Summary

Left rattled by the events of Dark Knights: Metal, Bruce Wayne must come face to face with the ultimate evil spawned from the Dark Multiverse。 One part Batman one part Joker。 The Batman Who Laughs。

"A Batman who laughs is a Batman who always wins。"

The mastermind behind Dark Nights: Metal, Scott Snyder, gives you a look inside the most terrifying version of Batman ever! He and superstar artist Jock (Batman: The Black Mirror) kick off a chain of events that makes Dark Nights: Metal seem like child's play。

The Batman Who Laughs not only survived his fight with The Joker at the end of Dark Nights: Metal, but is now enacting a sinister plan across the Multiverse--something both terrifying and oddly familiar。 When Bruce Wayne realizes the only way to stop this madman is to kill him, he must consider violating the very rule Batman can't ever break 。。。 the rule that created this insatiable villain--the Batman Who Laughs!

As Bruce begins to deduce that his current life is somehow wrong and that all the mistakes he's made are somehow connected, the Batman Who Laughs unleashes a brand-new evil。 Enter one of the most punishing Batmen of the Dark Multiverse: the Grim Knight!

Collects The Batman Who Laughs #1-7 and The Batman Who Laughs: The Grim Knight #1。

Better than I thought it would be。The Batman Who Laughs takes place after Dark Nights: Metal, and is about The Batman Who Laughs returning to terrorise our batman。 There are a lot of really great moments in the book, and the story comes together pretty well, but not perfectly。 It's also pretty wordy in parts, but the AMAZING art makes up for it。 I think this is the best I've seen of Jock's artwork anywhere。 I also liked the inclusion of Jim Gordon as a main character and liked the inclusion of h Better than I thought it would be。The Batman Who Laughs takes place after Dark Nights: Metal, and is about The Batman Who Laughs returning to terrorise our batman。 There are a lot of really great moments in the book, and the story comes together pretty well, but not perfectly。 It's also pretty wordy in parts, but the AMAZING art makes up for it。 I think this is the best I've seen of Jock's artwork anywhere。 I also liked the inclusion of Jim Gordon as a main character and liked the inclusion of his son, James Gordon jr。 Sometimes I wished that The psychology of the Batman Who Laughs was explained more, but you are just left to imagine, but i also complained about that in my Metal review, so I won't comment too much about it。The second issue is pretty boring but then after the third issue and the surprisingly great grim night issue it really starts to pick up。 The resolution is barely satisfactory but overall I'm glad I got the book and would recommend it to anyone who is familiar with Dark Nights Metal and Scott Snyder's work。 。。。more

I'm kind of mixed on this, I was big on Snyder but he lost after Year Zero/ Batman Eternal。 This story taken as is, is well-written, with a lot of high stakes and the reintroduction of James Gordon from Batman: The Black Mirror works。 And Jock kills it on the art side, being a much better storyteller than Capullo。However, I don't care for the Batman who Laughs as a character。 He is an alternate universe Bruce Wayne, who has been exposed to the Joker serum。 But there's little about him that is Br I'm kind of mixed on this, I was big on Snyder but he lost after Year Zero/ Batman Eternal。 This story taken as is, is well-written, with a lot of high stakes and the reintroduction of James Gordon from Batman: The Black Mirror works。 And Jock kills it on the art side, being a much better storyteller than Capullo。However, I don't care for the Batman who Laughs as a character。 He is an alternate universe Bruce Wayne, who has been exposed to the Joker serum。 But there's little about him that is Bruce Wayne, his character is more or less the Joker。 He says this Bruce is the worst Batman in the multiverse but he keeps losing to him。 I really feel like we needed an issue of internal dialogue of the Batman Who Laughs to better understand his multiverse plans and how he feels having been thwarted by this terrible version of Bruce and why he feels the need to keep toying with him。 So even though this is titled as the Batman Who Laughs, he is the secondary character, with the main character being the Bruce we know and love, in a battle with him。The other thing - Snyder takes this character and story way, way too seriously。 At least with Metal, he kind of leans into the absurdity of multiple multiverse Batmans and the DCU concept but here, the story is so grim and serious, you kind of feel like can he tone it down a notch。So look it's a well-written story but it's not really the Batman I want to read。 You'd hope that Bruce seeing the 2 terrible multiverse Batmans in this story will hopefully change his grim and dark persona, especially with what he personally has to go through - it's the only logical story choice by the end of it but this being comics, we know there's no change, rendering the story as whole pretty pointless。 。。。more

And the Court of Owls, there's a Batman who is their leader, and Penguin actually won!In all sincerity, it always baffles me how difficult it is for these writers to make a coherent story with these cool ideas。 In some sense, I almost feel like they try too much。 They start throwing around ideas like supermetal that sees the real in you (I've no idea what was it's real name) and try to explain the worlds and then there's all these "TWISTS" and what was once a grin-inducingly good idea, Batman has to face a dark version of himself!, turns into this wet fart that doesn't even make sense。 And then there's the goddamned Philosophical Opening About Happiness and What Gotham Stands For, and then back to killing。I've read recently read Batman vs。 Aliens and Batman vs。 Judge Dredd / Judge Death and they both went off the rails on the first pages, made no attempts to give any context and they were both mindless fun, just as I hoped。 The last two stories I've read here try all too much and fail miserably。 I feel miserable。 I am the Grim Reader。 。。。more

I’m a fan of Batman, but I’m so far behind on the various storylines and such in the comics。 So take everything in this review with a grain of salt。 I haven’t read the previous series, so I came into this one treating it as a stand alone。 And for what it’s worth, I LOVED it!The story is a lot of fun and takes so many turns that I was not expecting。 It leans into the terrifying and the ridiculous, and there are jaw-dropping moments aplenty。 Lots of interesting queries into the idea of happiness a I’m a fan of Batman, but I’m so far behind on the various storylines and such in the comics。 So take everything in this review with a grain of salt。 I haven’t read the previous series, so I came into this one treating it as a stand alone。 And for what it’s worth, I LOVED it!The story is a lot of fun and takes so many turns that I was not expecting。 It leans into the terrifying and the ridiculous, and there are jaw-dropping moments aplenty。 Lots of interesting queries into the idea of happiness and what makes Batman who he is。 And the Batman Who Laughs is a truly horrifying villain。 His whole design and persona is super creepy。Oh and the art by Jock is incredible。 I’m a big fan of his work, and it’s displayed gloriously here。 It creates the perfect atmosphere of chaos and madness for the story, and there are some super cool layouts。 I also really liked the way the lettering is done, especially the parts where Batman is changing, though it can be hard to read at times。 There’s some stuff in here that doesn’t make a lot of sense, but I just suspended my disbelief (as one does in comics) and had a lot of fun with it! 。。。more

Fun story, but there were a few too many plot holes。 The entire plot hinges on a time limit being placed on Bruce that the villain couldn't have possibly planned for, and the reason it happens feels a bit too contrived。 Some great art and fun storytelling overall。 Fun story, but there were a few too many plot holes。 The entire plot hinges on a time limit being placed on Bruce that the villain couldn't have possibly planned for, and the reason it happens feels a bit too contrived。 Some great art and fun storytelling overall。 。。。more

Great story line, really felt like it was going one way and it didn’t, Scott Snyder and Jock did a great job at making you stay at the edge of your sit and waiting for the punch line。 I’ve tried numerous times in the past to get into more DC comics and they have never grabbed be, but this newer creation has done it, I’m looking forward to getting a little more of The Batman Who Laughs。

Of the more recent Batman stories, this is a pretty good one。 Ostensibly a Joker story, even though the Joker only plays a small (but important) part。 If all that comes of the Dark Metal stories is the addition of the Batman Who Laughs and the Grim Knight to the Batman's already large Rogue's Gallery, it is still worth it - in my opinion! I’d heard so much about this that I felt I should read it。It’s DARK!REALLY DARK!!The most evil iteration of the Batman possible… if Batman became the Joker…Can Batman save everyone and everything from himself?Dark。 Weird。 Disturbing in places。Some very hard to read text due to font and colour, but that’s very much intentional with Batman’s decent into madness but still, quite frustrating at times。I may have to read the Dark Metal comics to understand this better。
