Summary

From New York Times bestseller Tess Gerritsen and acclaimed thriller writer Gary Braver comes a sexy murder mystery about a reckless affair and dangerous secrets。

Taryn Moore is young, beautiful, and brilliant…so why would she kill herself? When Detective Frankie Loomis arrives on the scene to investigate the girl’s fatal plunge from her apartment balcony, she knows in her gut there’s more to the story, especially after the autopsy reveals that the college senior was pregnant。 It could be reason enough for suicide—or a motive for murder。

To English professor Jack Dorian, Taryn was the ultimate fantasy: intelligent, adoring, and completely off limits。 But there was also a dark side to Taryn, a dangerous streak that threatened those she turned her affections to—including Jack。 And now that she’s dead, his problems are just beginning。

After Frankie uncovers a trove of sordid secrets, it becomes clear that Jack may know the truth。 He is guilty of deception, but is he capable of cold-blooded murder?

She’s back…I have so missed Tess Gerritson - and have likely found a new treasured author in Gary— tightly written we follow a kind intelligent college professor—who in one weak moment alters the course of many lives。 And the secrets - all around- some revealed - some held forever。 Some excellent literary lessons entwined in the story are an added bonus。 Beautiful ending reflective of how it often is in “real life” Would love to see another collaboration between these accomplished authors。

I really enjoyed this book。 I only gave it 4 stars because I felt disappointed in most of the main characters at some point and I really wanted to “feel” for either Tarryn or Jack but just couldn’t。 I definitely didn’t see the end coming and it felt a tad rushed to me。 I would love to see more stories with Frankie and Mac and would definitely read more of this author。

A solid page-turner。

Tess Gerritsen has done it again。 This one kept me guessing until the end。

This was a disappointing read, I kept waiting for the thrill that is usually associated with a Tess Gerritsen story, but it never came。 I figured out rather quickly who the killer was。 Ridiculously early in the book。

A fast read but really annoying characters。 3 🌟🌟🌟 are about enough。 Ending was somewhat unexpected。

The book was well written。 And that's about all I can say that's good about it。 It's a slow-burn novel, and, with the exception of a secondary/tertiary character, "Charlie," I not only didn't care for any of the characters, I actively wanted a world-ending disaster to end them all。 Boring, unoriginal, weak-spirited, often mean-minded, they all sucked at some level, and some on all levels。 I struggled to finish the book and only did so to see if it was worth wading through the purgatory of exposi The book was well written。 And that's about all I can say that's good about it。 It's a slow-burn novel, and, with the exception of a secondary/tertiary character, "Charlie," I not only didn't care for any of the characters, I actively wanted a world-ending disaster to end them all。 Boring, unoriginal, weak-spirited, often mean-minded, they all sucked at some level, and some on all levels。 I struggled to finish the book and only did so to see if it was worth wading through the purgatory of exposition to find out who did what。 It wasn't worth it。 At all。"If you love life, don't waste time, because time is what life is made up of。" ~ Bruce LeeThis book owes me some time/life back。 。。。more

I am not a big thriller fan usually, so others might be far more enthusiastic fans of this co-written novel。 My interest in reading it was that one of the authors was a professor of mine in graduate school, so seeing how he envisioned a crime having to do with a student who falls into an entanglement with a professor definitely ignited my curiosity。 From interviews, I read that Tess Gerritsen wrote the sections of the female narrative--I am assuming the woman detective Frankie, and I liked Frank I am not a big thriller fan usually, so others might be far more enthusiastic fans of this co-written novel。 My interest in reading it was that one of the authors was a professor of mine in graduate school, so seeing how he envisioned a crime having to do with a student who falls into an entanglement with a professor definitely ignited my curiosity。 From interviews, I read that Tess Gerritsen wrote the sections of the female narrative--I am assuming the woman detective Frankie, and I liked Frankie's "voice" throughout as she both tried to solve the case of this student's apparent suicide while making connections to her own twin teenage daughters--coming to the conclusion how dangerous a world it can be and how limited a parent's protection can be as our children move further away from the "nest。" The sections written by Gary Braver (pseudonym for Northeastern English professor Gary Goshgarian) examine the point of view of the English professor, teaching a seminar on star-crossed lovers, which includes the young woman who appears to have ended her life at the start of the book。 I do think the literary references being woven into the narrative gave it added appeal and depth, differentiating it from other thriller-type novels。 But some of the tropes were a little too familiar--professor-student dalliances, desparate-for-love jilted woman bent on revenge, "bitch" calling between hostile female students。 。 。 so I was not super excited to stumble up on those。 Still, the story is neatly constructed between the different storytellers and the the two different time sequences--"before" and "after" the crime, which are alternated。 Social media posts indicate that the novel is being heavily promoted by Amazon and doing well in sales, which makes me happy to see for these author collaborators who took a chance in matchmaking their literary skills。 。。。more

Note to listener and reader do not for any reason make Tess Gerritsen mad at you she can always create a character that is like you and have the character either arrested or implicated in a crime or the victim。

Not satisfyingNone of the characters are likeable and the book leaves you feeling unsatisfied with the outcome。 A big letdown for a Gerritsen novel。

Quick read。 Never understood men who think with their you know what, or obsessive women。 But put this combo together and you got a story! Never expected the ending。 I liked the lead detective Frankie, and Charlie。

4。5 - This was a good, fast, easy read。 I only didn't give it 5 stars because I wouldn't read it again。 It's a very familiar story, although good, it wasn't anything special。 4。5 - This was a good, fast, easy read。 I only didn't give it 5 stars because I wouldn't read it again。 It's a very familiar story, although good, it wasn't anything special。 。。。more

Interesting I enjoyed this book very much, and honestly didn’t see the end coming。 The characters seemed to come to life, and I could see this book turned into a series to watch on Netflix。 A preemptive good read。

The story tells about how one's poor choices affects or ruins plenty of things that truly matters。 Regrets comes last and how far you can forgive people you love。 The story tells about how one's poor choices affects or ruins plenty of things that truly matters。 Regrets comes last and how far you can forgive people you love。 。。。more

Addictive reading, hard to put down。Really convincing with the character development and portrayal of a sick young woman。 Any man looking to having an affair with a young woman should read this and he might think twice!

Another well-constructed mystery by the incomparable Tess Gerritsen with Gary Braver。The beautiful Taryn plunges to her death from an apartment balcony。 At first, it is assumed that she committed suicide。 Detective Frankie Loomis feels otherwise and follows her gut instinct to unravel the mystery。 For any fan o Gerritsen, this is a must-read。 For anyone not familiar with Tess's work, hang on to your seat -- you're in for a whirl-wind ride that will make you lose sleep trying to finish reading th Another well-constructed mystery by the incomparable Tess Gerritsen with Gary Braver。The beautiful Taryn plunges to her death from an apartment balcony。 At first, it is assumed that she committed suicide。 Detective Frankie Loomis feels otherwise and follows her gut instinct to unravel the mystery。 For any fan o Gerritsen, this is a must-read。 For anyone not familiar with Tess's work, hang on to your seat -- you're in for a whirl-wind ride that will make you lose sleep trying to finish reading this excellent tale。 。。。more

While reading this book it became quite apparent it was written by two authors, as, at least in my opinion, many parts really felt like they didn’t gel。 I’ve read a number of Tess Gerritsen books in the past, but this I have to say is one of the poorest efforts。

Suspenseful throughout。 This book was a great story and an easy read。 The characters developed well through the twists and turns of the plot and the big mystery of the whodunit isn't revealed until the very end of the story in what came to me as a surprise。 I really liked that I didn't guess the outcome as I usually have with other suspense thrillers。 I really enjoyed it! I'm admitting it - I can't be bothered to finish this book。 It's written by two authors, Tess Gerritsen and a university professor and I think that's where it's lost me。 Firstly, is this a suicide or a murder? Fabulous blurb。 If the story was purely about this, I'd be giving the book 4 or 5 stars and would be finishing in record time。 The writing style is unusual re the different points of view and narratives and it was different to adjust to。 That being said, it isn't what has thrown me out aft I'm admitting it - I can't be bothered to finish this book。 It's written by two authors, Tess Gerritsen and a university professor and I think that's where it's lost me。 Firstly, is this a suicide or a murder? (Keep it simple stupid)。 The audio was also included and the narrator is excellent。 The book is well written within itself, but I have better stuff to read this afternoon。 I also admit that I just zipped to the last couple of chapters to find out what actually happened。 。。。more
