Summary

There's one thing Jay Collier knows for sure—he's a statistical anomaly as the only out gay kid in his small rural Washington town。 While all this friends can't stop talking about their heterosexual hookups and relationships, Jay can only dream of his own firsts, compiling a romance to-do list of all the things he hopes to one day experience—his Gay Agenda。

Then, against all odds, Jay's family moves to Seattle and he starts his senior year at a new high school with a thriving LGBTQIA+ community。 For the first time ever, Jay feels like he's found where he truly belongs, where he can flirt with Very Sexy Boys and search for love。 But as Jay begins crossing items off his list, he'll soon be torn between his heart and his hormones, his old friends and his new ones。。。because after all, life and love don't always go according to plan。

From debut novelist Jason June comes a moving and hilarious sex-positive story about the complexities of first loves, first hookups, and first heartbreaks—and how to stay true to yourself while embracing what you never saw coming。

I really loved this, for me what got me despite it being very obsessive is I can relate a little to the emotions。 However by saying that I am suggesting that some teen queer boys act like some teen girls。 still very enjoyable

I had this book spoiled for me。。。 and I'm not even mad about it。 I really was enjoying the first part of the book, I thought it was fun and I thoroughly loved all the characters。 But then I heard of a little cheating moment in this book, and nope。 I'm done; I'm out。 I had this book spoiled for me。。。 and I'm not even mad about it。 I really was enjoying the first part of the book, I thought it was fun and I thoroughly loved all the characters。 But then I heard of a little cheating moment in this book, and nope。 I'm done; I'm out。 。。。more

Another one of those cute meaningful books about what I wish I had and what I hope plenty of young queer kids are getting today。 Everyone needs a gay agenda。

This was disappointing。 The cover is beautiful and I liked the idea for the story。 I just found the main character extremely unlikable (someone needs to teach him good communication skills) and the writing wasn't my favorite。 This was disappointing。 The cover is beautiful and I liked the idea for the story。 I just found the main character extremely unlikable (someone needs to teach him good communication skills) and the writing wasn't my favorite。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Finished this book last night。 Unfortunately, I found it quite problematic, and I was overall very disappointed…。 After reading some Goodreads reviews, I realized that I wasn’t the only one who had these thoughts。First of all, yeah I get where Jay is coming from, but making your whole existence about getting d*cked isn’t exactly healthy。 He is s*x crazed。 At first I was really impressed by how s*x positive this book was, since it’s being marketed as a YA novel。 Loved how realistic it was。 But af Finished this book last night。 Unfortunately, I found it quite problematic, and I was overall very disappointed…。 After reading some Goodreads reviews, I realized that I wasn’t the only one who had these thoughts。First of all, yeah I get where Jay is coming from, but making your whole existence about getting d*cked isn’t exactly healthy。 He is s*x crazed。 At first I was really impressed by how s*x positive this book was, since it’s being marketed as a YA novel。 Loved how realistic it was。 But after a while, it felt wrong。 Jay exists only for s*x。 Literally。This, in my opinion, is a very sad portrayal of the LGBTQ community。 Obviously, not everyone’s the same, but still。 It did make me slightly uncomfortable, how everything was about having s*x and stuff。 I’m not even kidding, remove the sexual aspect(s) from this book, and you’re left with nothing。 Additionally, I found everyone in this book extremely toxic and problematic。 Max is one of the worst people I’ve had the displeasure of reading about。 He’s literally so toxic and he’s always playing the victim in all situations。 Somebody needed to put some sense into that kid。 He painted Reese in such a negative light, victim-playing yet again, when in reality he was the overly dramatic one? I’m sorry but no。 That ain’t it sis。Tony, I won’t even comment on。 Dylan, Tony’s boyfriend, is just as bad。Jay is just a big fat mess。 He literally played poor Albert。 I don’t really consider his actions as cheating because nowhere was it mentioned that they were officially a “thing”, but when someone literally has the “wait for me” talk with you, and you agree to it, and at that same moment you literally go to the neighborhood’s f*ckboy to get laid, then YES, there is a problem with you。 Especially when Albert asked him about it, and Jay realized that what he was doing was probably wrong and would hurt Albert, yeah that was the first red flag 🚩。 Jay realized what he was doing was wrong, but kept doing it, because why not have fun and get “the best out of both worlds”, despite hurting people in the process, right? And yes, this is a YA novel and everyone has their happy ending。 Quite unfortunate tbh, since I think the best solution would have been for all of them to leave each other alone and move on with their lives。 Anw, I found everyone in this book way too toxic。 Overall quite a problematic and disappointing read。 There are some great LGBTQ+ books out there, that no, I wouldn’t really recommend this one。P。S: I understand that we’re talking about a bunch of 18 year olds f*cking around, but no。 At 18 you should know that ditching your best friend who needs the cash prize of a contest you’re supposed to be entering together in order to get out of homelessness is THE WRONG THING TO DO, especially when you’re ditching her just to get some d*ck on the dance floor of a high school dance。 There are countries where it’s mandatory for 18 year olds to serve in the military, so no, at 18 you know exactly what you’re doing and who you’re hurting。 。。。more

4。5 starsThanks to the many lists of books to read during pride month in June, whether or not they were already out or if they were about to release, I picked up plenty of new books this summer and, among other LGBTQ+ literature, Jay’s Gay Agenda was one that I really wanted to read and it definitely didn’t disappoint…even if I found Jay to be such a dick at times。 No pun intended, I suppose。Jay is finally moving to a new city where he can meet other gay men like him, something he didn’t have in 4。5 starsThanks to the many lists of books to read during pride month in June, whether or not they were already out or if they were about to release, I picked up plenty of new books this summer and, among other LGBTQ+ literature, Jay’s Gay Agenda was one that I really wanted to read and it definitely didn’t disappoint…even if I found Jay to be such a dick at times。 No pun intended, I suppose。Jay is finally moving to a new city where he can meet other gay men like him, something he didn’t have in his previous small town。 Because of this, he has created a list of things he wants to happen now that he can potentially find a boyfriend。 He calls it the Gay Agenda and while it may help him find love, it may also cause him trouble he is unprepared for。I’ll go ahead and get this out of the way: most of the time, I did not care for Jay。 I don’t know if I’m the only one to think this, but his attitude towards accomplishing his gay agenda was so rotten。 I don’t want to spoil too much, but he clearly doesn’t know how to get his priorities together。 It seemed as if he wanted to get everything under the sun accomplished on his list: having sex for the first time, having his first kiss, getting a boyfriend, hold hands。 That’s a lot of firsts that really don’t need to happen as fast as he wants them to and that clouds his mind a lot。 There are the moments where he chills out and just lives in the moment, but it doesn’t happen often。 His character is only better nearing the end when his epiphany for not being an ass finally comes around。 But…yeah。Oh, Albert。 Cute, gay, nerdy and totally deserves the world。 You instantly fall for him in the beginning when he is introduced on Jay’s first day。 He never apologizes for being himself, unless he accidentally makes penis/sex jokes (you’ll get it when you read the book), he embraces his nerdiness and literally has the best confidence I’ve seen in a character in a while。 He was such a refreshing read while trying to get through Jay’s…personality。 I’m going to say this too: Albert deserves better。 I’ll leave it at that。I want to mention Tony, a side-ish character。 Total fuckboy and then when some…things…are revealed, it makes him an even bigger fuckboy。 He made me want to gag。Minus the things I had an issue with when it came to Jay or Tony or a few other background characters, my favorite had to be the storyline itself。 I don’t agree with some things Jay did, of course, but there was perfect tension that I love to see in romance stories, that make me wonder if and how things will be resolved。 The romance was very cute, too。 I also loved Jay’s dad and how relaxed he was with Jay whenever there were questions or advice needed。 I wish his mom was present more, though。 I feel like she could have been in a few more scenes。Overall, I do think this book lived up to my expectations。 I see on Goodreads that there may be a continuation of Jay’s story, so I’m definitely curious to see what else can happen。 Maybe Jay’s attitude is better? Okay, I’ll stop。 。。。more

List lover Jay Collier creates a "gay agenda" to achieve when he moves from his rural hometown to Seattle and, while he's eager to (finally) make friends with other gay and queer people, rushing to complete his agenda causes more than a few messes and heartaches。 I am guilty as charged for judging books by their covers and this one has an adorable one! This was a fun read that beautifully mixed of comedic yet cringe-worthy mishaps and heartfelt moments。 One of my favorite scenes is the apologies which are complete with: honesty about oneself, attempts to grow and be better, acceptance of mistakes and acknowledgment that it is okay to make them, motorized robot chairs, extravagant costumes accompanied by endless puns, and a few tears and make-up kisses! I don't want to give anything else away but just know it was very sweet and satisfying in terms of character development。 。。。more

Dnf at 26%。 I don’t know what I was expecting from this book, but it was too teeny and cringy for me。 I know I’m not the target audience for the book (I’m 30 years old), but I have not felt as silly reading books like “Darius the Great Is Not Okay” or “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe”。

I enjoyed this book for the most part。 I will say I read this via audiobook, and the repetition of Jay's list at the beginning of most chapters was。。。very annoying。 I feel like if I had read this physically my eyes would have just breezed over those parts。There was a lot to love about this。 Many parts were very funny and super relatable。 Others。。。I was super annoyed with Jay for a big portion。 Seems like he intentionally does things he knows will hurt others and then kind of tries to get out of I enjoyed this book for the most part。 I will say I read this via audiobook, and the repetition of Jay's list at the beginning of most chapters was。。。very annoying。 I feel like if I had read this physically my eyes would have just breezed over those parts。There was a lot to love about this。 Many parts were very funny and super relatable。 Others。。。I was super annoyed with Jay for a big portion。 Seems like he intentionally does things he knows will hurt others and then kind of tries to get out of them and make excuses。 I didn't love that。 I did like some of the other characters though, and the ending was nice!Content WarningsGraphic: Infidelity and Sexual contentMinor: Homophobia and Racism 。。。more

This was a cute, enjoyable book with interesting characters。 I don't really have much to say about it other than that。 I wanted cute and fluffy and for the most part that's what I got。 I think Max was the best part about this book, and would not mind reading a book about him and Reese。There were a few things I didn't like:- Jay is a dumbass。 Sorry, but if you are DATING someone, you have "defined your relationship"。 There should be no ambiguity about whether or not you are exclusive。 There is a This was a cute, enjoyable book with interesting characters。 I don't really have much to say about it other than that。 I wanted cute and fluffy and for the most part that's what I got。 I think Max was the best part about this book, and would not mind reading a book about him and Reese。There were a few things I didn't like:- Jay is a dumbass。 Sorry, but if you are DATING someone, you have "defined your relationship"。 There should be no ambiguity about whether or not you are exclusive。 There is a difference between dating someone and hooking up。 - The constant lists got to be a bit grating。 It was okay once or twice, but putting them in EVERY chapter, sometimes multiple times per chapter, was overkill。Overall, 4 stars! A list called ‘Jay’s Gay Agenda’ details all his goals for being an out and proud gay person … goals that are impossible to achieve in his tiny town。 When his mother gets a promotion in her job, though, and his family moves from a literal log cabin to an apartment in the middle of Seattle’s ‘gay district’ … well, let the fun begin! What follows is a hilarious and heartbreaking story, where Jay meets new friends, gets volunteered to help run the homecoming committee, attempts to navigate his best friends disastrous life while being hundreds of miles away, and, of course, meets a lot of VSBs (Very Sexy Boys)。 Kisses are exchanged, (lots of) mistakes are made, arguments are had, digital creatures are caught, and dinosaurs are defeated - and Jay learns about who he is in and what he wants in life。 This story was a delight from start to finish - as a native Seattleite, the fact that the author knew the city was extremely important - and he did a great job describing it! I could practically picture all the places Jay had his shenanigans, even if they were made up。 This was a quick, fun, important read, and I am looking forward to checking out Jason June’s other works。 I received a copy of this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Curiously irritating, probably due to not being target audience although not sure who that is。 Too knowing and overly outrageous plot lines and characterisations。 Not to be totally negative, the story holds up within its parameters, just not my thing。

I'm going to mark this as read even though I skipped pages at the end because I think I got the gist。This was really cute and fun。 I think the writing style was really accessible。 I've talked about why I think sex positive stories are important to have in YA and I don't see many queer ones where the main character is explicit about wanting to have sex, so I really liked that。 I also loved the idea of a Gay Guide and wanting to do a bunch of "gay things" because I could totally relate。I can't tel I'm going to mark this as read even though I skipped pages at the end because I think I got the gist。This was really cute and fun。 I think the writing style was really accessible。 I've talked about why I think sex positive stories are important to have in YA and I don't see many queer ones where the main character is explicit about wanting to have sex, so I really liked that。 I also loved the idea of a Gay Guide and wanting to do a bunch of "gay things" because I could totally relate。I can't tell if it's because I'm in a reading slump or if it's actually this book, but I do feel like it dragged and did not need to be so long at all; I'd probably cut a hundred pages。 I don't think there's enough plot to necessitate it being as long as it was。 The author would write scenes where we learn one piece of information but it took two or three pages to get it, which feels so long。 I also sometimes felt like the voice was younger than the subject matter。 A big part of the story was Jay wanting to have sex and he's eighteen, so it's a bit more mature, but he often talked like he was around fourteen or so。 He kept saying "frack" instead of "fuck" and it got on my nerves, even though it's such a small thing。 He and his friends had like catch phrases like "Lord and Taylor" that I found cute at the beginning and then annoying。But I feel really bad leaving this review because I've been in a mood the last month, so all of this could be impacting it。 I would definitely recommend people read this。 (These reviews are pretty much all for me because I can never remember things, so I need the notes!) 。。。more
