Summary

Here is THE book recounting the life and times of one of the most respected men in the world, Warren Buffett。 The legendary Omaha investor has never written a memoir, but now he has allowed one writer, Alice Schroeder, unprecedented access to explore directly with him and with those closest to him his work, opinions, struggles, triumphs, follies, and wisdom。 The result is the personally revealing and complete biography of the man known everywhere as “The Oracle of Omaha。”

Although the media track him constantly, Buffett himself has never told his full life story。 His reality is private, especially by celebrity standards。 Indeed, while the homespun persona that the public sees is true as far as it goes, it goes only so far。 Warren Buffett is an array of paradoxes。 He set out to prove that nice guys can finish first。 Over the years he treated his investors as partners, acted as their steward, and championed honesty as an investor, CEO, board member, essayist, and speaker。 At the same time he became the world’s richest man, all from the modest Omaha headquarters of his company Berkshire Hathaway。 None of this fits the term “simple。”

When Alice Schroeder met Warren Buffett she was an insurance industry analyst and a gifted writer known for her keen perception and business acumen。 Her writings on finance impressed him, and as she came to know him she realized that while much had been written on the subject of his investing style, no one had moved beyond that to explore his larger philosophy, which is bound up in a complex personality and the details of his life。 Out of this came his decision to cooperate with her on the book about himself that he would never write。

Never before has Buffett spent countless hours responding to a writer’s questions, talking, giving complete access to his wife, children, friends, and business associates—opening his files, recalling his childhood。 It was an act of courage, as The Snowball makes immensely clear。 Being human, his own life, like most lives, has been a mix of strengths and frailties。 Yet notable though his wealth may be, Buffett’s legacy will not be his ranking on the scorecard of wealth; it will be his principles and ideas that have enriched people’s lives。 This book tells you why Warren Buffett is the most fascinating American success story of our time。

The Book is „ok“。 It is interesting about the person and his life。 It is very very very detailed about his life。 When he did what。 Unfortunately, not much of great learnings, advices, summaries etc。 however, Interesting。 Seems to be a funny dude。

There is no other better way to learn about “Warren Buffett”。 It gave me insight into Buffett’s life that I wouldn’t have got just by listening his views through different other channels like Shareholder’s meetings, interviews or his letters。 Great work by the author!

Warren Buffet is the end all be all, when it comes to the world of value investing。 This book is just a testament to how he has stayed true to his thoughts and built his empire Berkshire Hathway。 It also gives the reader an insight into all the sacrifices that him & his family have had to make to see that dream become a reality。 Engaging and inspiring read, would highly recommend。

This is a really good book。 Starting right from Warren's childhood to him becoming the richest person alive in 2008,this book covers the entirety of Buffet's experience。 How various events shaped his life, and what made him the person he is now has been portrayed in a really good way in this book。 The only con of this book is that it's a bit long, and after sometime the book becomes monotonous, mostly because of its length。 Definitely an exciting read! The most comprehensive biography you can find out there about the life of Warren Buffett。 It tackles his life from childhood till the late 2000s。 The book is gripping from the beginning。 One of my favorite bits in the book is the bathtub memory method。 This technique was mentioned multiple times in the book and explains a lot about Buffet’s personality and his disposition towards his personal life and his career。“He never dwelled on the unpleasant。 He would later come to think of his memory as f The most comprehensive biography you can find out there about the life of Warren Buffett。 It tackles his life from childhood till the late 2000s。 The book is gripping from the beginning。 One of my favorite bits in the book is the bathtub memory method。 This technique was mentioned multiple times in the book and explains a lot about Buffet’s personality and his disposition towards his personal life and his career。“He never dwelled on the unpleasant。 He would later come to think of his memory as functioning like a bathtub。 The tub filled with ideas and experiences and matters that interested him。 When he had no more use for information, whoosh—the plug popped up, and the memory drained away。 If new information about a subject appeared, it would replace the old version。 If he didn’t want to think about something at all, down the drain it went。 Certain events, facts, memories, and even people appeared to vanish。 Painful memories were the first to be flushed。 The bathtub memory’s efficiency freed up enormous amounts of space for the new and the productive。 Buffett thought of the bathtub memory as a helper that allowed him to “look forward,” rather than “looking backward” all the time like his mother。 And it allowed him, at the age of twenty-six, to ruminate in depth on business to the exclusion of almost everything else—in pursuit of his goal of becoming a millionaire。”I also enjoyed the analysis of his relationship with his parents。 It’s very interesting。 The only shortcoming of the book was its length。 The book was too long and could have been shorter, if the unnecessary parts were eliminated。 。。。more

This book is poorly written。 The writing style makes it very difficult to read through 800 something pages… Someone might disagree but for anyone who is as significant as Warren Buffett there must be so many things to say。 From this book, however, you see a straight-forward description on each event, sometimes mixed with some other people’s feelings who barely has anything to do with the event。 Very confusing。 Yet anyone who reads it can still be inspired because it’s Buffett’s life story。 Not s This book is poorly written。 The writing style makes it very difficult to read through 800 something pages… Someone might disagree but for anyone who is as significant as Warren Buffett there must be so many things to say。 From this book, however, you see a straight-forward description on each event, sometimes mixed with some other people’s feelings who barely has anything to do with the event。 Very confusing。 Yet anyone who reads it can still be inspired because it’s Buffett’s life story。 Not sure whether googling “Warren Buffett” will do the better work。 。。。more

Pretty solid propaganda about one of the most successful businessmen in American history。 One can't help but be impressed by his drive, his vision, and his intellect。 I call it propaganda because the book was written with Buffett's full cooperation (and oversight it seems), but Schroeder does occasionally offer some criticism of Buffett。 Usually, however, any criticism is quickly dismissed as trivial。I don't think I would recommend this because of its length。 Only if you were very interested in Pretty solid propaganda about one of the most successful businessmen in American history。 One can't help but be impressed by his drive, his vision, and his intellect。 I call it propaganda because the book was written with Buffett's full cooperation (and oversight it seems), but Schroeder does occasionally offer some criticism of Buffett。 Usually, however, any criticism is quickly dismissed as trivial。I don't think I would recommend this because of its length。 Only if you were very interested in stocks/the man himself。 Most people would probably get bored by this much depth。 I must admit I found several sections to be tedious。 I would not have been able to plow through The Snowball if I didn't have it on audiobook。 。。。more

That’s just how the world runs。 。。。more

Please, be aware that this is a biography, not a financial advice book。 You will see here a lot of wisdom, but for the most part, this is only about the personal life of Warren Buffett。This book has one major flaw, although the author doesn't have any fault: it was written so early。 Warren is still an active person as of 2021 and these last 13 years have a lot of things to talk about。 I felt the same about the Elon Musk book, which was written in 2017。 Please, be aware that this is a biography, not a financial advice book。 You will see here a lot of wisdom, but for the most part, this is only about the personal life of Warren Buffett。This book has one major flaw, although the author doesn't have any fault: it was written so early。 Warren is still an active person as of 2021 and these last 13 years have a lot of things to talk about。 I felt the same about the Elon Musk book, which was written in 2017。 。。。more

Has to be my favorite line from this book, and honestly the trap of investment is to do too much and nothing at the same time。 Simply determine your circle of competence and wait for opportunity to come around, buy rarely when the prices are good。 Diversification to preserve capital, concentration to grow it。 Recommended reading to all trying to make sense of markets, people, and business。 。。。more
