A lot of physiology explained but I bought the book as I was expecting more about the science behind each oil used in various blends。 There was not much of this, but a 5-part explanation of physiology and why you must take care of each level for total health。 Lots of focus on the vagus nerve, which is great, but there was no in-depth scientific rationale as to why clove and lime were used in the Parasympathetic blend。 I wish she would've talked about the science of this blend for 5-10 minutes, A lot of physiology explained but I bought the book as I was expecting more about the science behind each oil used in various blends。 There was not much of this, but a 5-part explanation of physiology and why you must take care of each level for total health。 Lots of focus on the vagus nerve, which is great, but there was no in-depth scientific rationale as to why clove and lime were used in the Parasympathetic blend。 I wish she would've talked about the science of this blend for 5-10 minutes, not 5-10 seconds。。。 Where are the sources for saying things like clove and thyme can reduce inflammation? I want a source。 Maybe they're there in the real book, but not in the audio book that I have。There were small lists of EOs read off for certain organs in general, but no reasoning as to why they were chosen。 Sometimes words like "anti-microbial" were used, but that alone wouldn't have explained the rationale for its use in a specific blend。 Very little science when it comes to the essential oils。 Lots about inflammation, the glymphatic system, the BBB, the gut microbiome, activated glial cells, why the liver is important, why sleep is important, but that's not what I bought the book for。 I was looking for cutting-edge science on EOs。 Did the author use muscle testing for these lists of EOs to find out why they were good for each organ? I don't knock AK, but if so, then the lists of beneficial EOs will look different for everyone。She also states that plant-based omega-3 fatty acids heal you brain, like flax, chia, etc。 This is not true。 Most people do not have enough delta-6 desaturase to create DHA from omega-3 in seeds。 A better source would be algae, but it's never mentioned。 She is a nutritionist, she should know this basic concept that everyone else gets by now。"Blue tansy may help modulate the immune response by reducing excess histamine 。。。" -- well does it, or does it not? What is this "maybe" based on? What's your source? "Essential oils can bring your body into alignment。。" What? There's a lot wishy-washy language used when speaking of EOs。If you are going to state that hot essential oils can raise your body temperature, and that raising your body temperature by 2 degrees can make your immune system 40% more effective, you need to say more than "put some in a carrier oil"。 Apply it where? How much? How often? Which oils? If you're going to make claims, then go all the way to explain exactly how to achieve what you're explaining。If you're looking for something packed with cutting edge essential oil science with citations, this book may not be for you。 I bought it after listening to the Ben Greenfield podcast as he made the book seem like it was in this mind-blowing category, but listening to the podcast and looking at the formulas she sells would've sufficed。 If you'd like a summary of physiology in 5 Keys for Health showing how it all fits in together, then I may recommend this book。 I had the last chapter left when I was writing this review, which to be fair, is all recipes (though not always exact ones), and again no references for claims like "myrtle calms the nervous system"。Also, it's written through a green allopathic lense -- "antibacterial", "antiviral" -- instead of "balancing, warming or strengthening" to the organism。 This approach misses so much。 Maybe the author just uses these descriptives because they're old and common knowledge。 Herbalists never say anti-bacterial! I was expecting more。 。。。more

This Self-Help Resource Book is Truly Worth its Weight in Gold! In June after attending the online workshop, “Vagus Nerve Stimulation with Essential Oils” presented by Jodi Cohen, I preordered Ms。 Cohen’s text, Essential Oils to Boost the Brain and Heal the Body: 5 Steps to Calm Anxiety, Sleep Better, and Reduce Inflammation to Regain Control of Your Health。Whether you are someone like me who is at the cusp of 62 years of age, or if you a young woman in your 30s dealing with uterine fibroids, o This Self-Help Resource Book is Truly Worth its Weight in Gold! In June after attending the online workshop, “Vagus Nerve Stimulation with Essential Oils” presented by Jodi Cohen, I preordered Ms。 Cohen’s text, Essential Oils to Boost the Brain and Heal the Body: 5 Steps to Calm Anxiety, Sleep Better, and Reduce Inflammation to Regain Control of Your Health。Whether you are someone like me who is at the cusp of 62 years of age, or if you a young woman in your 30s dealing with uterine fibroids, or perhaps you’re someone who is trying to heal the lingering effects in your body months after contracting COVID19, I think you will welcome the opportunity to read this volume。 This new self-help guide has arrived on the scene, just at the right moment。Living with the unpredictability of a worldwide pandemic, many of us have devoted countless hours trying to improve our health and/or finding ways to assist our friends and loved ones。 This has resulted in our investing a disproportionate amount of time attempting to navigate the myriad of ways to heal our immune systems, while at the same time, seeking ways to calm our nervous systems, especially given the intensity of this anxiety we have collectively been experiencing。 This is precisely why this text could not have been published at a more opportune time, thankfully presenting its material in a well-researched and concise manner, addressing these two critically important interconnected health concerns。I have personally benefited from the use of essential oils blends in balancing/supporting my own health。 At the same time, I have sought effective ways to help family members and friends seeking to improve their health utilizing aromatherapy。 This book presents ways to incorporate the use of targeted essential oil blends, attacking specific health needs, while at the same time it presents information on implementing and/or improving diet and lifestyle practices to strengthen the components of the body’s immune system。The research presented in this guide helps to illuminate the qualities of the oils individually, how these oils perform individually, how they interact when combined with other essential oils forming synergistic essential oil blends, and how and when to apply the blends in the most effective manner。 Benefits, as well as important safety precautions of essential oils and blends, are also presented in a user-friendly format。 This information is presented in the context of strengthening components of the immune system such as the parasympathetic nervous system, the endocrine system, and the hypothalamus, among others, shedding on light on ways to balance and support these key components leading to good health。The text concludes with a 5-step regimen that can help most people recover and restore their health。 The information that Jodi Cohen has packed into this must read text is amazing。 It’s truly worth its weight in gold! 。。。more

As this book centers on the brain, much of it relates to that, but there was also information on using oils to support various organs/systems of the body and even what oils could be helpful in breaking down biofilms or supporting proper glucose levels。 My only complaint would be that the information seemed quite scattered to me; it could have been better organized。 。。。more

This book is chockful of information on essential oils and how they work on a biological level to affect your mood and health。 I thought it was a very informative read and really enjoyed it!
