Summary

he has a talent for planning, and learned about kingship from his father; seduced by an Enchantress, and turned her out the next morning - and she responded by cursing him and his kingdom。。。 to repeat the summer season over and over again。。。 and at the end of the summer, he turns into a killing monster (of different sorts each time) and mindlessly kills; and at the beginning of the new season, the palace is reset - including magical music and food and cleanliness, and any injuries are healed (unless dead); he killed his family the first season; Grey, his Royal Guardsman (and it ends up his older half-brother, and true heir) is the only one who remained with him; in 327 seasons, they have tried everything they can think of to end it (suicide doesn't work)- and to counter the enchantress - always failing; only true love will end the curse; Grey of Wildthorne Valley, Commander of the Royal Guard: swore an oath to serve, and he stoically serves; they have figured out how draw the beast away from the people, and into the forest so he doesn't kill many anymore; enchantress has empowered him to be able to cross over into our world for an hour; he comes every season for another woman - finding one without family or anything to lose; Lilith: the shunned enchantress; not only did she curse the land, but she regularly shows up to inflict more pain on both of them, and to taunt them;Harper : a strong willed woman with cerebral palsy - after many surgeries, she is pretty good, except for one leg that is a bit weak and she has a limp; her mother is dying of cancer; her father left them after getting in too deep with loan sharks - leaving the debt to them to pay off; Jake and Mom and Noah: Jake is an enforcer for loan shark, so far only being intimidating - but the time is coming where more will be expected; Mom is dying, in bed day and night; Noah is Jake's lover, and a resident doctor - who is unaware of most of Jake's life;Grey is 'kidnapping' the next woman for the new season, and Harper is in an alley, standing lookout for her brother (the only thing he'll allow her to help); Harper hears/sees Grey and the woman, and when the woman stops chattering, and is limp in Grey's arms, Harper can't stand by; she attacks him with the crowbar she is holding - and he drops the woman, and she finds herself elsewhere。。。and hence begins the journey of Beauty and the Beast。。。 wary, untrusting。。。 resilient。。。 hears truth。。。 and as she tries to escape, and comes across his people in need, she helps。。。 ultimately creating a Kingdom of Disi (DC) who will be coming the the Prince's aid as part of their betrothal to counter the soldiers of a nearby kingdom making forays into their kingdom/Lilith declares this is the last season。。。 and Harper starts to think she loves Rhen。。。 she demands to go home, and Rhen sends her - with plans to send his people south to be safe, and for him to commit suicide as turns to monster。。。 Harper arranges with Grey to return in 24 hours。。。 she gives jewels to her brother for the gangsters, she says good by to her mother (who dies that night), and goes to meet Gray。。。 but he doesn't come。Her brother doesn't believe her (of course), and she confronts him about Noah (his lover)。。。 who comes over。。。 and on the 3rd night, Grey stumbles into the apartment, beat up, and while Noah sews him up, the gangster bang on the door (where did those jewels come from : ) - and Alex takes them all back to his kingdom;Rhen has turned into a flying monster (throwing self off the cliff didn't cause him to die)。。。 and though Grey has kept most alive, it is difficult。。。 (he is the one to hurt Grey)。。。 Harper goes to track him down, and the monster recognizes her。。。 and he picks her up, flying away with her, she calms him - but, the curse is not broken (love needs to sacrifice); and then the neighboring kingdom's army attacks - and Rhen/flying monster and Harper attack the army - scattering them。。。 but the curse is not broken。。。and it ends with Grey (who is no longer oath bonded to Rhen), sacrificing himself, and Harper tries to stop Lilith from stabbing Rhen, she is stabbed; Grey grabs Lilith, crosses over to the other world, and slashes her neck, then returns to his childhood home in the kingdom (his story will be finished in the next book) and breaks the curse。。。 。。。more

It's been 84 years since I've read a book I didn’t want to put down。。。 actually it's only been about 4, but thank you thank you thank you to the lovely author Brigid Kemmerer for this masterful retelling of one of my all time favorite fairy tales 'Beauty and the Beast'!I had to force myself several times to put the book down and walk away just so I could make it last。 (I still finished it in about 48 hours) I can't recall another time I fell so wholly in love with ALL the characters in a book be It's been 84 years since I've read a book I didn’t want to put down。。。 actually it's only been about 4, but thank you thank you thank you to the lovely author Brigid Kemmerer for this masterful retelling of one of my all time favorite fairy tales 'Beauty and the Beast'!I had to force myself several times to put the book down and walk away just so I could make it last。 (I still finished it in about 48 hours) I can't recall another time I fell so wholly in love with ALL the characters in a book before。 Especially all the strong women throughout, I love to read it :) I don't even read much in way of medieval fantasy so I can't say how it compares to others in the genre。 There was a decent amount of army talk (more than I expected from a BatB retelling) which is normally what keeps me disinterested from fantasy。 The world building of kingdom politics usually bores me but there was more than enough focus on the people and our main character's fierce protection of them that I actually really enjoyed it all。I can't wait to dive into the sequel! 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book! I wasn’t sure what to expect after seeing so much hype but I was pleasantly surprised! The characters were fairly well developed and interesting。 Rhen was quite complex but then so was Grey (who I loved btw)。 I felt it started to slow a bit around the middle but it picked up at end! This is nitpicky but I didn’t like how much “began to” was used。 It’s such an old way of writing, I was surprised to see it given this book is still fairly recent。 I’m surprised they weren I really enjoyed this book! this is probably the best beauty and the beast retelling i’ve read so far。i find that i didnt have a problem with any of the characters and it was nice to read about them。 i liked the way the author approached cerebral palsy and didn’t make it a focus on the book and just the way harper is。 cute romance, likeable characters, plot didnt bother me, pretty straightforward writing also where is the love triangle yall r talking about

Algo sensual!!2!/!!!)En fin, voy a seguir con los otros dos y volveréxoxo gossip valen ~ 。。。more

I think it is more of a 2,5 stars but I guess I like this book more than those I have given two stars。 I liked the story so much and I liked how it was written! And in the first half, I also kind of?? Liked the characters?? But as we dug deeper into their personality I began liking them less and less。Harper started out with saving a girl from getting kidnapped。 I love a queen standing up for other queens 👸 but when she herself got kidnapped into this new wo I have mixed feelings about this book! I think it is more of a 2,5 stars but I guess I like this book more than those I have given two stars。 I liked the story so much and I liked how it was written! And in the first half, I also kind of?? Liked the characters?? But as we dug deeper into their personality I began liking them less and less。Harper started out with saving a girl from getting kidnapped。 I love a queen standing up for other queens 👸 but when she herself got kidnapped into this new world, some of her thoughts gave me, dare I say, pick me vibes。 She said something about other girls loving the clothes in the big closet but all she could think of was getting out of there。 She then went on to saving those in need as a house burned down。 As I said, I love a queen who saves others。 I will not go over everything she does but let's just say I was not a big fan in the end of the story。Rhen, I feel, is kind of the same。 I don't know how but Kemmera makes him seem like he feels sorry for himself - but also as if he does not? Even though he is such a big character I do not have a real opinion about him because every time I read about him, all I could see was him saying he was a bad person and did not deserve to live or rule。 GREY! Was one of the only people I actually liked throughout the book! He was loyal to Rhen throughout the whole book。 Even when he was released of his oath, he still stood by Rhen。 If this curse was real, it would have been broken by Grey with his love for Rhen, honestly。 Grey was sarcastic, had dark humor and overall, was just an amazing character。Besides, the relationship between Grey and Harper were filled with so much attraction that everyone knew it, even LILLITH knew it。 And yet, Harper ends up with Rhen whom she doesn't even trust until the last 100 pages。 I know Jake was not in the book so much but I just wanted to say, not a fan。 He was supposed to be this supportive big brother but he was not written as such。 Him getting mad at Harper for saying she did not want to listen to what he was doing to other people, I feel is like the same as saying "well at least your not getting kicked out of the house as I am" when a friend says they have problems with their family。 The only great thing about Jake is Noah。 Noah was so amazing as he swooped in and saved Grey and then those who were hurt in battle。Also, the battle and the monster were so anticlimactic。 Are you telling me this monster had killed hundreds upon hundreds and it could not be tamed, gets tamed by Harper who calls it a DOG? Nah fam, I'm not here for it。 The story was great and written beautifully but there were many things that made the book unlikeable。I'm sorry :( 。。。more

Before reading this book for myself, I had heard so many mixed reviews on the series itself so I put off reading it for quite a while for fear of being disappointed。 After my reading of the first book however, I am not disappointed at all。 Albeit, it is in no way my favourite book or one of the best books that I have ever read, I definitely think that it is a good read- especially, when you don't have anything else that you are dying to read or are stuck on deciding what to read next。 HOWEVER, I Before reading this book for myself, I had heard so many mixed reviews on the series itself so I put off reading it for quite a while for fear of being disappointed。 After my reading of the first book however, I am not disappointed at all。 Albeit, it is in no way my favourite book or one of the best books that I have ever read, I definitely think that it is a good read- especially, when you don't have anything else that you are dying to read or are stuck on deciding what to read next。 HOWEVER, I did not read the last two books in the trilogy。 I admit that I am the person who looks up what happens in certain books because I absolutely DESPISE reading a book and having the characters that I like together not end up together, having my favourite character(s) die, hating the ending of the book in general, etc。 So, I read the reviews of the next two books and got a summary of what happens in them and as you can probably tell from my not reading of them that I didn't like what happened and it disappointed me greatly。 I feel as though the first book could honestly just be read as a standalone。 I just didn't like the plotline of the second one。 Although, I loved Grey as a character in the first book, I just felt like the continuation of the story was unnecessary and there could have just been an epilogue to end the whole thing off nicely。So if you are going to read the series I would recommend, personally, that you read the first book as a standalone。 。。。more
