You know I have started this review 6 times now…。。Lisa Jewell is one of my favourite authors, ever, this was my least favourite book by herOh its perfectly OK, it just didn’t gel plot or feasibility wise for me, what saves it is the authors amazing writing style/skill which as always had me turning each page and wanting to know the outcome even when I wasn’t fully invested, good ending I really look forward to the author’s next book 6/10 3 Stars

The Night She Disappeared is the latest wickedly twisty psychological thriller from bestselling suspense writer Lisa Jewell in which a cold case, an abandoned mansion, family trauma and dark secrets lie at the heart of the story。 On a beautiful summer night in 2017 in a charming English suburb, a responsible young woman, 19-year-old Tallulah, and her new boyfriend, Zach, disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend。 It's a well deserved evening off for mother Ta The Night She Disappeared is the latest wickedly twisty psychological thriller from bestselling suspense writer Lisa Jewell in which a cold case, an abandoned mansion, family trauma and dark secrets lie at the heart of the story。 On a beautiful summer night in 2017 in a charming English suburb, a responsible young woman, 19-year-old Tallulah, and her new boyfriend, Zach, disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend。 It's a well deserved evening off for mother Tallulah who has left her baby with her mother Kim。 Kim watches her daughter leave and, as late evening turns into night, which turns into early morning, she waits for her return。 And waits, but it is to no avail。 Desperate to find out where she might be, Kim contacts Tallulah’s friends and discovers that Tallulah was last seen heading to a party at a house situated in the nearby woods that locals know only as the Dark Place。 It hardly sounds inviting, does it? And the stories that swirl around it are enough to unsettle anyone。 But are any of the horror stories related to Tallulah’s vanishing? Two years later in 2019, the mystery of Tallulah’s disappearance remains unsolved and a writer named Sophie moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that borders the same estate near the boarding school in which her boyfriend has just begun working as headteacher。 The dense forest is the writer's favourite area for long walks and it's on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, "DIG HERE。" Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground? This is a compulsive and enthralling mystery with plenty of creepiness and a fast-paced, tightly spun narrative。 It's a contemporary thriller with twists at every turn and a steady stream of reveals and red herrings propelling you onwards。 With a claustrophobic atmosphere created by the forest setting and more suspense and intrigue than you can shake a stick at, you can clearly see the gap Tallulah has left behind and the palpable grief felt by her family。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

I liked this book from Lisa Jewell。 It’s a good mystery that had me gripped, I couldn’t put it down。 There’s multiple points of view and multiple timelines。 I liked the twists and that she kept you guessing, however I did guess the ending about half way through but it was still enjoyable。

How much do I love Lisa Jewell。。。。。she keeps you turning the pages and always has an ending that is satisfactory yet you don't see it coming。This mystery has three different timelines and narratives。 2017: Twenty year old Tallulah and Zack have a child and they live with Tallulah's mother Kim in an English suburb。 You read this from Tallulah's perspective and learn she isn't in love with Zach anymore。 Zach had abandoned her after she told him she was pregnant。 After months of handling things alo How much do I love Lisa Jewell。。。。。she keeps you turning the pages and always has an ending that is satisfactory yet you don't see it coming。This mystery has three different timelines and narratives。 2017: Twenty year old Tallulah and Zack have a child and they live with Tallulah's mother Kim in an English suburb。 You read this from Tallulah's perspective and learn she isn't in love with Zach anymore。 Zach had abandoned her after she told him she was pregnant。 After months of handling things alone her feelings have changed when he insinuates himself into her life again。 This tension charged situation is well written。 One evening when the two are out on a "date" Scarlett Jacques appears at their table and invites them to a party at her house。Tallulah contacts her mother Kim and asks if she minds watching the baby longer as she has been invited to a party with college friends。 By morning there is no sign of them。 Tallulah and Zach have disappeared into thin air。 In the 2018 timeline Kim is still frantically trying to find her daughter with zero help (or concern) from Zach's mother Megs。 A year passes and the disappearance of the two becomes a cold case。 You read about Kim's life handling her grandson, always sad and hoping someone will come forward about her daughter's disappearance。In 2019 thirty-four year old Sophie, a mystery novelist, moves into the head master's quarters at Manton College with her boyfriend Shaun。 While Shaun is dealing with the responsibilities of his new position at Manton college, Sophie explores the wooded area around their living quarters。 She comes upon a cardboard sign with the message Dig Here and a downward arrow attached to a post。 Sophie does dig and comes up with an engagement ring still in the box。 This is the thread which starts the naturally curious Sophie to research the missing couple and leads her to Kim。There are many supporting characters in this novel and the author fleshes them out so you can visulaize them quite clearly。 As you turn the pages and chapters lands you back into 2017 a dangerous game of deception is revealed。The ending - it all comes together and it most certainly was not what I expected。 Well done。Publication date September 7, 2021 by Atria Books。 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers。Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced reader's copy of this book。 I was not compensated for the review, all opinions are mine。Sharing with Joy for British Isles Friday。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 *sigh*I had high hopes。 I truly thought this was going to be remarkable based upon the reviews and high ratings。 But man, what a letdown。 The majority of the characters are dull。 No depth to them。 The only exception was Kim, Tallulah‘s mom。 I did appreciate the way the story was told。 I thought the reveal was well done。 But as for what happened to Tallulah and Zach…well that was obvious from around the 30% mark。 But the “hostage” situation was absolutely ridiculous。 It made no sense to me。 Eithe *sigh*I had high hopes。 I truly thought this was going to be remarkable based upon the reviews and high ratings。 But man, what a letdown。 The majority of the characters are dull。 No depth to them。 The only exception was Kim, Tallulah‘s mom。 I did appreciate the way the story was told。 I thought the reveal was well done。 But as for what happened to Tallulah and Zach…well that was obvious from around the 30% mark。 But the “hostage” situation was absolutely ridiculous。 It made no sense to me。 Either kill her from the jump or let her go。 Especially if you’re trying to keep your daughter (and your own family) safe。 Pin everything on the girlfriend。 The fact that Scarlett’s family help her captive for a year was stupid。 STUPID。 Also, they were able to find the hiding family based on a few Instagram posts uncovered by a novelist? Ummm, ok。 I’m sorry, I know technology can be amazing, but I guess it should’ve been mentioned exactly HOW the location was discovered。 IP address? Small markings in the pic? Someone saw their boat? WHAT?!?!The only part of the ending I truly enjoyed was Liam’s revenge。 Anyway, underwhelming in almost every way。 It definitely had potential。 I just wished the ending wasn’t so over-the-top and absurd。 。。。more

This book is set in two timelines。 2017 & 2019。 In 2017 we follow Tallulah as she prepares for a night out with her boyfriend, leaving their baby in the capable hands of her mother Kim with whom they all live。 A night out that she, and boyfriend Zach both fail to come home from。 We also follow the days leading up to that night as well as some of the direct aftermath。 It appears that Tallulah met up with friends from college and went to a house party。Back in the present, 2019, we meet Sophie as s This book is set in two timelines。 2017 & 2019。 In 2017 we follow Tallulah as she prepares for a night out with her boyfriend, leaving their baby in the capable hands of her mother Kim with whom they all live。 A night out that she, and boyfriend Zach both fail to come home from。 We also follow the days leading up to that night as well as some of the direct aftermath。 It appears that Tallulah met up with friends from college and went to a house party。Back in the present, 2019, we meet Sophie as she moves in to accommodation in the boarding school where her boyfriend has just taken up the position of headmaster。 She's a crime author so she has a nose for investigation so, imagine her "delight" when she comes across a sign fixed to a tree - "Dig Here"。 Then imagine her intrigue at what she unearths。。。 Spoilers prevent me from saying much more but Sophie is then thrown onto a course which will lead her to trying to figure out what happened to Tallulah and Zach。。。I've not that long discovered this author - yes I know - but since I have, I have read everything she has newly written as well as trying to play catch-up with her back catalogue。 There is something about her style of writing, her plots, characters, delivery, that just gels with me so well。 It's hard to put a finger on exactly what, and to be honest, I'm not sure knowing is important, I just know that before I start a book by her I need to clear my decks for the foreseeable as I know I will get sucked in and be grumpy if I have to put it down for more than a life-or-death situation! This book was no exception, sucking me in from the off, holding me captive throughout and spitting me out at the end wholly satisfied。 Characters were excellent, wholly believable and easy to connect to - both in the positive and negative。 Plot was expertly contrived and very well delivered, holding my level of intrigue high all the way through, compelling me to keep reading。 And with no superfluous padding or waffle and description limited to just the necessary to progress and complement the storyline, the book got on with itself very well。 All in all, a cracking addition to an already well impressive back catalogue。 My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book。 。。。more

🎧 This was an interesting storyline。 I was intrigued from the get go。 It’s told from multiple timelines which I love as I feel I’m getting fed the information from the beginning and the end and it’ll all come together when it meets in the middle。 It was a slow burner and at times I felt it was a bit drawn out but it did offer up some great twists and turns。 Totally could identify with Kim’s character as I think anyone with kids would。 Some characters were truly unlikeable but that’s down to the 🎧 This was an interesting storyline。 I was intrigued from the get go。 It’s told from multiple timelines which I love as I feel I’m getting fed the information from the beginning and the end and it’ll all come together when it meets in the middle。 It was a slow burner and at times I felt it was a bit drawn out but it did offer up some great twists and turns。 Totally could identify with Kim’s character as I think anyone with kids would。 Some characters were truly unlikeable but that’s down to the authors great way of writing them。 The narrator really suited this storyline and I could totally identify between the characters which is always a plus。 Would recommend this listen。 Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC thats due to be published on the 22nd of July。 。。。more

I want to go on record right now stating that Lisa Jewell can absolutely do no wrong! I don’t know how she cranks out hit after hit, but she can not miss! The Night She Disappeared is classic Jewell and will have you questioning and second guessing until the very last page。 Everyone knows that I’m a sucker for a plot I can’t predict and a twist I don’t see coming。 This delivers faster than Domino’s!It is whip smart, strategic, and will have you propping your eyelids open for just one more page! 3。5 stars rounded up。 Review of the audiobook narrated by Joanne Froggatt, known for her Downton Abbey fame! The narration was great, Froggatt captured the tension and drama perfectly。This was a mixed bag for me, I was immediately drawn into the story of Kim and Tallulah, and then Sophie in the later timeline。 It was a gripping and captivating start and I was so intrigued to see where the book would take me。The dual timeline was great at first, but in the second half of the audiobook I began to l 3。5 stars rounded up。 Review of the audiobook narrated by Joanne Froggatt, known for her Downton Abbey fame! The narration was great, Froggatt captured the tension and drama perfectly。This was a mixed bag for me, I was immediately drawn into the story of Kim and Tallulah, and then Sophie in the later timeline。 It was a gripping and captivating start and I was so intrigued to see where the book would take me。The dual timeline was great at first, but in the second half of the audiobook I began to lose track。 There were more characters introduced that I forgot their role in the story, and although I enjoyed the ending I did have to keep rewinding it to follow what was happening。I definitely enjoyed this more than Jewell's previous book and I would definitely recommend it to thriller fans! 。。。more

Another well written and plotted novel by Lisa Jewell; one of my favourite authors。 Young parents, Tallulah and Zack take a night off from caring for baby Noah。 They leave him in the care of Kim, Tallulah's mum, but they never come back。 Kim, knowing how much Tallulah loves her son, is convinced they would never run off。 The couple are still missing a year later, when Shaun and his partner Sophie, move to the town where Shaun is taking on the role of Head Teacher at the exclusive Maypole House B Another well written and plotted novel by Lisa Jewell; one of my favourite authors。 Young parents, Tallulah and Zack take a night off from caring for baby Noah。 They leave him in the care of Kim, Tallulah's mum, but they never come back。 Kim, knowing how much Tallulah loves her son, is convinced they would never run off。 The couple are still missing a year later, when Shaun and his partner Sophie, move to the town where Shaun is taking on the role of Head Teacher at the exclusive Maypole House Boarding School。 Sophie, a crime writer, becomes very invested in the mystery of the disappearances。 When some strange incidents occur she begins her own investigation。The story is told from a number of viewpoints and through three timelines。 They cleverly ramp up the tension and you soon learn that some people know more that they are saying。 The slow development of the plot is just right for the gradual reveal of the fate of Tallulah and Zack。 The characters are really well drawn, in particular Kim with her determination to find her family。 The depiction of the relationships between the characters is very realistic。 There is a real skill in the way the author leaves you wanting more at the end of each chapter。 I was gripped by this twisty tale。Many thanks to Netgalley and Random House for an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

I have heard lots of good things about Lisa Jewell but I've never read any of her books。 I am only surprised by how long I've waited! I really enjoyed this slow burn, multi timeline mystery/thriller。 When doting mum Tulluah goes for a night out with Zach they leave their son with her mum Kim。 When they haven’t returned by the morning you are left wondering what happened to them。 Had me hooked from the start and I enjoyed all the twists。This audiobook is read by Joanne Froggatt。 I remember her fr I have heard lots of good things about Lisa Jewell but I've never read any of her books。 I am only surprised by how long I've waited!
