Summary

Jayci Lee, author of A Sweet Mess, returns with The Dating Dare—her next witty, chemistry-filled romantic comedy。

Tara Park doesn’t do serious relationships。 Neither does she hop into bed with virtual strangers。 Especially when that particular stranger is her best friend’s new brother-in-law。 It isn’t an easy decision, though。 Seth Kim is temptation personified。 His unreasonably handsome looks and charming personality makes him easy on the eyes and good for her ego。

When a friendly game of Truth or Dare leads to an uncomplicated four-date arrangement with Seth, Tara can’t say she minds。 But their dates, while sweet and sexy, have a tendency to hit roadblocks。 Thankfully, their non-dates and chance meetings get frequent and heated。

Seth is leaving for a new job in Paris in a month and a no-strings attached fling seemed like a nice little distraction for both… But soon Seth realizes that Tara Park doesn’t come in a “nice & little” package--she’s funny and bold, sweet and sexy, and everything he ever wanted and never expected to find。 Neither of them are ready for something serious and both have past relationship baggage they’ve been ignoring, but with a shot at forever on the line will they follow their hearts and take a chance on happily-ever-after?

This book was just okay。 I don’t feel like is was anything to get excited about。 There was so much miscommunication throughout the story that I was frustrated reading it because they could have gotten together much sooner than they did。 The concept of this book was intriguing, but it really fell flat。 After reading 2 books by the author, I don’t think Jayci Lee is an author for me。 Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced digital copy of this book。

I read this book so you don’t have to。 Unless you enjoy lots of descriptive detail on every single thing the characters eat and drink in this book, then maybe you will like it。 I had to force myself to finish this book。 The premise is cute - a game of truth or dare leads to an agreement of 4 dates before Seth moves to Paris。 The storyline had lots of potential, but fell flat。The chapters went on and on about inconsequential things and Tara and Seth’s behaviors were annoying。 I just could not con I read this book so you don’t have to。 Unless you enjoy lots of descriptive detail on every single thing the characters eat and drink in this book, then maybe you will like it。 I had to force myself to finish this book。 The premise is cute - a game of truth or dare leads to an agreement of 4 dates before Seth moves to Paris。 The storyline had lots of potential, but fell flat。The chapters went on and on about inconsequential things and Tara and Seth’s behaviors were annoying。 I just could not connect with any of them and it made for a very slow read。 Thanks to the publisher for a review copy via NetGalley。 。。。more

A Sweet Mess had so much potential, but I didn't end up loving that book。 The Dating Dare sounded cute, so I was all for giving Jayci Lee another chance。 But like other traditionally published books lately, this book just ended up being okay。 Tara and Seth are undeniably attracted to each other, but Tara has sworn off serious relationships and Seth is leaving in a month to go to Paris。 One night leads to Seth daring Tara to date him until he leaves and Tara says yes。 The beginning of this book t A Sweet Mess had so much potential, but I didn't end up loving that book。 The Dating Dare sounded cute, so I was all for giving Jayci Lee another chance。 But like other traditionally published books lately, this book just ended up being okay。 Tara and Seth are undeniably attracted to each other, but Tara has sworn off serious relationships and Seth is leaving in a month to go to Paris。 One night leads to Seth daring Tara to date him until he leaves and Tara says yes。 The beginning of this book took me a long time to get into and care about these characters。 I actually started to enjoy the middle when Tara and Seth spent more time together and were truly falling for each other (though it did feel a bit insta-love), but the ending was aggravating and left me really annoyed with Tara。 They would get mad at each other for not communicating, but then they themselves wouldn't communicate。 And then when one would communicate, the other freaked out because they had sworn of serious relationships and didn't really want to hear how the other one was feeling。 It was just tiring and dropped the book to a three star for me。 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion。This story started off really strong。 I loved the writing style from the first page and the chemistry between Tara/Seth was very appealing。Unfortunately it didn't get much better for me。 The constant back and forth between the 'intense feelings' and the 'it can't happen' drove me a little crazy。It was a very cute story and an adorable couple, but not enough to make me want to continue with this series。 Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion。This story started off really strong。 I loved the writing style from the first page and the chemistry between Tara/Seth was very appealing。Unfortunately it didn't get much better for me。 The constant back and forth between the 'intense feelings' and the 'it can't happen' drove me a little crazy。It was a very cute story and an adorable couple, but not enough to make me want to continue with this series。 。。。more

The Dating Dare is the second book in the Sweet Mess series, but I didn’t realize this when I started it。 It read well as a standalone novel, but it did take me a little while to adjust because there wasn’t much backstory to provide perspective。 I’m thinking you can dive into this one much easier if you have read the first book, but it is not necessary。It is a cute, quick read with witty banter and a lot of chemistry between Tara and Seth and some great steam。 I just didn’t feel like there was a The Dating Dare is the second book in the Sweet Mess series, but I didn’t realize this when I started it。 It read well as a standalone novel, but it did take me a little while to adjust because there wasn’t much backstory to provide perspective。 I’m thinking you can dive into this one much easier if you have read the first book, but it is not necessary。It is a cute, quick read with witty banter and a lot of chemistry between Tara and Seth and some great steam。 I just didn’t feel like there was a lot to the story though。 It seemed a little superficial and flat。 I don’t know if I’m so used to contemporary romances and rom-coms that also tackle other topics。 It touched a little on an abusive relationship, but not until the end。Overall, I enjoyed it but I’m not sure if I am interested enough to read the first book。 I alternated between listening to the audiobook and reading it on my Kindle and I was able to finish it in two days。 The audio was fun to listen to and I’ve heard the narrator, Natalie Naudus, in other audiobooks (i。e。 One Last Stop) and she really fit the story and the characters。Thank you so much to @macmillian。audio, @librofm, @stmartinspress, @netgalley for the gifted copies! 。。。more

Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy of the audiobook。 Absolutely loved this story。 Tara and Seth were enjoyable to read, every other character was likable。 It was fun following their love story。 The only downside was I felt like the audiobook would have been better if Seth’s perspective was read by a male narrator。

This was a really cute kind of frenemies to lovers story。。 I very much enjoyed Natalie Naudus' narration but I do always enjoy the different narrators reading different POVs, especially when they're male vs female POVs。 However I do LOVE the different POVs because you never really have to wonder what the other character in a relationship was thinking。 It was a super fun, steamy romance while not being TOO steamy。 Thank you to Macmillan Audio for an ARC of this! "He was a player, all right。 Quite an accomplished one。 Regency-rake level accomplished。 She needed a damn fan to flutter on her face。" When Seth and Tara keep staring at each other as the best man and maid of honor at a wedding, they make their own afterparty at Tara's brewery (I ran to get my own beer at this juncture)。 A truth or dare drinking game culminates in a juicy dare: go on four dates in the month before Seth moves to Paris。。。 and neither is allowed to fall in love。The truth or dare g "He was a player, all right。 Quite an accomplished one。 Regency-rake level accomplished。 She needed a damn fan to flutter on her face。" When Seth and Tara keep staring at each other as the best man and maid of honor at a wedding, they make their own afterparty at Tara's brewery (I ran to get my own beer at this juncture)。 A truth or dare drinking game culminates in a juicy dare: go on four dates in the month before Seth moves to Paris。。。 and neither is allowed to fall in love。The truth or dare gimmick was cute, but the "given up on love" perfume coming off both leads was a little strong in the characters' first scene together。 Yes, I'm a romantic, but I'm also too jaded for my own good, so my first reaction to our two commitment-phobes was an unsympathetic one。 However, the more I got to know the characters, that all evaporated。 Tara's inventive swear words and stern inner self-talk especially kept me smiling。 I found the banter and un-self-aware games they played with one another to be highly amusing, especially as their sexual tension-- no, sexual frustration--became more intense。 Lee's writing on that front is an art form。 Sure, our characters gave themselves a one month time limit, but this doesn't read like a fling。 Their emotions are in it from the jump, and all the little interactions that prolong and amp up the tension between them are exquisite perfection。 I'm always one to harp on romance pacing, and this book moved at a perfect speed for my enjoyment。Also, the swoony romantic in me loved the second date of the four required by the dare (to be clear: I would literally drop dead of an acute case of the feels if I went on ANY of the four dates)。 A skiing weekend gone wrong results in Seth nursing Tara back to health, and I think there is nothing more likely to melt me into a puddle of goo than that kind of care。 For those following along for my recent thriller-induced "I will never ski" rant, I take it all back。 I will go if a hot man goes with me to distract me from the scaries and then offers to care for me if injured (I might even fake a sprained something or other just for that, let's be honest)。This was a complete package of a romance for me。 After a brief rocky start, I was delighted to find myself cheering for these characters and waiting for them to discover the depths of their feelings as they traipse through four romantic dates and several spicy sweet non-dates。 Thanks to St。 Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this heart-warming book, out 8/3。 。。。more

I enjoyed the first one so much, particularly because I really liked the characters。 This one, with Seth and Tara, not so much。 Tara is so insecure that she becomes annoying。 Seth is just OK。 The writing is cheesy and the story is predictable。 I was hoping for a book more like the first。 The narration was well done, although loses a few points because the dialogue the narrator was given wasn't very good。I received a copy from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 I enjoyed the first one so much, particularly because I really liked the characters。 This one, with Seth and Tara, not so much。 Tara is so insecure that she becomes annoying。 Seth is just OK。 The writing is cheesy and the story is predictable。 I was hoping for a book more like the first。 The narration was well done, although loses a few points because the dialogue the narrator was given wasn't very good。I received a copy from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
