Summary

In the mangroves of Belize, something ancient lies hidden beneath the roots。 And when it surfaces, so too will one of man's baser inclinations。 The root of all evil: GREED。

Boone Fischer and Emily Durand have enjoyed months of quiet on the tiny island of Caye Caulker。 After surviving Hurricane Irma and a mountaintop madman, the two divemasters have finally begun to relax。 Big mistake。

Following on the fins of the best-selling thrillers Deep Shadow and Deep Cut, this third Caribbean action-adventure thriller in The Deep Series takes the reader on a whirlwind tour of Belize。 From the offshore cayes to distant lagoons, from tropical rivers to jungle ruins lost in time, Boone and Emily race to untangle themselves from a deadly plot that threatens to shatter their lives。

"High adventure under pressure! Nobody does underwater action like Nick Sullivan。" - Cap Daniels, author of the Chase Fulton Series。

EXHILARATING Once again, Nick, you have surpassed the level of intrigue of your previous Boonemily adventures。 I especially liked the way Karma had its way in the dynamics of the Price-Wilson relationship。

Boonemily hit the upper crust in this adventureI really enjoyed this story that involved more than their usual diving exploits。 Boone and Emily get involved with a very wealthy and screwed up family。 Well, read it and see for yourself。

Cave diving, Mayan Jade treasure, and deadly evil looters, you won't be able to put it down。Boone and Emily are experienced cave divers and unintentionally fall victim to a man posing as an Archeologist seeking to recover valuable artifacts thought to be hidden in an underwater cave near Caye Caulker。 Once they put two and two together it is too late to extricate themselves and they must muster every trick in their multi talented book just to stay alive。 Boone takes a bullet and Emily is bitten Cave diving, Mayan Jade treasure, and deadly evil looters, you won't be able to put it down。Boone and Emily are experienced cave divers and unintentionally fall victim to a man posing as an Archeologist seeking to recover valuable artifacts thought to be hidden in an underwater cave near Caye Caulker。 Once they put two and two together it is too late to extricate themselves and they must muster every trick in their multi talented book just to stay alive。 Boone takes a bullet and Emily is bitten by a venomous snake, yikes。 Ya gotta read it to find out all the non stop action and bottom line。 Ok, I am ready for the next book! 。。。more

Excellent adventure again full of rich diving descriptions。 This young couple managed to find yet another adventure without intending to。 The book is well written and the characters get a bit more developed with each book。 I was not disappointed with this one, kept all the freshness that was in the first two books。 Looking forward to reading more of their adventures。

A real stinker。 Probably the worst I have read in many a year。

I enjoy this series。 First due to the accuracy of the SCUBA diving and dive trip depictions, secondly due to the accurate descriptions of sites and locations。 This one, however, takes place at a spot where I have not been diving but which has long been on my wish list, namely Belize。 The characters are a bit of stretch, suffering from "terminal cuteness" and a tendency toward a smart quip when a simple answer would suffice。 I am not knowledgeable enough to know whether the Mayan archaeology depi I enjoy this series。 First due to the accuracy of the SCUBA diving and dive trip depictions, secondly due to the accurate descriptions of sites and locations。 This one, however, takes place at a spot where I have not been diving but which has long been on my wish list, namely Belize。 The characters are a bit of stretch, suffering from "terminal cuteness" and a tendency toward a smart quip when a simple answer would suffice。 I am not knowledgeable enough to know whether the Mayan archaeology depiction is accurate but it seems reasonable。 An enjoyable story, the only thing I found an issue is the "deus ex mechana" occurrences that change the course or save the day。 Bit of a stretch, but a great beach read (literally!) 。。。more

Note: Even this is Book 3 in the series, it works as a stand alone novel。Deep Roots is another great adventure thriller! This series just gets better and better。 I really love Emily and Boone, our heroes。 Their chemistry is spot on。 I love their joking around, flirtatious behavior, and ability to take on bad guys。There’s a bit of archaeology tossed into the plot and I really liked this aspect of the story。 Not all riches are gold or drugs。 Plus there’s a touch of dangerous cage diving。 This sett Note: Even this is Book 3 in the series, it works as a stand alone novel。Deep Roots is another great adventure thriller! This series just gets better and better。 I really love Emily and Boone, our heroes。 Their chemistry is spot on。 I love their joking around, flirtatious behavior, and ability to take on bad guys。There’s a bit of archaeology tossed into the plot and I really liked this aspect of the story。 Not all riches are gold or drugs。 Plus there’s a touch of dangerous cage diving。 This setting has such a rich and diverse history & it was great to see that explored a bit。The story does have one weakness and that’s with Emily。 She’s a great character but she’s definitely in the co-pilot seat。 Boone makes nearly all the decisions, he picks up on the bad guys before Emily every time, and sometimes he even has to explain a few things to her。 So I would like to see Emily treated as an equal by the plot instead of just amusing sidekick。The author gives us a little afterword about his personal experiences of the location used for this book, which was very cool。 I also understand his reasons for limiting the cave diving in the story to a just a few scenes。I have listened to all 3 books in this series now and I have commented on Emily’s accent in my past reviews。 She’s from England, but her accent sounds Australian to me。 This story brings that up in a humorous way and I appreciate that author putting that in there。 All around, it’s a fun thriller。 4。5/5 stars。The Narration: Nick Sullivan is a joy to listen to。 His smooth narration is easy to fall into and enjoyable all the way to the end of the story。 He has a variety of accents for the different characters and his personal experience of the settings really shows in his narration。 The pacing is perfect and there are no technical issues with the recording。 5/5 stars。I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions。 The tour is being sponsored by Nick Sullivan。 The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it。 。。。more

Terrific read!! Realistic And SuspensefulThis is the third book in the Caribbean Dive Adventures and it starts off with a bang。 Right away a dead body is found and Boone and Emily are trying not to get dragged into the investigation… but they find a little jade-like figurine and they’re both intrigued。 Little did I know this was only the beginning…Sullivan is able to bring an insane amount of realism to his books that make them jump off the page。 Deep Roots was no different。 This time we’re treated to diving in Realistic And SuspensefulThis is the third book in the Caribbean Dive Adventures and it starts off with a bang。 Right away a dead body is found and Boone and Emily are trying not to get dragged into the investigation… but they find a little jade-like figurine and they’re both intrigued。 Little did I know this was only the beginning…Sullivan is able to bring an insane amount of realism to his books that make them jump off the page。 Deep Roots was no different。 This time we’re treated to diving in Belize, with some cave diving thrown in。 What a thrill! Sullivan throws us off the boat and into the deep end so to speak with this one。 Causing Boone and Emily to face their fears and face a new enemy。The emotional attachment I have to these characters keeps growing with each book。 Each story they become more and more real。 They have problems from their former run ins with other bad guys。 They have panic attacks and PTSD when certain objects appear。 It’s just another layer that Sullivan adds to the stories to take them from good to great。I can’t go into the main antagonist in Deep Roots too much but I thought that Sullivan did a great job setting the scene。 He caused a massive amount of it but kept writing it in a way where I would second guess myself。 I always try and guess the ending of books and I got some of this right but other parts I was way off。 I enjoy that – I can kind of know where the book is going but also be caught off guard。Overall, this was another great addition to the series and the setting, characters, and suspense were all phenomenal。 I can’t wait to see where Boone and Emily take us next… I mean where Nick Sullivan takes us next。 I might have to find a way to pick his brain and see what other tropical locations he’s dived。 。。。more

If you are one who adores well-written and expertly researched action adventures which can stand alongside the excitement and thrills of an Indiana Jones movie, you will want to have a listen to this new audiobook。 Nick Sullivan is both the author and narrator of a recently released story in his ever expanding “The Deep Series” currently available on Audible。 “Deep Roots” is the third and most recent story, at the time of this review, in the series bringing listeners to an original and exciting If you are one who adores well-written and expertly researched action adventures which can stand alongside the excitement and thrills of an Indiana Jones movie, you will want to have a listen to this new audiobook。 Nick Sullivan is both the author and narrator of a recently released story in his ever expanding “The Deep Series” currently available on Audible。 “Deep Roots” is the third and most recent story, at the time of this review, in the series bringing listeners to an original and exciting location full of action, adventure and intrigue found deep within the mangroves of Belize; a country located near Guatemala and Honduras。 I can say that after finishing this book in the series, I’m looking forward to more explorations in the future from this team。 If this type of audiobook seems interesting to you, I think you will enjoy joining Boone and Emily as they take risks which could reap great rewards or, instead, it could cost them their lives。 The story opens by bringing the listener right into an interesting and rather complex diving mystery。 A body, some odd objects, and strange circumstances encompass the first few chapters quickly engaging the listener。 While this portion of the story unfolds, we are also provided some good background details of events relating from some of the previous stories。 As one would expect, Boone and Emily are back in this adventure where the couple relocates from a rather small island to a quite different region of the world having some of the best underwater cave systems。 Plenty of warm water, dense jungle, expansive mangroves, caves, and abundant sunshine to enjoy。 Along with the new location, our couple finds some new friends to join their team as well。 In a place like this, how could this fun and light-hearted team of divers get into any real trouble? Little do they know; in a short amount of time they will become front and center to a dangerous and deadly plot which could be the end of future adventures forever。 As I have said in my previous reviews of Mr。 Sullivan’s works, I find that he provides a level of edutainment (education and entertainment) not often delivered from other authors I have listened to。 I’m not a diver, but I come away from his books with fun and interesting facts and trivia which seems to come up in conversation with others。 You will learn about the dangers of cave diving (I wanted more), the importance of compressed air mixing, along with diverse jungle creatures。 While listening, I found I gained a better understanding of just how treacherous the jungles and mangroves of this country can be。 Very different from the likes of someone raised in the city。 I found this book to contain a deeper focus upon archaeological details than the previous two; which I liked。 Add to this the author’s detailed and descriptive scenic locations and you have a rather enjoyable and compelling story。 The characters are believable, likable, fun, and the well-developed banter between Boone and Emily is always good for a little chuckle。 Our new antihero in this story is just as much a psychopath as seen in the previous books。 The author also sprinkles in some pop-culture references which fans of TV science fiction will find enjoyable。 Remember, those wearing red shirts are some of the first to be taken care of while doing any form of exploring。 As I have stated in previous reviews, I’m not often a fan of the author also narrating their own audiobooks。 I can say that there are few exceptions I have had to this, and Mr。 Sullivan is one of those。 He started as a narrator with his deep and smooth voice and from there branched out in to writing。 So, I can say that his ability to both write and narrate is what makes these books in this series worth listening too。 He knows how to bring the characters to life because he created them, and he also knows why they act the way they do in specific situations。 For me, unlike the others in the series, this book’s narration felt slightly faster paced than the previous。 This is easily rectified by modifying the speed on the Audible application to meet your liking。For parents and younger readers, the book contains vulgar language used by a few of the characters。 Additionally, there are some mature-focused jesting and light romance materials included。 As with most thrillers, there is also some rather graphic violence which may not be appropriate for younger listeners。 If you can deal with these few items, it is an audiobook worth a listen。In summary, the story aligns rather well with the previous two adventures。 If you have enjoyed them, I know you will find this one enjoyable as well。 It is a bit different from the previous book’s location and focus, but it adds a new level of excitement with deeper aspects of mystery and corruption。 The majority of the audiobook’s plotlines are closed at the end of the book and each of the books could be read as a standalone if you would rather。 However, I think we will be seeing more of Boone and Emily, hopefully, in the coming months。 I would have liked a deeper emphasis on the cave systems of Belize, but the author in his closing chapter stated why this was not the case。 I very much enjoy the afterword hearing how the author weaved in actual events, characters, and even had to do some modification to ensure items fit into the overall story。 Again, if you enjoy thrilling adventures, I would pick up a copy of “Deep Roots” and give it a listen。 Disclaimer: This review is based on an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) edition of the audiobook soon to be released。 。。。more
