Summary

Forget hustling。 This book will disrupt your deeply held beliefs about work, success, and, indeed, life。

If you’re the average person in the developed world, you spend 70 percent of your waking hours at work。 And if you’re the average person, you’re miserable for most of those hours。 This is simply not an acceptable state of affairs for your one shot at life。 No matter your station, you possess incredible unique powers。 It’s a modern myth that hard work and hustle are the paths to success。 Inside you is a soul。 And once you unleash it fully into the domain of work, magic happens。 Awakening the Buddha and the Badass inside you is a process that will disrupt the way you work altogether。 You’ll gain access to tools that bend the very rules of reality。

• The Buddha is the archetype of the spiritual master。 The person who can live in this world but also move with an ease, grace, and flow that comes from inner awareness and alignment。
• The Badass is the archetype of the changemaker。 This is the person who is out there creating change, building, coding, writing, inventing, leading。 The badass represents the benevolent disruptor—the person challenging the norms so we can be better as a species。

Once you integrate the skill sets of both archetypes, you will experience life at a different level from most people。 You will operate from a space of bliss, ease, inspiration, and abundance。 The Buddha and the Badass: The Secret Spiritual Art of Succeeding at Work will show you how。 Author of the New York Times bestseller The Code of the Extraordinary Mind and founder of Mindvalley, Vishen Lakhiani has turned his own life and company into his research lab。 He’s codified everything he’s learned into the how-to steps in this book。 The Buddha and the Badass teaches you how to master your work and your life。

I got value out of this read and am glad I read it。 It’s just a bit longwinded。

Part business memoir, part self-help and part corporation advice, this book is full of gems of wisdom, interesting stories and meaningful information。 However, it is slow to start, has quite a lot of (I think unnecessary) potty language (especially one chapter) and is so full of advice, it is hard to know where to start。 I recommend reading it and pulling out perhaps the two or three things that resonate the most to action in your own life。 The audiobook was professionally narrated and a good wa Part business memoir, part self-help and part corporation advice, this book is full of gems of wisdom, interesting stories and meaningful information。 However, it is slow to start, has quite a lot of (I think unnecessary) potty language (especially one chapter) and is so full of advice, it is hard to know where to start。 I recommend reading it and pulling out perhaps the two or three things that resonate the most to action in your own life。 The audiobook was professionally narrated and a good way to absorb this rather long book。 。。。more

I am an occasional reader of personal development books, and I always feel inspired by them。 However, it is not always easy to connect with them。 I really enjoyed this book (apart from the celebrity name-dropping)。 Released in the midst of a world pandemic which is a perfect time for self-reflection and questioning and aligning of the two worlds we live in。 This is a guide to transforming your beliefs and habits to realize happiness, achieve success, and fulfill your purpose, using the exact str I am an occasional reader of personal development books, and I always feel inspired by them。 However, it is not always easy to connect with them。 I really enjoyed this book (apart from the celebrity name-dropping)。 Released in the midst of a world pandemic which is a perfect time for self-reflection and questioning and aligning of the two worlds we live in。 This is a guide to transforming your beliefs and habits to realize happiness, achieve success, and fulfill your purpose, using the exact strategies Lakhiani used to fuel Mindvalley's explosive growth。 Totally loved the exercises in the book。 The exercises are actually what made the book apart from other self help books。 A lot of good take aways also especially about identity shifting and knowing your vision not only for your job or company but also for yourself。 Overall, a good decent read about work life harmony。 。。。more

To all of my goodreads friends, I'm using the wonderful blinklist app to power through a bunch of business books。 Therefore, my reviews are based on 15 min audio summaries, not full reads。 Take that for what it's worth! Not a difficult read, full of gems。

Not an enjoyable read it's mostly how the author struggled in his days setting up his startup moving it to different geographies and all。 Nothing Buddha or spiritual in it。 Not an enjoyable read it's mostly how the author struggled in his days setting up his startup moving it to different geographies and all。 Nothing Buddha or spiritual in it。 。。。more

It's pretty good, nice motivational advice for people in business。 Like most books of this genre, it's aimed at people who come from a relatively advantaged position; it won't be much help to a person who doesn't have any resources to start a new business。 It's pretty good, nice motivational advice for people in business。 Like most books of this genre, it's aimed at people who come from a relatively advantaged position; it won't be much help to a person who doesn't have any resources to start a new business。 。。。more

This book successfully shows you how to bring compassion, authenticity and harmony in the workplace and how to align with your true values and your mission。

Not the best self help book out there。 It has some quotes that I liked a lot, but it contains a lot of personal examples。 I was expecting more interesting ideas。

Loved it! Many things are very businesses focused but a very good insight in life transformations overall, really enjoyed and the exercises included were very eye opening for me

Okay so the book started off nice and all。。 Until the 3rd paragraph on page 97。 That is pure discrimination no matter how you defend it。 How can you say you respect someone's belief but then also say that they either let go of their beliefs or are let to go by the company? Nope that just brought the whole book down。Then it followed with corporate bs that is so cliche in corporate companies these days - bbq with the ceo, happy hours/drinks after work, etc。 Again, these tips are completely exclusi Okay so the book started off nice and all。。 Until the 3rd paragraph on page 97。 That is pure discrimination no matter how you defend it。 How can you say you respect someone's belief but then also say that they either let go of their beliefs or are let to go by the company? Nope that just brought the whole book down。Then it followed with corporate bs that is so cliche in corporate companies these days - bbq with the ceo, happy hours/drinks after work, etc。 Again, these tips are completely exclusive to extroverts or people who are comfortable with partying。 And no, introvert don't need a shot or 2 to get started with talking please。Then like others mentioned in their 1 star reviews that this book was filled with self praise。。。 I agree。 Good on you, but give me what you said the book was about。 If you said this was going to be 90% your biography then it would have been exactly that。 But you said it's a book about helping the reader join those who succeed at work。 Oh and ya, the constant reference to his 1st book。 If I wanted to read your first book I would do it。 Just ask me to do it once or twice, not 10-30 times?! I'm here to read Budhha and the Badass, not get pushed to read The Code of the Extraordinary Mind。 Come on! 😅Only towards the end there were some good points to learn from。 And this is in the last few 100 pages。There are some points that do contradict each other as well。 The author says that affirmations don't work especially if you don't believe in them in the back of your mind。 And then they suggest we ask "Lofty Questions" to ourselves。 Okay, how is it better to ask "why am I so happy?" (lofty question) vs telling myself "I am happy" (affirmation)? I'd rather use affirmations than lofty questions because lofty questions sound so 'me' centric。 Also why would such a lofty question work over an affirmation if I'm sad? 🤷🏻‍♀️At the back of the book, in the book blurb, it is said this book is about how to join those who succeed at work。 But no, this book is all about how to implement the tips in the book I'm your own company as a ceo or someone at an influential position at the company。 Then there are some alternatives for "stealth leaders"。 There is nothing about being a successful worker in the company you work in。 So nope this book does not do what it said it does。 For the points towards the end of the book and for some good points at the beginning of the book, 3/5 stars。 But a 0-1 stars for the middle of the book。Recommended for someone who is going to or already has a startup / own company or is at an influential position in their organisation。 Not for employees。⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars only。 But close to being a 2。5。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would。 I really enjoyed Vishen telling his story and teaching through real life。 What he has created with Mindvalley is amazing。 If you are looking to learn some familiar lessons in a new way through the lens of personal storytelling, this book is for you。

Emily Barrett

I was too stubborn to put it down when I should have just moved on。It feels extremely Sales-pitchy and surface-level all throughout and I kept waiting for it to get better: it did not。It was a mediocre self-development book that might help teenagers。

Sascha Illyvich

It was a solid read overall。 I’m not a fan of Vishen’s globalist mentality - but much of that nonsense was left out。 The exercises make the book - putting thought into who you want to be will definitely be good for you。 Do I like it as much as Cose Ex? The jury is out。 But it’s a definite different type of business book。 Yes it is heavily supportive of his company。 I’d expect nothing less。 But the stories were fun and memorable。 They’ll make the lessons stick。

This is a pretty good business book。。。full of stories, practical examples and exercises。Understanding the world of work and your environment is essential for success。。。Vishen Lakhiani takes you on quite the journey。。。If you like business-oriented books, then this is for you。。。

Such a boring book。 Full of ideas which we heard one thousand times before and we heard them better from others。It might be good for a 23 years old who just start a startup and have never read any other good book from good authors like Sinek or Goden。So boring

It's a pretty decent book。 As a business owner I had some questions about setting organisational and workplace culture。 Attitudes of individuals etc et。 I've been fascinated by mind valley for a while now, so it was good to get into the head of its founder。 It's a pretty decent book。 As a business owner I had some questions about setting organisational and workplace culture。 Attitudes of individuals etc et。 I've been fascinated by mind valley for a while now, so it was good to get into the head of its founder。 。。。more

Good book, kinda promotional in nature。 Though m sure their programs are helpful, Vishen left no stone unturned to talk about them at every possible point he could。 Overall some good learnings!

Loved the title but only read 100 pages before I gave up。 This is a great book if you want to work at Mind Valley。 Everyone else can read an any Tony Robbinson book and get the material in a more entertaining and enlightening manner。

Cons: Most of the case studies shared are from his own business (Mind Valley), which made it feel like he's stroking his ego。Pros: Easy read, no need to read chapters in order。 Non-conventional, modern take on how to lead a team and grow a company。 Cons: Most of the case studies shared are from his own business (Mind Valley), which made it feel like he's stroking his ego。Pros: Easy read, no need to read chapters in order。 Non-conventional, modern take on how to lead a team and grow a company。 。。。more
