Summary

Ever since the monster apocalypse hit town, average thirteen year old Jack Sullivan has been living in his tree house, which he's armed to the teeth with catapults and a moat, not to mention video games and an endless supply of Oreos and Mountain Dew scavenged from abandoned stores。 But Jack alone is no match for the hoards of Zombies and Winged Wretches and Vine Thingies, and especially not for the eerily intelligent monster known only as Blarg。 So Jack builds a team: his dorky best friend, Quint; the reformed middle school bully, Dirk; Jack's loyal pet monster, Rover; and Jack's crush, June。 With their help, Jack is going to slay Blarg, achieve the ultimate Feat of Apocalyptic Success, and be average no longer! Can he do it?

A fast read recommended by my 10 year old nephew。 A town taken over by monsters with most of the adults turned to zombies。 Only a few teens remain。 Lots of fabulous and highly amusing illustrations。

Fun! The boys love the Netflix show/movies and the books just as much。

Even as someone in their late 20s, I enjoyed this book! Yes, it is clearly meant for kids, but monsters and zombies together - what could be better? I also really enjoyed the mix of text and comic art together。 I recommend this one for anyone who wants a quick fun read。

While I didn't get much from this book, I think it will appeal to younger readers。 There were some very funny things (though again, funnier to younger audiences) and I think it will be a great addition to the school library。 While I didn't get much from this book, I think it will appeal to younger readers。 There were some very funny things (though again, funnier to younger audiences) and I think it will be a great addition to the school library。 。。。more

This story was awesome! I wasn't always into post apocalyptic adventures, but this changes my perspective。 It had plenty of fun characters and lots of pop culture references。 I can't wait to read more of their adventures, and hopefully watch the tv show。 This story was awesome! There is a lot going on in this book。 Not just monsters but zombies and I think what may be aliens? This book kind of just takes off and leaves the world building for later I'll admit to being a bit confused。I wanted to like this one way more than I did。 It had a couple moments of humor。 I was curious about this series because of having it on the shelf here at the library and also the Netflix show at least now I have a bit of knowledge about the book I didn’t have before。I am going to check out There is a lot going on in this book。 Not just monsters but zombies and I think what may be aliens? Very good book, fantastic in all aspects。

To be completely honest, this book was okay。 Not much of a big hype but still a bit enjoyable。 I think what I mostly enjoyed was the found family/sibling vibes it gave off (especially towards the end)。 It's pretty much your typical 'male character tries to rescue the princess' trope, except that the apocalypse happened and well, the princess doesn't actually need rescuing。 The main character, Jack, has a horrible sense of humour in my opinion, though I believe 12-year-old me will laugh herself d To be completely honest, this book was okay。 Not much of a big hype but still a bit enjoyable。 I think what I mostly enjoyed was the found family/sibling vibes it gave off (especially towards the end)。 It's pretty much your typical 'male character tries to rescue the princess' trope, except that the apocalypse happened and well, the princess doesn't actually need rescuing。 The main character, Jack, has a horrible sense of humour in my opinion, though I believe 12-year-old me will laugh herself dry。 I'll have to pass this one on to my younger brother & sister and see their take on it。 。。。more

The Last Kids on Earth is a book about an orphaned 13-year-old boy named Jack Sullivan that is trying to survive an apocalypse that has monsters and zombies。 The longer he survives though, the worst it gets。 That is why he needs to find other survivors that can help him。 But if he doesn't, the ginormous, terrifying, creepy creature stalking him will take away his chance。The first reason why I enjoyed the first book of The Last Kids on Earth series and the second, third, fourth, and fifth is that The Last Kids on Earth is a book about an orphaned 13-year-old boy named Jack Sullivan that is trying to survive an apocalypse that has monsters and zombies。 The longer he survives though, the worst it gets。 That is why he needs to find other survivors that can help him。 But if he doesn't, the ginormous, terrifying, creepy creature stalking him will take away his chance。The first reason why I enjoyed the first book of The Last Kids on Earth series and the second, third, fourth, and fifth is that Jack is a great narrator。 He's super funny and explains everything remarkably well。 Another good thing about Jack is that he can narrate things in a sad, mysterious, happy, quirky, or angry way。 Not many narrators can switch moods like him。The "apocalypse" topic is very common, right? Another good thing about The Last Kids on Earth is that the author, Max Brallier, turned that topic from "super common" to "extremely original。" For one thing, in most apocalyptic situations, the story revolves around a grown-up or a group of adults。 In The Last Kids on Earth, you can simply guess by the title that the book is about kids, not adults。 And when we think of an apocalypse, we think of death, destruction, and sadness。 The author tries to focus on the contrary though, like fun in the apocalypse。The Last Kids on Earth also has plenty of great lessons, including never giving up, no matter who you are, and that you should always care about others。 Jack didn't give up and got himself zombified, even though he was an orphaned 13-year-old。 He instead got himself ready to tackle any obstacles on the way。 Jack also looked for any survivors to try to help them。The pictures all throughout the book capture your attention and keep you engaged。 Designed by Douglas Holgate, the pictures make the story clearer and more understandable, which helps beginner readers journey through the book。 。。。more

Picked this up to add to my classroom library… a really fun middle grade read/graphic novel about a group of kids dealing with a monster/zombie apocalypse on their own。 Highly recommend!!

This would be great for reluctant readers who enjoy zombies。 It was easy to follow, it talked about emotions some, it was funny, and the friendships were great。

File this under "read-ish" (I probably need a new category)。 There are SO MANY popular with the kids titles out there that I've never read but continue to enthusiastically rec。 This is one of them。 So, I decided to pick it up。 I read about halfway through before I was confident that A) I can continue to rec this series, but now I can do it BETTER, and B) I totally did not have any interest in finishing this book whatsoever。It's your standard Wimpy-Kid-meets-end-0f-the-world stuff。 Lead kid who's File this under "read-ish" (I probably need a new category)。 There are SO MANY popular with the kids titles out there that I've never read but continue to enthusiastically rec。 This is one of them。 So, I decided to pick it up。 I read about halfway through before I was confident that A) I can continue to rec this series, but now I can do it BETTER, and B) I totally did not have any interest in finishing this book whatsoever。It's your standard Wimpy-Kid-meets-end-0f-the-world stuff。 Lead kid who's a dork with bravado, exceptionally nerdy best friend, school bully, badass girl interest。 It's also 100% pure kid wish fulfillment at the expense of world-building。 (WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOUR TREEHOUSE BE MORE SECURE AGAINST THE MONSTERS THAN, SAY, AN ACTUAL HOUSE?) Zombies and giant monsters? No problem with suspension of disbelief。 It takes you 42 days after the apocalypse to find a tiny screwdriver? TOTAL GARBAGE。 (Yes, I am a TOTAL PITA when it comes to realistic world-building, I don't care who your audience is)That said, it knows its audience well, and riffs quite nicely on both end-of-the world scenarios and friendships。 (The scene of the post-apocalyptic treehouse bucket toilet is A+) It definitely succeeds as a graphic hybrid for people with limited attention spans for blocks of text。 And if it's grooming a generation of kids to read World War Z in 7-8 years, I have no problem with that。 5 stars for "knows its audience," 3 stars for middle-aged librarians with a very literal view of what apocalypses should/should not look like。 。。。more
