The story at this point, although containing those poignant moments which make it easy to see why it has been relegated to the status of a classic, nonetheless starts to feel like a one-trick pony。 There’s A LOT that’s visually dazzling, compelling, and of course, that signature Inio Asano mix of endearing and disturbing。 Yet, the story here starts to feel a bit taxing, just a constant, angry indictment on humanity, which seems to lack anything particularly new to say except constant, garrulous The story at this point, although containing those poignant moments which make it easy to see why it has been relegated to the status of a classic, nonetheless starts to feel like a one-trick pony。 There’s A LOT that’s visually dazzling, compelling, and of course, that signature Inio Asano mix of endearing and disturbing。 Yet, the story here starts to feel a bit taxing, just a constant, angry indictment on humanity, which seems to lack anything particularly new to say except constant, garrulous wails (however entertaining and gripping they might be)。Yet, I will keep reading, because there’s something strangely intriguing and gripping about the entire thing, and because it promises to hit unprecedented highs (or in this case, lows) in its future installments。 To me, it is morbid curiosity, above all else, really, that this story devotes itself to keep stimulating。 。。。more

Gosh things only get worse don’t they? There’s so much about this that’s disturbing and horrible but there’s something to be said about how thought provoking it all is- the discussions about human nature and loneliness and love- and the complexity of being alive。 Beautiful art, as always。 It made me feel awful but maybe that means it’s doing a good job。

Each of the Punpun books ends with a two-year timeskip, and this one is the most heartbreaking so far。 Just。。。 so sad。Punpun's high school years are covered here, and it's a wonderfully painful blend of Punpun being a totally self-absorbed, narcissistic highschooler, and also agonizingly relatable at the same time。 High school is a very self-absorbed time! But after spending an evening inside his head during a disastrous date, you can't help but agree with his date's harsh assessment of him。 I s Each of the Punpun books ends with a two-year timeskip, and this one is the most heartbreaking so far。 Just。。。 so sad。Punpun's high school years are covered here, and it's a wonderfully painful blend of Punpun being a totally self-absorbed, narcissistic highschooler, and also agonizingly relatable at the same time。 High school is a very self-absorbed time! I had to struggle with depression and anxiety throughout my life 。。 I still am。 But this manga 。。 I don't seem to grasp it。 Especially this volume I didn't like it as much as the first two omnibuses。 Will keep on reading it though。 I had to struggle with depression and anxiety throughout my life 。。 I still am。 But this manga 。。 I don't seem to grasp it。 Especially this volume I didn't like it as much as the first two omnibuses。 Will keep on reading it though。 。。。more

If I wasn’t obsessed with this book I am now, the backstories of characters are so real and common it makes you want to sympathize with them。

100%。 A quirky, quick, but heavy read。 Delving more into Mr。 Onodera’s battle with his past, present, and redemption。 Will leave you wondering how 3 volumes of a comic can force you to reflect on yourself。 Likely my favorite piece of media。

A coming of age story about a depressed and lonely boy from a family of equally depressed and lonely people is something more pessimistic than my usual reads but I’ve stuck with it as it was recommended to me by a friend。I’m on my first read-through of the whole series and this was the volume that made me stop to write out my feelings。 I loved the first volume in its exploration of childish innocence in a flawed and harsh world and the plowed through the second volume that somehow subtly slams u A coming of age story about a depressed and lonely boy from a family of equally depressed and lonely people is something more pessimistic than my usual reads but I’ve stuck with it as it was recommended to me by a friend。I’m on my first read-through of the whole series and this was the volume that made me stop to write out my feelings。 I loved the first volume in its exploration of childish innocence in a flawed and harsh world and the plowed through the second volume that somehow subtly slams us back down to earth, but this volume, so far, hit me the most。It was in the way the story and the art work together so well to make the readers experience the depths of the characters’ loneliness and isolation。 In the way it humanised people who have done bad things as flawed individuals without excusing their actions as abusers and/or cowards。 It was also in the exploration of grief or lack thereof that you might feel at the loss of someone who you were supposed to love。I’ve read another review say that the art is terribly beautiful and I can’t help but feel like that describes the story pretty well too。 I’m still rooting for Punpun who’s (currently) a moody teenager and constantly messing up。 He’s still figuring things out and that’s something I think we can all sympathise with at any age。 Oyasumi Punpun, we still have a long way to go。 。。。more

High school Onodera! We have come so far with our kid Punpun! Punpun is now in high school and experiencing the overwhelming malaise of being a teenager and reflecting and reacting to his childhood trauma。 Aiko and his old friends are just thoughts passing by as he tries and fails to make Kanie his girlfriend。 In the meantime Mrs Onodera is dealing with a crisis of her own sorts。 Without getting into any spoilers, a lot of this book allows us to look into her psychological makeup and begin to un High school Onodera!
