Summary

A small book for anyone in search of hope, looking for a path to a more meaningful life, or in need of encouragement。

Happiness occurs when you forget who you're expected to be。 And what you're expected to do。 Happiness is an accident of self-acceptance。 It's the warm breeze you feel when you open the door to who you are。

Years ago, Matt Haig began writing notes to his future self。 These notes were meant as gifts to his future self: offerings of hope to help himself through anything from the darkest periods of his life to a not-so-great day。 As time went on, he added new thoughts and stories, and he turned them into The Comfort Book so that everyone could draw on this well of reassurance and encouragement。 Each of its short meditations gives a new perspective on life and all of its highs and lows--small islands of hope for anyone looking for a more fulfilling, more uplifting way through life。 Incorporating a diverse array of sources from across the world, history, science, and his own experiences, Haig offers warmth and reassurance, reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beauty and unpredictability of existence。

Beautiful and simple and a comfort indeed

I stuck with it because it was short, but I wished I would have DNFed。

Some times there are no words。 Just feelings, and those are too powerful to put into words。 Thank you Matt Haig。

Very excellent。 This is a book I think I will find myself returning to again and again。 So many entries that felt like they were written just for me, but I suppose that is the point the author is trying to make, in that we’re all in this life together。

I listened to this on audiobook, but I will be getting a hard copy of this at the next possibility。 It was a great way to start my week and I can see myself taking this off the shelf during cosy afternoons on the couch。 The entire book felt like a hug, even though I welled up once or twice (happy tears!)。 I very much appreciated that it was the author himself who narrated it。

This is like a new and improved "Notes on a nervous planet" but for people who need a great big hug with words。 These little chapters are reassuring and they ignite hope in the darkest of places。 What an absolute joy! 3。5 starsIt’s a good book! I like Matt Haig’s style of writing so he’s usually an instant buy author for me。 Quite a lot of what he writes really resonates and hits home。 It offers different perspectives on the emotions faced and I enjoyed it。 The only thing I felt was some of it was repetitive which makes it somewhat hard to read。This is definitely not a book you read all in one sitting, but rather one you dip into when you feel you need it/are down。 It was comforting and enjoyable so I’d recom 3。5 starsIt’s a good book! Everyone needs their own comfort book and I love that Haig shared his publicly。

Great book! The word comfort sums it up perfectly。 I really enjoy the variety of stories and quotes and a recipe。 This book also learned me some things about philosophy。 The reason I didn't give it five start is because I didn't connect with everything in the book。 Matt haig uses quotes like; The most powerful moment in life is when you decide not to be scared anymore。 I get kinda irritated by those, because it is so much easier said than done and the way he makes it sound like it's easy frustra Great book! I have a conflicted relationship with Matt Haig books。 Don't get me wrong, I love the guy (especially on social media) But here's the thing with his books, at a certain point they become a bit tedious for me。 All of the loving and comforting (this one was promoted as a ''hug in the form of a book'') become too much, it's like eating sweets, they sure are delicious, but you can make yourself sick if you go overboard with them。 This is exactly what happens to me every time I read Matt Haig's books I have a conflicted relationship with Matt Haig books。 Don't get me wrong, I love the guy (especially on social media) But here's the thing with his books, at a certain point they become a bit tedious for me。 All of the loving and comforting (this one was promoted as a ''hug in the form of a book'') become too much, it's like eating sweets, they sure are delicious, but you can make yourself sick if you go overboard with them。 This is exactly what happens to me every time I read Matt Haig's books。 This one started so beautifully, it was comforting, delightful, full of lovely interesting stories, then as pages went buy it became overwhelming with forced loving and embrace life, and depression is bad, but look at me, I came out of it stronger and wiser and richer。。。 To sum up, this book started as awwwww and ended up as ughhhh 。。。more

Really beautiful little nuggets in here。 Had to read it all at once (library book) but can see how owning this and pulling it off the shelf as needed would be even better。

Great book! I read it over 2 days, but I feel like it would be better absorbed by reading 1 or 2 “blurbs” a day。 Matt Haig writes at the beginning that there is no one way to read this book, but one of his suggestions was to keep a copy in the bathroom。 It makes sense! An app of this book would also be good where a different “blurb” pops up each day。 I read most books as ebooks nowadays, but I may need to buy a physical copy of this one to leave out。

Matt Haig is an auto-read author for me, and this book was delightful! I listened to this audiobook, which Matt reads, and have so。 many。 highlights and clips saved。 I purchased a hard copy of the book as well, and plan on going through again with a highlighter & pen to mark it all up and soak it up even more! This would would make a good gift, and is really quite beautiful & inspiring。 10/10 recommend。

I loved half of this and was kind of unmoved by the other half。 But those bits I loved, I really loved!

Stop reading this review and read this book right now! I am so impressed with its wisdom that my entire family will be receiving copies of this book because I do not want to part with my own copy! Thanks to Matt Haig for giving his readers what we really need right now!

Actual rating: 4。5 / 5I rarely pick up a book I've just purchased, at least I haven't in a long while, but this was the exception。 It stood out like a beacon when I was having a sudden lapse in my mental health during a food shopping trip and I just had to get it then and there。 It couldn't have come at a better time。Oh, this just made me feel so good and seen, and present and grounded in all my feelings。I can really see more of Haig's ethos for life more in this non-fiction, that I started ge Actual rating: 4。5 / 5I rarely pick up a book I've just purchased, at least I haven't in a long while, but this was the exception。 It stood out like a beacon when I was having a sudden lapse in my mental health during a food shopping trip and I just had to get it then and there。 It couldn't have come at a better time。Oh, this just made me feel so good and seen, and present and grounded in all my feelings。I can really see more of Haig's ethos for life more in this non-fiction, that I started getting a sense for in his fiction called The Midnight Library, which I read before this。This really did what it said it would in the title: it gave me comfort。It's one of those books that's perfect to prep you up in the morning or make you feel at ease and validated before bed, and everything in between。I think I would have appreciated the parts that repeated had I not read it back to back over a few days, but thats how I prefer to read things, despite Haig saying this can be read any which way you like。I knew I liked what Haig had to say from his social media, but now having read my second book from him, I am even more sure that I want to read everything he writes。Pick it up, give it a go and enjoy! >(^_^)

This is a beautiful and comforting book that I will want to keep rereading forever。 It is just like the title says and quite the hug in book form。 And Matt Haig writes quite simply and effortlessly。 If you’re feeling low, this is the book to read。
