Summary

“At a glance, Mike comes off like a 1980s teen movie bully on downers。” - Playboy Magazine“…Mike Ma bragged about crashing a White House press conference。” - The Huffington Post。 Now, you can read his long-awaited first book。 Harassment Architecture has been described as an almost plotless and violent march against what the author calls the "lowerworld"。 It's the story of a man, sick on his surrounds, bound by them, but still seeking the way out。

Sometimes it's brilliant, violent, transgressive, and inspiring - but then sometimes it's just bog-standard, bland reactionary opinions on race and gender。Ultimately though, I personally enjoyed the insight into the author's mind and I'm looking forward to reading Gothic Violence。 Sometimes it's brilliant, violent, transgressive, and inspiring - but then sometimes it's just bog-standard, bland reactionary opinions on race and gender。Ultimately though, I personally enjoyed the insight into the author's mind and I'm looking forward to reading Gothic Violence。 。。。more

Too angsty。 More of a manifesto than a work of fiction。 Borrows from the classics, futurism, sturm und drang but it’s a bit of a hodge podge and could use a more cohesive plot and more editing。

Kinda funny at times, but some chapters are lackluster。 I wouldn't say the writing is good, but it's not bad。 This book is a culmination of homosexual-esque manlet rage and run-of-the-mill (cringe) right wing twitter rethoric of "eat raw meat, drink raw milk。" And of course, a bit of accelerationism。 The redemption factors of this book are the fact that I laughed and got mildly invested in it。 Entertaining garbage/5 Kinda funny at times, but some chapters are lackluster。 I wouldn't say the writing is good, but it's not bad。 This book is a culmination of homosexual-esque manlet rage and run-of-the-mill (cringe) right wing twitter rethoric of "eat raw meat, drink raw milk。" And of course, a bit of accelerationism。 The redemption factors of this book are the fact that I laughed and got mildly invested in it。 Entertaining garbage/5 。。。more

Industrial Society and Its Consequence is a necessary prerequisite to fully understanding this book。 Harassment Architecture is a hedonistic descent of a man who is at first glance a nihilist into the underworld around us。 However, the author reveals his love of beauty and his unorthodox method of reclaiming his birthright。 I would not recommend this book to most people, but it is a chaotic glance at disorder all around us that modern man with the will to stomach it might find value in reading。

I've rarely felt this ambiguous about a book which is why it's hard to give it a rating。 But it's also some of the most interesting and captivating fiction I've read in a long time。However, I got bored and put off rather quickly by the repetitive violent daydreams and the crude, overdrawn edginess - yet that at times was delightfully contrasted by glimpses into the more innocent, wholesome side of his mind that cherishes nature, beauty (and thick girls), as well as the increasingly surreal and c I've rarely felt this ambiguous about a book which is why it's hard to give it a rating。 But it's also some of the most interesting and captivating fiction I've read in a long time。However, I got bored and put off rather quickly by the repetitive violent daydreams and the crude, overdrawn edginess - yet that at times was delightfully contrasted by glimpses into the more innocent, wholesome side of his mind that cherishes nature, beauty (and thick girls), as well as the increasingly surreal and crazy daydreams。 Funny parts, too。 And whilst irritating, disturbing and seemingly pointless, you really have to credit him too for crafting these moods and images of visceral unease。 Overall, I really liked the raw anarchic style and the lack of a real plot didn't bother me。 When I first read the book one year ago, shortly before the Rona, I couldn't quite relate to what I perceived as excessive negativity and doom and gloom mood。  He says himself that what he's lamenting about mainly applies to America, so that might be why。 But now I understand much better what he is talking about, since it is now more obviously than ever seeping into the rest of the world。 What I think he really captured well in certain passages is this general timeless horror of the human condition, lurking in the depths of our beings, which does seem to be reaching its pinnacle at this point in history。 And the striving towards something better, towards God, that results out of this。 An acute awareness of the many contradictions, restrictions, divisions, and absurdities of our everyday lives, that feels like a burning itch。 Channeled through this primal scream in literary form。 He does write at the beginning none of the book reflects upon the author himself - this seems to be more a way to avoid any legal trouble and outrage by easily triggered people。 You can feel the tension, the raw emotion brimming through the words - I think this is both because he does write well, but also because those emotions are very real, if exaggerated。 It's a bit hard to make out what's meant sincerely and what isn't。 Given he calls it a dark comedy but also seems to be, or at least attempting to, write earnestly at certain parts。 So it's this peculiar blend, a kind of satiric hyperrealism, and what seem like semi-sincere rants on how we need to overthrow the modern world, "sluts" and stuff。 It does often come across overly lofty and pompous - but I did enjoy the sting。 Above all, I think it gives a glimpse into the mind of a young disillusioned man, a wild and fascinating character study - fiction or not。 One who probably speaks on behalf of many, or a certain subgroup。 Who gives a voice to this formless, latent and hard to define unease, a sense that something isn't quite right, that many feel - and which is ignored by even more。 It might be concrete at times but the vastness behind it is hard to trace。The book seems more like an attempt to reach personal closure and serve as an emotional, creative outlet rather than being any serious, well thought through comment on whatever world affairs - though he does give away some tidbits that are quite true。 I think he makes that clear himself, and as such it works pretty well。 Mike is definitely a talented writer and interesting guy and I look forward to reading book 2 and seeing how he has developed。 。。。more

The only negative reviews on this book were either left by women over thirty, or greasy redditors。 That should tell you everything you want to know。

post-ironic american psycho, but less well written, but more interesting and funnier?i have zero ethical qualms with this book or the content or the author, who i literally know nothing about, i bought this sight unseen from a recommendation on an alt-lit instagram page lol。my problems with this book are more existential i guess。 because devoting your life to “eco-terrorism” is just as fucking pathetic as devoting your life to a desk job。 sorry。 this is the work of an author as well as a narrato post-ironic american psycho, but less well written, but more interesting and funnier?i have zero ethical qualms with this book or the content or the author, who i literally know nothing about, i bought this sight unseen from a recommendation on an alt-lit instagram page lol。my problems with this book are more existential i guess。 because devoting your life to “eco-terrorism” is just as fucking pathetic as devoting your life to a desk job。 sorry。 this is the work of an author as well as a narrator completely detached from the stream of life and of living。 abhorrent, and not even compelling in any sense。 just sad。this is like the geometric converse of that pathetic and deeply saddening new bo burnham special。 people who believe in revolution and depression are stupid, or maybe just deeply unsettled or highly lost 。。。more

funny some of the stuff wasn't new, maybe when it was written it was a little more new, but it's funny being that part of twitter and seeing all these overarching themes of diet, beauty, and et cetera。 with what is going on in the news it does beg the question of how do you protect yourself from the system? Tough to rate。 Like if Patrick Bateman lurked on \pol\ and was more interested in primitivism and right wing ideology。 I vacillated between really understanding and agreeing with the sentiments, but the methods and uhhh cultural thoughts were not level with myself。 Interesting read, I'm sorry I will have no one to discuss this with personally。 Tough to rate。 Like if Patrick Bateman lurked on \pol\ and was more interested in primitivism and right wing ideology。 I vacillated between really understanding and agreeing with the sentiments, but the methods and uhhh cultural thoughts were not level with myself。 Interesting read, I'm sorry I will have no one to discuss this with personally。 。。。more

A better version of American Psycho, made flush with incoherent babble and intellectually dubious ramblings。 Once every five to ten pages you get a nice bit of poetry that slices open your heart with the precision and care of a slow, steaming knife。 It’s worth the money to buy the book just for these brief interludes in between lofty accelerationist daydreams。 Mike Ma made me laugh more than any other author that I could remember。 He also puts to words certain things that most anti modernists do A better version of American Psycho, made flush with incoherent babble and intellectually dubious ramblings。 Once every five to ten pages you get a nice bit of poetry that slices open your heart with the precision and care of a slow, steaming knife。 It’s worth the money to buy the book just for these brief interludes in between lofty accelerationist daydreams。 Mike Ma made me laugh more than any other author that I could remember。 He also puts to words certain things that most anti modernists do not have the mental capacity to compose。 These things appear infrequently。 。。。more

An angry ethnocentric 20-something is really mad that most people in the world are stupid。 But being powerless (as most 20-year-olds are) and not having his superiority of intellect recognized by anyone, he feels an urge to assert his specialness via working out and violence。 And by idealizing times past and "nature"。 I understand the sentiment and am sure he'll feel more at ease in the world when he matures a bit, which is going to make him 1) realize that there are tons of very intelligent peo An angry ethnocentric 20-something is really mad that most people in the world are stupid。 But being powerless (as most 20-year-olds are) and not having his superiority of intellect recognized by anyone, he feels an urge to assert his specialness via working out and violence。 And by idealizing times past and "nature"。 I understand the sentiment and am sure he'll feel more at ease in the world when he matures a bit, which is going to make him 1) realize that there are tons of very intelligent people in the world (though granted they're not in his midst) and 2) he gets his fair share of success and stability in the world (and less testosterone), which usually happens after 35。 His life might have a less happy ending if his paranoia gets out of hand, which doesn't seem unlikely given how it currently already shapes his life to a big extent。 。。。more

Read the first half of this book on a beautiful beach in Mexico, totally removed from the filth and decay of everyday modern life。 By the end of that session the sky had darkened in my mind and I felt spiritual bile rising somewhere in me, I wanted to break something for no reason and eat a bloody steak。 Once that passed i just felt nauseous, which is basically the state i would return to as i finished the book up over the next few days。 Mike Ma really created something important in this book, e Read the first half of this book on a beautiful beach in Mexico, totally removed from the filth and decay of everyday modern life。 By the end of that session the sky had darkened in my mind and I felt spiritual bile rising somewhere in me, I wanted to break something for no reason and eat a bloody steak。 Once that passed i just felt nauseous, which is basically the state i would return to as i finished the book up over the next few days。 Mike Ma really created something important in this book, even if I can’t totally get on board with his more wignat-ish tendencies (a characterization he would likely resent) i still think the remorseless view into the darkest recesses of an young and angry white male mind is vital in our current climate。 Only the most soulless of bugs will fail to see the value in this work。 I probably won’t ever read it again but I’m certainly glad I did the once。 I really think it deserves 3。5 stars but erring on the side of overrating because i think the book deserves the attention。 。。。more
