This was so good。 RTC

As a YA novel this is an easy read and fun, so fairy typical。 I enjoyed the the characters and cleverness but this book wasn’t overly enthralling or yearning me to read more。 It does have a great message though。

This book was so good, and I would rate it 5 stars but upon finding out about the problematic “inspiration” for this book, I am giving it no rating。

My first book by author TJ Klune, but I will read more。This is not just a book about magical creatures, or a only a novel that explores prejudices, misguided social workers, or the healing power of love, but it beautifully combines many ideas into a totally unique story that fills the reader with hope。For anyone who has worked with or known children with exceptional abilities, the beauty of the characters in this dear novel will fill your heart。

This was not what I expected。 Too childish。

This book was so beautiful and sweet。 I loved all the characters so much, especially Lucy who will always have my heart。 The ending was perfect。

Absolutely adored this novel。 Will now be listening to Buddy Holly and pretending I’m on an island in the cerulean sea。 :)

All the stars in the sky for this story but mostly, for its author。 I feel a connection with this man’s mind that completes me。 I think this is my book number five, six? by TJ Klune and I have only the best things to share。The stories are imaginative; the humour, the wittiness, the solving of problems and the writing makes me absolutely happy。 I only hope no blank pages in his future, only more and more ideas to be set on paper, because selfishly I want to keep reading what he has to tell me。An All the stars in the sky for this story but mostly, for its author。 I feel a connection with this man’s mind that completes me。 I think this is my book number five, six? by TJ Klune and I have only the best things to share。The stories are imaginative; the humour, the wittiness, the solving of problems and the writing makes me absolutely happy。 I only hope no blank pages in his future, only more and more ideas to be set on paper, because selfishly I want to keep reading what he has to tell me。And from Marsyas House, I have a soft spot for Talia, the “lady-dude”, the bearded little girl, the gnome, the fiercest friend and daughter。 Gotta love her! And just a friendly reminder: love is love is love is love。 Get to know the other, because why not? 。。。more

Unfortunately, I’m going to DNF this at 40%。 I’m bored

This was really a 4。5 for me。 It took me a really long time to get into it at first。 There are so many heartwarming topics in this story, but to me, the best parts are the hilarious one liners and things the kids/teens say。 :-) It wouldn’t have been nearly as good had I read it and not listened to the audiobook。 The narrator was excellent。

Linus Baker is a quiet, unassuming government social worker, a social worker working with magical children。 He's good at his job。 In fact, he has never ever in 17 years gotten a demerit。 When Extremely Upper Management gives him his new assignment Linus is NOT sure what to think。 He's being sent out of the city to an island with some extreme cases of six magical children and their caretaker。Such a cute, cute book。 I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 Linus is an average everyday hard-working。 But he Linus Baker is a quiet, unassuming government social worker, a social worker working with magical children。 He's good at his job。 In fact, he has never ever in 17 years gotten a demerit。 When Extremely Upper Management gives him his new assignment Linus is NOT sure what to think。 He's being sent out of the city to an island with some extreme cases of six magical children and their caretaker。Such a cute, cute book。 I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 Linus is an average everyday hard-working。 But he is a protagonist that shows the start of getting rid of fear and misunderstanding is reaching out, getting to know, and popping our bubbles。And honestly, Lucy stole the show (something he'd be quite proud of)。 I lived for Lucy's dialogues! (view spoiler)[I might have spiders in my brain too。 Because I totally relate to a six-year-old child who wants to take over the world。 (hide spoiler)] But the dialogue for all the characters was natural and sweet and the prose thoughtful。 The characters are well fleshed out。 And a wonderful story about children growing, living, and thriving in a loving environment。 I love books that are able to show that。 。。。more

Beautifully written, I fell in love with the characters so much and was bawling by the end。

This book seriously gave me the chills in a good way。 This book teaches you how to look outside the box and also not judge people by what they look like on the outside。 I’m not going to give any spoilers away or the main point of the book but if you love fiction, love, and togetherness within the family I highly recommend this magical read for you

I absolutely hated this book。 The themes were good。 But the pacing of the story, syntax, and story length drove me absolutely bonkers。 Also, we all know the difference between right and wrong, and it took the protagonist until the very last chapter of the book to figure things out for himself。 I can’t stand a stupid main character。Also, I listened to the audiobook and I didn’t appreciate that the only black character was assigned a voice that hinted at him being dull and unintelligent。 I’m extre I absolutely hated this book。 The themes were good。 But the pacing of the story, syntax, and story length drove me absolutely bonkers。 Also, we all know the difference between right and wrong, and it took the protagonist until the very last chapter of the book to figure things out for himself。 I can’t stand a stupid main character。Also, I listened to the audiobook and I didn’t appreciate that the only black character was assigned a voice that hinted at him being dull and unintelligent。 I’m extremely disappointed as I was super excited to read this。 。。。more

This was my first fantasy type book。 It was cute。 Vivid in imagination。 I connected well with all of the characters。 The growth of the main character, Linus, kept me interested and wanting more。 One of the biggest turn offs for me is long chapters。 This book has some very long chapters。 Some are 18 pages。 Overall I recommend this book。 The storyline, ending and everything in between was well written and structured!!

Therese Thompson

Pernumbra, Peregrine, Parnassus。 So, every quirky, wise, and magical mentor seem to be cornering the multiple syllable P names。 A fun fantasy with heart。 Being normal has never seemed so bland!

Brenda

I think this book is about family。 Being accepted and being loved。 Highly recommended。

Jennifer Perry

This book was incredible! I literally could not put it down。 The way the author writes just keeps you captivated! I won’t give any spoilers but this book is about a social worker who works with magical children and goes on a journey for work but finds out what it really means to live and what a family can do for you!

Charming with a great message。 A bit preachy, but I am going to encourage my 11 year-olds to read it。

I almost dropped this at chapter 10 because it was so draggy and long but I’m glad I pushed through because this book is so wonderful and beautifully written。 I fell in love with every character and I was not disappointed in the hype around this book so so good

The whole thing was a lot zanier than I anticipated, and I think it's just not a book for me。 A few of the characters really bothered my HSP self。 One of the "children" particular kept saying things that made my blood curdle, which was the point, but I'm not in it (it being reading for pleasure) for that sort of experience。 The whole thing was a lot zanier than I anticipated, and I think it's just not a book for me。 A few of the characters really bothered my HSP self。 One of the "children" particular kept saying things that made my blood curdle, which was the point, but I'm not in it (it being reading for pleasure) for that sort of experience。 。。。more

This book is such a happy book。 Especially during covid times, it feels like a much-needed escape。 It’s a story that celebrates individualism and what it means to be different。 The concept is pretty simple but the characters are what makes this book better。 Lucy especially is such an interesting character and his development through the book and the relationship with the others is noticeable。 It feels like pure happiness - this book was the perfect escapism I wanted。

Di una dolcezza unica, questo libro fa bene al cuore e all’anima

Such a sweet book! Great writing, many underlying messages, and a reminder that change starts with a few voices and a message。
