A delightfully odd collection of short stories that make no sense。。。 and make no effort to! Each of them a quick read, but a wonderful break from the real, sensible world。

I do not have a lot of experience with surrealism, but Carrington’s short stories were intriguing, shocking and captivating。 Overall, I might be a bit generous in this rating, but I had fun with this little collection。

Surreal, spooky, short。 Easy to digest。 A quick read。 Woke up my imagination。

Reading this I realised I knew the stories! I could remember an illustrated book I had as a child。Beautiful and full of will, like everything Leonora did。

Insubstantial but there are some fun stories here。 I liked Uncle Sam Carrington the best but the other ones are pretty good, too。 I think that the collection suffers a little bit from the law of diminishing returns with the stories towards the end not being quite as good。 It might have been better to mix the order up a little bit more。

Probably a better painter than a writer at this point of her career, although "The Debutante" was fantastic。 Probably a better painter than a writer at this point of her career, although "The Debutante" was fantastic。 。。。more

Loved the first two stories, the third and fourth were also quite good, and the last three were mainly just very confusing。 Overall, this is a super interesting and fun author though: the stories were really weird, fun, and readable, and her style is absurdist but simultaneously very reminiscent of Shirley Jackson in feeling!

I always thought myself not much of a surrealist fan, but recently realised it was because I'd only ever been seeing men's surrealist art and that there was a whole world of surrealist women artists whose work felt really different。I read this book of short stories at 3am when I couldn't sleep and it was the perfect timing, as the stories are nightmarish, confusing and amusing。 I particularly loved the hyena/girl life swap of The Debutante, the gothic horror of White Rabbits, and freaky revenge I always thought myself not much of a surrealist fan, but recently realised it was because I'd only ever been seeing men's surrealist art and that there was a whole world of surrealist women artists whose work felt really different。I read this book of short stories at 3am when I couldn't sleep and it was the perfect timing, as the stories are nightmarish, confusing and amusing。 I particularly loved the hyena/girl life swap of The Debutante, the gothic horror of White Rabbits, and freaky revenge tale The Seventh Horse。 。。。more

All the fables of this little book are dreamlike and quirky; they are not for everybody。 My favourite one was The Debutante, there is something funny about it。。。

Miitta

I give four stars mainly because of the last story in the book。
