Summary

All books are booky, but some books are more booky than others

Very clever book。 I loved every implicate meaning the book offered。

Technically, I listened to it。

The story is simple yet has so many underlying complex symbolisms。 Even when it is known to many how it all ends, there are some who still believe that there could be a different ending, only if done “correctly” this time。

Fran Henderson

Absolute drivel

Road Worrier

A fine parable of the stolen revolution, which plays itself out again and again in human history。 Take heed or repeat history and be disappointed!

This was a re read after reading it for school many years ago。 I feel now I have more knowledge of the Russian Revolution and got to enjoy the story much more。 Orwell is known for his strong political messages and I think he handles it better here than in 1984。 1984 is great but it's more about it's themes and message than character and plot, that's fine in its own way because the message is that strong but I feel animal farm gets to have it both ways。 A message just as strong as 1984 with way m This was a re read after reading it for school many years ago。 I feel now I have more knowledge of the Russian Revolution and got to enjoy the story much more。 Orwell is known for his strong political messages and I think he handles it better here than in 1984。 1984 is great but it's more about it's themes and message than character and plot, that's fine in its own way because the message is that strong but I feel animal farm gets to have it both ways。 A message just as strong as 1984 with way more memorable characters。 It's a quick read but a lot is packed into its short length, every chapter has something to say and gives the reader something to think about。 。。。more

Wow wow wow so many thoughts okay let me gather them alll。。。。1。 It is *bonkers* that a novel written in 1945 as a metaphor for the Soviet Union still holds deep social and political relevance in the modern world。 Benjamin is RIGHT: the more things change, the more they stay the same。 The battle between the bourgeoisie and working class is a never-ending cycle。2。 I read this in grade 9 as a set work book but didn’t really understand all the metaphors。 This time around, I picked up on so much more Wow wow wow so many thoughts okay let me gather them alll。。。。1。 It is *bonkers* that a novel written in 1945 as a metaphor for the Soviet Union still holds deep social and political relevance in the modern world。 Benjamin is RIGHT: the more things change, the more they stay the same。 The battle between the bourgeoisie and working class is a never-ending cycle。2。 I read this in grade 9 as a set work book but didn’t really understand all the metaphors。 This time around, I picked up on so much more。 I reckon my favorite characterization is the raven portraying the Russian Church。3。 Boxer is the OG essential worker。 。。。more

Well written, short, and makes you think about society。 I can see how this can be read in middle school to spark discussions, reminds me of reading Lord of the Flies。The preface of my version of the book talks about Benjamin and the notion of “indoor vs outdoor talk” within his parent’s life, and it makes me reflect on my own family’s concept of indoor and outdoor talk。

Rất ngắn gọn nhưng rất nhiều ý nghĩa ẩn dụ và châm biếm, dễ hiểu vì sao ở Việt Nam lại bị cấm phát hành vì cuốn sách đậm mùi chính trị và đấu tranh giai cấp。 Mọi người có thể coi đây là một cuốn sách chế giễu XHCN (dù đôi chỗ cũng hơi quá), nhưng đồng thời cũng thể hiện rõ sự xấu xa của giới tư bản, và xét cho cùng, chẳng chế độ nào ưu việt hơn hay tệ hơn, và thậm chí đôi khi 2 chủ nghĩa này còn bị trộn lẫn vào nhau “It was impossible to say which was which”。Dù đi theo con đường nào, thì mục tiê Rất ngắn gọn nhưng rất nhiều ý nghĩa ẩn dụ và châm biếm, dễ hiểu vì sao ở Việt Nam lại bị cấm phát hành vì cuốn sách đậm mùi chính trị và đấu tranh giai cấp。 Mọi người có thể coi đây là một cuốn sách chế giễu XHCN (dù đôi chỗ cũng hơi quá), nhưng đồng thời cũng thể hiện rõ sự xấu xa của giới tư bản, và xét cho cùng, chẳng chế độ nào ưu việt hơn hay tệ hơn, và thậm chí đôi khi 2 chủ nghĩa này còn bị trộn lẫn vào nhau “It was impossible to say which was which”。Dù đi theo con đường nào, thì mục tiêu ban đầu và quá trình thực hiện cũng như kết quả đạt được đều khác xa nhau, cái còn lại cũng chỉ là vì lợi ích bản thân trên hết “Man serves the interests of no creature except himself”。 Một thế giới lý tưởng là nơi “All animals are equal” nhưng trên thực tế thì không bao giờ đạt được mà đành phải chấp nhận một điều đó chính là “some animals are more equal than others”。 Nếu bỏ qua yếu tố chính trị thì cách viết của tác giả khá hài hước và thú vị, có thể “giả ngu” đọc để bớt thấy phần dark của tác phẩm sẽ đỡ nặng đầu hơn :)) Napoleon và Squealer đúng là trùm lươn lẹo mị dân :)) 。。。more

Phenomenal work of satire。 Once I started understanding who was who, not only did I find the text engaging, but also informative。 There are lessons to be learned from this book that could be applied today。

This is a short but enjoyable story of the problems with dictatorships。 It was written to denounce Soviet communism, but it applies to totalitarianism at both ends of the political spectrum。 Orwell does a good job of using the animals to reflect the personalities and events over the first 28 years of the Soviet Union。 I think it would work even for people unfamiliar with many of the specifics of Stalin vs。 Trotsky, Five Year Plans, etc。, as the plot is fairly straightforward。The development of t This is a short but enjoyable story of the problems with dictatorships。 It was written to denounce Soviet communism, but it applies to totalitarianism at both ends of the political spectrum。 Orwell does a good job of using the animals to reflect the personalities and events over the first 28 years of the Soviet Union。 I think it would work even for people unfamiliar with many of the specifics of Stalin vs。 Trotsky, Five Year Plans, etc。, as the plot is fairly straightforward。The development of the animals' characteristics is uneven, but I think this works for what Orwell was trying to accomplish--many of the characters are there to serve a function rather than play a significant role。 The pigs obviously stand out (particularly Squealer and Minimum), and Boxer, for me, is the star of the show。 Muriel, Clover, and Benjamin are also memorable and admirable, although in very different ways。 Beyond that, there isn't a lot of need to devote a lot of description and discussion for the rest of the animals in Orwell's allegory。I have read the book many times。 I really enjoyed it the first few times, and it still holds up as a good book。 Because of the inconsistent development discussed above, it runs the risk of not holding up to repeated readings。 The plot moves quickly and, at times, predictably。 If read as an allegory, the parallels are often obvious。 If read as a novel, it's short and possibly undeveloped。I know it seems like I'm arguing against myself here。 Essentially, it works very well for what it is。 It's some of his best and most important work。 I definitely recommend it。 In terms of storylines, though, I prefer some of his other works that really explore the central characters。 。。。more

Haha this is short and definitely not sweet。 It is written in 1943 and still completely relevant today。 I found this leadership of the pigs deeming policies that are to personally benefit them but are explained as being for the greater good sadly familiar and I’m from the US。 This sort of “sneaky” politics is what the US is known for。 I found the ending where the dirty greedy pigs and the humans weren’t distinguishable anymore an actual perfect ending。 This book explains government corruption to the nines。 And guess what!? We are the stupid horse and sheep that do not know the alphabet。。。。 I was fascinated knowing this book was difficult to publish and was a banned book because of the book being written about Russia and Russian leadership。 Very fascinating to read the authors note。 And now after reading this book I know why this book is so important。 。。。more
