I was so excited for this new series involving Wolven。 This new shifter series is what all JR Ward fans wanted her to write after she first mentioned it。 I really loved this book， Lydia is such an amazing character and Daniel intrigued me， with so many secrets， being together is not going to be easy， their relationship is a slow burn， there are so many things going on around them。 I really liked the multiple POVs， lots of background and context， and for those who want to know， yes the BDB is inv I was so excited for this new series involving Wolven。 This new shifter series is what all JR Ward fans wanted her to write after she first mentioned it。 I really loved this book， Lydia is such an amazing character and Daniel intrigued me， with so many secrets， being together is not going to be easy， their relationship is a slow burn， there are so many things going on around them。 I really liked the multiple POVs， lots of background and context， and for those who want to know， yes the BDB is involved， it's the same worldbuilding。 The way this one ended will have you begging for the next one， so be aware of the cliffy。 Looking forward to it， a great 5 stars start！ Blog |BookBub | Amazon |Audible |Instagram |Twitter |Facebook |TikTok |YouTube |Pinterest |Tumblr |Bookstore 。。。more

My review:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Heat factor:🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Fans of the Black Dagger Brotherhood have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this novel and the wolven。 And let me tell you， it did not disappoint！ This book was amazing and sexy and full of all the angst that Ward’s fans have come to love！ The question is， how are we going to make it to next summer for book two！？！？！？！

WTF？？？？？？Really？ A cliffhanger？ I hate cliffhangers！ If I would have known that it would be a cliffhanger I would waited for this series to finish before buying this first book。 Also， I am so disappointed with this book。 It felt hastily written， with so many gaping holes in the story and barely passed as a paranormal romance。 Definitely not one of Ward’s better creations。 I feel like the Black Dagger Brotherhood was only used in it to rope in BDB readers to buy the book to generate more sales。I WTF？？？？？？Really？ A cliffhanger？ I hate cliffhangers！ If I would have known that it would be a cliffhanger I would waited for this series to finish before buying this first book。 Also， I am so disappointed with this book。 It felt hastily written， with so many gaping holes in the story and barely passed as a paranormal romance。 Definitely not one of Ward’s better creations。 I feel like the Black Dagger Brotherhood was only used in it to rope in BDB readers to buy the book to generate more sales。I don’t believe I have ever given this low of a rating to a J。 R。 Ward novel before and it saddens me。 😢 。。。more

Lydia Susi is dedicated to studying her wolves。 She's part of a research project tagging and tracking them and making sure they continue to thrive。 When she comes across another poisoned wolf， she suspects the new developer who is working to get rid of the wolves habitat for a new luxury hotel。When a drifter comes to town looking for a job， he comes to Lydia to apply for her open maintenance position。 She's drawn to Daniel John， but is hesitant since he's told her he doesn't stay in one place ve Lydia Susi is dedicated to studying her wolves。 She's part of a research project tagging and tracking them and making sure they continue to thrive。 When she comes across another poisoned wolf， she suspects the new developer who is working to get rid of the wolves habitat for a new luxury hotel。When a drifter comes to town looking for a job， he comes to Lydia to apply for her open maintenance position。 She's drawn to Daniel John， but is hesitant since he's told her he doesn't stay in one place very long。 But there is definite attraction between them that they both won't be able to resist。I was pulled right into this story。 There is a lot of information in this book as it sets up how this world relates to the Black Dagger Brotherhood world。 The connection between Claimed and BDB comes through Xhex who is having nightmares about her past， and her hellren John Matthew who wants to help her。 Turns out that Xhex knows something about what's going on up on that mountain。 I've never been a big Xhex fan， but she and JM felt like old friends in this story。There is a different sort of connection between Lydia and Daniel John。 There was physical attraction for sure， but it's a different sort of yearning from the BDB couples。 I don't know if that explains it， but I did like the relationship between Lydia and Daniel from the start。 It was steamy and full of promise， but the other aspects of introducing this world took precedence over their connection until the late pages。I couldn't help but wonder if there is a connection between John Michael and Daniel John -- that two first name thing and I'm hoping there's more to Daniel's background than we know so far in the story。There's a lot to this story that happens in the final twenty percent of the book。 I loved the ending here。 It wasn't hard to figure out there would be unresolved stuff too when I still had so many questions 80 percent in， but I didn't make mind （too much） although 。。well I won't say more because I don't want to spoil， but you'll be holding your breath in those final pages。I NEED more of this world。 I have so many questions。。There's something I really like about JR Ward's writing in her non-BDB stories。 Even though this one is set in the BDB world， it still has a different tone and voice which I loved。 Maybe I just pay more attention in a fresh series。 And I found Claimed to be fresh and familiar at the same time and it made my time spent reading worthwhile。 Can't wait for more of this story！ 。。。more

OMG！ Vampires， Sympaths， & Wolves oh my！ I love this detour into another world。 I can’t wait for more！ Lydia & Daniel were hot！ I loved how he was so ready to hop on board of her cause。 One of my favorite lines Daniel to Lydia was “Does the sunlight always find you？” They just see each other。 I felt bad for Rick。 He was trying so hard， but didn’t understand her at all。 Daniel saw her， and pulled her back。 I love that this world just keeps getting bigger & bigger！I love that we get more of Xhex a OMG！ Vampires， Sympaths， & Wolves oh my！ I love this detour into another world。 I can’t wait for more！ Lydia & Daniel were hot！ I loved how he was so ready to hop on board of her cause。 One of my favorite lines Daniel to Lydia was “Does the sunlight always find you？” They just see each other。 I felt bad for Rick。 He was trying so hard， but didn’t understand her at all。 Daniel saw her， and pulled her back。 I love that this world just keeps getting bigger & bigger！I love that we get more of Xhex and John Matthew。 I so wanted her to turn him loose of her brother。 We get more information about her， and how she finally realizes she has the BDB at her back。 But Rehv… he can see her， and wants her to know that he sees her。 Rehv is just brave enough to call her on her crap。 Daniel wants to assure that Lydia isn’t left alone。 I can’t wait for more！ Can I have more now？ Please？ 。。。more

This one threw me for a loop。 Having read most （not all） of the "Black Dagger Brotherhood" books， I figured there was no way this would end on a cliffhanger。 Well color me confused， because it definitely does， and man， oh man， do I want to know what happens between Lydia and Daniel。 I must say， I love that Lydia works with conservation， and I was on the edge of my seat for 70% of the book hoping against all hope that I would find out who is the wolven？？ and when I found out， my mind was blown。 F This one threw me for a loop。 Having read most （not all） of the "Black Dagger Brotherhood" books， I figured there was no way this would end on a cliffhanger。 Well color me confused， because it definitely does， and man， oh man， do I want to know what happens between Lydia and Daniel。 I must say， I love that Lydia works with conservation， and I was on the edge of my seat for 70% of the book hoping against all hope that I would find out who is the wolven？？ and when I found out， my mind was blown。 Following expectations， this was an amazing read， in the same world as the BDB。 In fact， if you're super familiar with the BDB， that'll help with some of the other narratives happening。 It's J。R。 Ward: you had to know more than one thing was happening at once， didn't you？ 。。。more

more background。That beginning both saddened and cracked me up。 That poor wolf Lydia was so fierce about and the contrast with her interaction with Rick who's concerned for her safety and caring for the dying wolf。There are two major conflicts: the hotel going up next to the preserve and the fact that it's poisoning the wolves and the Project going under from a lack of funds。 A lesser conflict is the sheriff whom Lydia accuses of protecting the powerful and not the wolves。In the veil was a confusing phrase。 No， I understand the concept of it， but when it was written in the story， it seemed as though I always had to re-read the phrasing。 I dunno。 Probably just me。Hmm， Lydia really is passionate about wolves when she commits that illegal act — one which is， um， revealed at the end。 Yep， it just adds to my curiosity （and suspicion） about that sheriff。 Then there's her resolve to do anything to protect her wolves， despite the evidence。 Still， ya gotta love her bluntness， even if her wild actions fill me with fear。Ward is superb at setting up suspicion about the characters， and she maintains it throughout the story。 I had so many questions about who and what as I read with everything twisted about by the time I finished Claimed。 Oy， my head is still spinning， and I hate that I have to wait for the next in the series。 I need those questions answered！ The unrequited and unspoken love in here only added to my feelings。 I'll tell ya， I cried at the end。Peter's behavior is definitely suspicious， and his disappearance wracks up even more questions。 Then there's all those renovations to his house 。 。 。 It seems we should have also been suspicious about the lamentable Rick and his own addiction。Ward amps up the fear with the mysterious person stalking Lydia， the tracker， the men （man？） in black uniforms bristling with weapons， Daniel's true purpose and identity， the body's disappearance 。 。 。 and reappearance？？， then that humongous surprise at the end。 Oy。 So far， Xhex's and the Brothers' appearance is minimal。 Just enough to attach Claimed to The Black Dagger Brotherhood series。 It also has me intrigued to hell and gone as to how Xhex is connected to events occurring around the Wolf Study Project。 Those dreams of hers 。 。 。 ugh。 It broke my heart with all the insecurities Xhex is feeling。 Yep， all thanks to third person triple point-of-view from Lydia's， Xhex's， and Daniel's perspectives。Just who is Eastwind？ I gots me plenty of questions about that guy。Ward does a great job of painting Lydia as a pathetic loner and all without resorting to an info dump！ I don't， however， buy her or Daniel's insta-love。 It simply doesn't feel right。I don't understand why the mysterious they believe Lydia is deep in it。 Whatever it is。We do get backstory on Daniel through that nightmare he has。LOL， I do appreciate C。P。's honesty， ahem。 Those legality comments about robber barons， the steel industry， today's Big Tech， the U。S。 government？ Oh， yeah， *more laughter*。Yeah， it's not just the Wolf Study Project and the wolves who are betrayed。 This story is more twisted than I could ever imagine。 That Ward 。 。 。 It's a fast pace only slowed up by my The flirtatious Susan is a cashier at the IGA and is married to the fire chief。 They have five sons。 Paul Gagnon is the local mechanic。 The diner is attached to the IGA where Bessie is a server。 Bessie is married to Susan， the grocer's husband's brother。 The Pine Lodge is run by Candy's sister and brother-in-law （who are also Susan and Bessie's first cousins by marriage）。 Miser has a slow tractor。 There's another Bessie， Bessie Farlan who's married， although I suppose her husband could be Susan。Lincoln High School has a glass case with photos that raises questions for Lydia （and me！）。The Black Dagger Brotherhood lives 。 。 。。 。 。 up on a mountain in the mansion Darius built （ Dark Lover， 1）。 Xhex， a。k。a。 Alex Hess， is a half-breed sympath/symphath who feeds off humans' toxic feelings and is the shellan of John Matthew， a Brother （ Lover Mine）。 More Brothers （and others） include Qhuinn and Blay （ Lover at Last， 11， and A Warm Heart in Winter， 18。5）; Vishous who has bad dreams about people's futures; Rhage who's married to Mary， the household therapist （ Lover Eternal， 2）; Butch; Lassiter， who is a fallen angel and the new Scribe （ The Thief， 16）; Nate （ The Savior， 17）， the adopted son of Murhder and Sarah （ The Savior， 17）， has just gone through his transition and isn't long out of the same kind of lab Xhex had been trapped in; and， Autumn， who is Xhex's mahmen their grabby hands action。 The following Q&A is for both longtime fans and new readers。 1: Is it necessary to read BDB first？ Eh。 I'm on the fence here。 This is marketed as the debut in a new series， a spin-off of the BDB。 It's hard for me to be objective as I feel like a bit of a BDB expert。 I do b I received a free copy of this title to read and review for Wicked Reads Longtime fans of the WARDen's BDB series no doubt have a few questions before picking up Claimed， not that they'll hesitate in their grabby hands action。 The following Q&A is for both longtime fans and new readers。 1: Is it necessary to read BDB first？ Eh。 I'm on the fence here。 This is marketed as the debut in a new series， a spin-off of the BDB。 It's hard for me to be objective as I feel like a bit of a BDB expert。 I do believe it would be best for a reader to have knowledge of the world building from BDB。 I don't believe they need to have read every title in the series。 But I do believe it necessary， not seeing this as a first in the series when it comes to connective characters and their shared world building。 New readers would be lost/confused， or at least not get an emotional response reading the novel。 2: Is The Lair of the Wolven the same format as BDB？ No。 Instead of a novel per couple， as the series progresses， each novel doing foreshadowing for future couples， this novel/series focuses on Lydia and Daniel。 A progressive romance。 3: Is Claimed paranormal romance？ Not by my estimation- I felt this more Urban Fantasy， which isn't a bad thing， as that happens to be one of my favorite genres。 If you're looking for some steamy action like in earlier BDB novels， you're not going to find it。 There's a slow-burn vibe shared between Lydia and Daniel， not necessarily an overtly erotic one。 4: What is the tie between the series？ Xhex。 I won't go into detail as it revolves around the actual plot， other than explaining how it ties to her nightmarish captivity in a clinical setting。 Straight out the gate， I'd read the WARDen's shopping list and find it entertaining。 Her voice， the witty comebacks， intriguing way she writes the world around her characters， the badassery， it's all there on the pages。 But I will be honest， I found Claimed a little dry， slow and meandering， not truly invested in the story as I would be with the brothers。 Simply because it's not a one and done story connected to the next and the next by a common theme， but a series unto itself。 Lydia is intellectual， cerebral， highly detailed， and some of those details are not interesting in the least （not at all as interesting as say， Ward's shopping list） A wolf researcher on a nature preserve， Lydia's inner monologue is detailed， which slowed the pacing。 To be honest， I just couldn't connect with her， not truly invested in her as a character as much as what was happening with the wolves。 The mystery surrounding the wolves was intriguing， carrying the story， which isn't a bad thing。 Which is why I felt the novel was more urban fantasy than paranormal romance。 It's not so much character-driven as plot-driven。 While thrilled to hear from Xhex， I always find Ward's format of switching between POV jarring。 When I reread BDB， I skip all the Lessors portions， and struggle in the latter books because of the upwards of 30+ narrators ping-ponging all over the place。 In this case， the reader isn't sure what the connection is， so it's jarring and odd to have Lydia's story interrupted by Xhex。 New readers would be LOST。 Don't get me wrong， I loved being back in the mansion， seeing the brothers in action， but。。。 while it makes sense later on in the novel， it didn't make for a smooth read。 I wanted to love Claimed but gave it 4 stars。 Those 4 stars are out of being a total WARDen fangirl， as I think if I were a new reader， the rating would have been considerably lower。 The ending isn't necessarily a cliffhanger， but the reader finally understands the world building， the characters， and how it all connects， which means book 2 should be a heck of a lot faster paced， more exciting， and more engaging。 If I were a new reader， I would have found the sheer volume of pages tedious and exhausting to wade through， giving up before I got to the meat of the story， then missed out on what is promising to be an amazing sequel。 Fingers crossed the sequel delivers as promised。 Recommended to hardcore WARDen fantatics。 Definitely not recommended to new readers。 Go pick up a copy of Dark Lover and immerse yourself in Wrath & Beth， you won't be disappointed。 （Now I'm hankering to do just that） Last question: Would I reread it like I have the BDB （more than a dozen times for each novel up until The King） Nah。 I'd reread the last portion as a refresher for the sequel， but there is no I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads。 As a diehard BDB fan who has re-read my series favourites more times than I want to admit， I was so excited to receive an arc for this new spinoff series。 It isn’t until the very end of this book that the connection between the two series becomes clear。 This book focuses on Lydia， a wolf researcher working in a rural game preserve。 Most of the book follows Lydia as she attempts to protect her wolves from habitat destruction。 In I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads。 As a diehard BDB fan who has re-read my series favourites more times than I want to admit， I was so excited to receive an arc for this new spinoff series。 It isn’t until the very end of this book that the connection between the two series becomes clear。 This book focuses on Lydia， a wolf researcher working in a rural game preserve。 Most of the book follows Lydia as she attempts to protect her wolves from habitat destruction。 Intermittently， Lydia’s story is interrupted by brief scenes from the BDB mansion where Xhex is experiencing psychosis and attempting to discover more about the experiments done on her in the past。 Lydia’s story builds very slowly。 In fact， this is a surprisingly slow read。 From financial concerns to poisoned wolves， small problems in Lydia’s workplace begin to build until she is forced to rely on her center’s handyman， Daniel， to keep her safe when the threats become personal。 As this is set in the BDB world， I kept waiting for action scenes and supernatural excitement that didn’t happen until the very end。 I didn’t realise until the end that this book is the start of a longer story arc for Lydia and Daniel。 Where the BDB books were classic PNR with a new feature couple in each book， it seems that this whole series will belong to Lydia and Daniel。 It’s only in the last 20% that readers begin to understand how Lydia and Daniel might connect to the BDB characters。 I found the ending frustrating， especially as an ARC reader， because it ends just when the book starts to get exciting。 We’re left with a million questions and the promise of at least a few answers in the next book。 The result is a very slow first book that feels like a 500 page tease。 I like where the series is going but I don’t feel like I got much of anything out of the first story。 。。。more
