Comfort book!!!

Such a classic story! Tolkien’s descriptions of the characters brings them to life in my eyes and adds so much to the classic fairytale。 10/10 would recommend。 I listened to the audiobook read by Andy Serkis and his voices were so spot on。Such a good book!!

What a beautiful adventure ¡

Catherine

Andy Serkis narration of this book made it way more interesting than most of the plot。

Finally I've read this ultimate fantasy classic。 I really liked it, but can't say I loved it。 Maybe cos it's lacking epic atmosphere, I've expected it would have。 Bilbo's adventures were funny and exciting but not unexpected thanks to the movie adaptation。 Although it's a definite must-read to all fantasy fans。 Finally I've read this ultimate fantasy classic。 I really liked it, but can't say I loved it。 Maybe cos it's lacking epic atmosphere, I've expected it would have。 Bilbo's adventures were funny and exciting but not unexpected thanks to the movie adaptation。 Although it's a definite must-read to all fantasy fans。 。。。more

The Hobbit is a fantastic children's adventure novel, that really everything has been said about before。 I have read it many times over the years before, and I was surprised it was less dense than I remembered。 It's a fairly fast moving, and very episodic, story I devoured in one sitting。 One thing I found so good about the novel was it's world building。 If you look at the book in a bubble without Lord of The Rings (as it was originally written and published) there is a lot of little touches on The Hobbit is a fantastic children's adventure novel, that really everything has been said about before。 I have read it many times over the years before, and I was surprised it was less dense than I remembered。 It's a fairly fast moving, and very episodic, story I devoured in one sitting。 One thing I found so good about the novel was it's world building。 If you look at the book in a bubble without Lord of The Rings (as it was originally written and published) there is a lot of little touches on a much larger world and lore。 Gandalf mentions finding Thorin's father in the dungeons of The Necromancer。 Who is the Necromancer? What's he up to? We don't know (well we do if we read LoTR, but again we're looking at this as a stand alone book as originally intended)。 These sort of details, like The Necromancer, mention of The White Council, Radagast, all of these bits of lore and world building implying a far larger world I think makes the story much richer and more "lived in"。 It's something Tolkien was very good at, and I think something people still obsess over his work for。 I don't think I need to tell you to read The Hobbit, but you should。 Even if you're intimidated by The Lord of The Rings you should still read The Hobbit, as it is a fully stand alone adventure。 。。。more

This was such a fun read! Having not seen the movies before I read this, I came in with an open mind and a clean slate, and was surprised with the adventures。 Tolkien has a way with words, which at times made the story difficult to get into and hard to stay motivated, but his characters and word building are fantastic!

This is my new favorite book, it was pure serotonin from start to finish。 I think I put off reading Tolkien for so long because I was afraid it would ruin the movies。 But I was so so so wrong!

Utter perfection。 This is my first time finishing The Hobbit, and I adored it so much。 I can't wait to finally read The Lord of the Rings for the first time as well。 Utter perfection。 This is my first time finishing The Hobbit, and I adored it so much。 I can't wait to finally read The Lord of the Rings for the first time as well。 。。。more

My final conclusion of this book was extremely breath-taking。 I admired the extraordinary world which evolves around Bilbo Baggins and his company。 Through ups and downs of the novel, I was with them along the journey。 All the characters were both unique as the book itself。 Indeed I'm happy to say that I laughed and mourned amongst side them, at the beginning and until the end。 This book will always be part of me wherever I go and think back of the struggle and gain of what it offered me, imagin My final conclusion of this book was extremely breath-taking。 I admired the extraordinary world which evolves around Bilbo Baggins and his company。 Through ups and downs of the novel, I was with them along the journey。 All the characters were both unique as the book itself。 Indeed I'm happy to say that I laughed and mourned amongst side them, at the beginning and until the end。 This book will always be part of me wherever I go and think back of the struggle and gain of what it offered me, imagination and hope。 It will certainly be here on my bookshelves for a very long time!! Prepare yourself if you ever dare read this wizardly enchanting book。 It will both place you deep inside the mountain with nasty goblins and amongst a greedy fire breathing Dragon。 A tale of uncertainty and the most unexpected lays within its pages。 。。。more

I’m not usually into fantasy, But this was fast paced and action packed。 literally every chapter had something exciting in it。 a favorite。

Fantastic book。 Brilliant characters, magical journey and just a lovely feeling when reading。 Tolkien spends a lot of time describing and setting the scene, with all its rivers and nooks and burrows; it certainly helps I’m immersing the reader but I definitely was lacking in some of the more specific vocabulary of the woodland variety。Glad to have read it before watching the film :)

I really enjoyed Tolkien's narrative voice。 It felt like a grandfather telling a bedtime story: intimate, familiar, engaging, and fantastic。The story was very simple but didn't feel empty or uneventful and was paced appropriately。 I really enjoyed Tolkien's narrative voice。 It felt like a grandfather telling a bedtime story: intimate, familiar, engaging, and fantastic。The story was very simple but didn't feel empty or uneventful and was paced appropriately。 。。。more

Listened to the audible recording by Andy Serkis。 Absolute masterpiece。 When gollum showed up, it was actually him! Happy to have finally read this, now I can see why ppl thought 3 movies was too much for this book。Andy Serkis just has such great voice acting。 The Elf King, Smaug, Trolls, Goblins, Eagles, Gandalf all had perfect voices。 He even sang the songs! Whenever I read songs in books I just skip over them, so this was great。

I really enjoyed the setting but this one really started to drag for me。 The audiobook on Spotify from Phuc is THE BEST and is what kept me going, and is ultimately what’s going to carry me through the series。
