I rated this 2 stars and I am unsure if that is a harsh rating for this book。 I think with all the pirate-specific language and frequent naming of boat parts, I struggled to pay attention to the story。 Although this is undoubtedly an acclaimed book, I think it didn't feel exciting enough to me。 Once the crew were on treasure island, I felt that the story was drawn out。 I liked the themes of the book, but it isn't one of my favourite classics。 I rated this 2 stars and I am unsure if that is a harsh rating for this book。 I think with all the pirate-specific language and frequent naming of boat parts, I struggled to pay attention to the story。 Although this is undoubtedly an acclaimed book, I think it didn't feel exciting enough to me。 Once the crew were on treasure island, I felt that the story was drawn out。 I liked the themes of the book, but it isn't one of my favourite classics。 。。。more

Sadly not as good as I remembered it as a kid。 Pretty simplistic story。 Also I don’t speak pirate very well so there was a language barrier。

An incredible book and so much fun for my husband and I to read to each other in bed during the long, cold Canberra nights。 The 1985 Ralph Steadman illustrated version was even more spectacular with illustrations which hit just the right balance of striking and dark。 ⚔️🩸🩸🩸⚔️

I almost finished this book but decided I could not read it for another second because I don’t hate myself

This was a good time but as I was reading, ‘Muppet Treasure Island’ definitelywas playing in my brain。

In all honestly I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as a did。 I didn't enjoy Jekyll and Hyde and I thought I would like this only as an extension of Black Sails, but I am delighted to have been wrong。 It's got all my favorite things, frame narratives, unreliable narrators, Good Guys who, upon closer examination, are actually not terribly good, ghosts, gender instability (Flint the male pirate vs Flint the female parrot), inevitability, &c &c。 In all honestly I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as a did。 I didn't enjoy Jekyll and Hyde and I thought I would like this only as an extension of Black Sails, but I am delighted to have been wrong。 It's got all my favorite things, frame narratives, unreliable narrators, Good Guys who, upon closer examination, are actually not terribly good, ghosts, gender instability (Flint the male pirate vs Flint the female parrot), inevitability, &c &c。 。。。more

Hard to believe I'm 72 years old and reading Treasure Island for the first time。 This was a really fun read plus I'm getting ready to read "The Traitor of Treasure Island by John Drake which I understand goes on with the story of Jim Hawkins and thought I ought to have at least a little background first。 I can really understand how youngsters who have a need for adventure could fall into all the swashbuckling fun that goes on in this children's classic。 Glad I finally got into my reading rotatio Hard to believe I'm 72 years old and reading Treasure Island for the first time。 This was a really fun read plus I'm getting ready to read "The Traitor of Treasure Island by John Drake which I understand goes on with the story of Jim Hawkins and thought I ought to have at least a little background first。 I can really understand how youngsters who have a need for adventure could fall into all the swashbuckling fun that goes on in this children's classic。 Glad I finally got into my reading rotation。 。。。more

I can't believe l've waited so long to read this。 I'm 60 yrs old and I just finally read (listened) it。 You know how many "classics" turn out to be less than classic? Well not this time。 I'm glad I finally got around to it。 If you decide to give it a go and you like to listen to books I would strongly suggest the Audible Edition。 I can't believe l've waited so long to read this。 I'm 60 yrs old and I just finally read (listened) it。 You know how many "classics" turn out to be less than classic? A classic, I would recommend getting the version with the NC Wyeth illustrations。

Books 2021#66: Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson。This is a classic and it still holds up very well。 It does have some obscure seafaring terms that may addle landlubbers like me, but you can either get an annotated version or Google the terms。I read this in my younger days but hardly remember and not being a Disney fan (here comes the venom!) I never saw it's version or any。 Jim Hawkins is a pretentious lad who looks upon himself to save the day just as any young reader would imagine hers Books 2021#66: Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson。This is a classic and it still holds up very well。 It does have some obscure seafaring terms that may addle landlubbers like me, but you can either get an annotated version or Google the terms。I read this in my younger days but hardly remember and not being a Disney fan (here comes the venom!) A classic adventure story about pirates, morals and human nature。 The slovenian audiobook of this was done really well。

This is a hard one to rate。 I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did。 Good wee storyline and easy to read prose。 At the beginning there was a term used and I wasn't sure if it referred to race or not。 If it was - then the following sentence was horribly racist。 I thought perhaps not, and continued reading and was enjoying it, but then right at the end an overtly racist term was used that confirmed that the first term had been too。 I understand that I'll come across this sort of thing in olde This is a hard one to rate。 I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did。 Good wee storyline and easy to read prose。 At the beginning there was a term used and I wasn't sure if it referred to race or not。 If it was - then the following sentence was horribly racist。 I thought perhaps not, and continued reading and was enjoying it, but then right at the end an overtly racist term was used that confirmed that the first term had been too。 I understand that I'll come across this sort of thing in older books but that doesn't mean it isn't offensive, and I refuse to rate highly any book that does。 For that reason alone I have given it a lower star rating。 That's not to say it isn't worth reading - I believe it is。 。。。more

A classic I throughly enjoyed。A fun Bildungsroman with adventure, sailing, and pirates。Little saddened to realize that most screen adaptations I’d seen had a slightly different ending, that I won’t “spoil” anything but if I’m honest I liked a wee bit better。 But I understand where RLS is coming from。Really only thing I’m thing disappointed in is myself for not actually reading it sooner。Now I’m going to go off and drink some rum。

Started on a high note then went downhill from there。 I didn’t enjoy reading it and halfway through stopped engaging with the story and dragged painfully through pages。 I had many issues with the writing style and was angry with R。 L。 S because the concept was great but the delivery wasn’t so much

Il personaggio di Long Silver John lo trovo indimenticabile。 Trama trita e ritrita

This book is what it is。 It is a book written primarily for a audience of one; a twelve year old boy who was the stepson of the author。 When this is taken into consideration then reading it as an adult needs to be viewed not only through this prism but also mindful that it was written over a century and a half ago。The book is not as swashbuckling as I had expected it to be, it is at times very thoughtful with quite intricate plot lines such as why the fort on the island was given over to the buc This book is what it is。 It is a book written primarily for a audience of one; a twelve year old boy who was the stepson of the author。 When this is taken into consideration then reading it as an adult needs to be viewed not only through this prism but also mindful that it was written over a century and a half ago。The book is not as swashbuckling as I had expected it to be, it is at times very thoughtful with quite intricate plot lines such as why the fort on the island was given over to the buccaneers。The book is quite enjoyable although to get the best from it I would not give it to a 12 year-old as to appreciate the plot twists probably takes a lightly more mature mind。The big surprise to me was that Long John Silver, although not the nicest person on the planet, was not the bloodthirsty pirate that his infamy had led me to believe。 I even quite liked him and felt a bit sorry for him。 。。。more

Isla del tesoroShiver my timbers。Relectura 2021Nuevamente me fascino, zarpando a la aventura con Jim Hawkins y Long John Silver, no solo me permite remontarme a la mar (aunque viva enfrente), también a la nostalgia de mi infancia。Quizá no sea el libro más piratesco, pero si el que más me gusta de piratas。Yohoho and a bottle of rum。6 stars

Treasure Island is a historical and classical adventurous story written by Robert Louis Stevenson in the 80s。 This book is a tale about a lionhearted young boy named Jim Hawkins, who finds a treasure map to an island that has immense treasure hidden in it。 He goes out on a voyage with people seeking the same treasure。 However, he is betrayed on the way by his own crew。 The selfish pirates have swashbuckling bloodshed among each other in order to get the ultimate treasure。 This book is not boring Treasure Island is a historical and classical adventurous story written by Robert Louis Stevenson in the 80s。 This book is a tale about a lionhearted young boy named Jim Hawkins, who finds a treasure map to an island that has immense treasure hidden in it。 He goes out on a voyage with people seeking the same treasure。 However, he is betrayed on the way by his own crew。 The selfish pirates have swashbuckling bloodshed among each other in order to get the ultimate treasure。 This book is not boring because of the constant battles and twists that keep on coming till the end。 However, Hawkins is acquainted with some honest and fearsome people。 They have tons of difficulties along the way but they finally capture the treasure in the end。This book is basically a thriller and classic which has greatly introduced the Jolly Roger, a one-legged pirate, Davy Jones, dead men’s chest which was used in the famous movie “Pirates Of The Caribbean。” This book is full of amazing and unexpected twists and is by far the best one I have read so far。 It is loaded with stuff that can greatly interest people who are into adventure and thrillers。 。。。more

A swashbuckling adventure on the high seas for young Jim and the legendary Long John Silver!

It gave me what I needed for a summer read。 A short easy to read distraction with a theme of the sea。 I loved all the names popping up that I recognized from other, newer works of fiction。

One of my favorite books as a boy and still every bit as exciting and fun as I listened to the audiobook with my 11 year old son on a road trip。 Pure delight。 Alfred Molina nails the reading。

Treasure Island is the story of some very dutiful, patriotic English men (and a boy) struggling against some unpatriotic English men to get hold of a treasure。 I suppose the story is as predictable as it is because both sides are English? Is that why it is as boring as plain toast?

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Great book。 Remembered a lot of it but thought the book was very well written。 Even though Silver was obviously a bit of a bad lad you still had to admire him and it was pleasing to think he may have had a good life。

Fun adventure novel with memorable characters, excitement, and humor。 I gave it five stars because the novel is exactly what the author intended it to be: a light read that will entertain both children and adults。

An epic fantasy book great for younger teens。 This classic is the backbone of most pirate stereotypes and it's clear to see that Disney's pirates of the Carribbean takes huge inspiration from it。 I wish I read this book when I was younger and all the pirate tropes used were new to me。 However, I didn't so this book just didn't seem very original to me even though it is THE original。 An epic fantasy book great for younger teens。 This classic is the backbone of most pirate stereotypes and it's clear to see that Disney's pirates of the Carribbean takes huge inspiration from it。 I wish I read this book when I was younger and all the pirate tropes used were new to me。 However, I didn't so this book just didn't seem very original to me even though it is THE original。 。。。more
