Summary

A look into the history of global warming, and the domino effect down to minute organisms。 With every rise in temperature, what happens? This book does not seek to tell young readers what they need to do, but to tell stories such that they will take on this knowledge as their own, and their own impetus to make change。

The Change Makers series of books will build in children a
strong sense of inquiry — to arm them with knowledge in S。T。E。A。M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) to tackle this brave new world of unknowns。

I'm a huge fan of Hwee Goh and David Liew's Change Maker series, having read the first book (Invisible Enemies) on the current pandemic and second (Railroads to Superhighways) on the evolution of communications。 The Earth Experiment, the newly released third book of the series, cannot be a more timely read with climate change being one of the most pressing issues of our times。The series is suitable for children 8 years and up but I think adults would find it engaging as well。 I appreciate how th I'm a huge fan of Hwee Goh and David Liew's Change Maker series, having read the first book (Invisible Enemies) on the current pandemic and second (Railroads to Superhighways) on the evolution of communications。 The Earth Experiment, the newly released third book of the series, cannot be a more timely read with climate change being one of the most pressing issues of our times。The series is suitable for children 8 years and up but I think adults would find it engaging as well。 I appreciate how this series conveys important issues succintly and accurately, with easy-to-understand writing and humourous illustrations。 On The Earth Experiment, my 8-year-old, Little E, says, "The illustrations are very cute and funny。 There are many interesting facts in there。 I did not know that countries with abundant land bury their incinerated waste in landfills, but space is running out。 From this, I learn that we should recycle and not buy things unnecessarily so we do not generate so much waste。"The message in The Earth Experiment is clear and urgent。 As the author says, we need to build our own circle of impact and create a butterfly effect on climate change。 。。。more

Finally, a book that succinctly explains what climate change and global warming are, and what we can or must do to redress the wrongs。 I learnt more from this book than all of the factual papers and opinion articles I have read on the topics, simply because it allowed me to construct a coherent framework of beginning-middle-and where we are now。 Hwee Goh's ability to condense and summarise key points in an easy-to-read and understand format, in addition to David Liew's cute illustrations and fun Finally, a book that succinctly explains what climate change and global warming are, and what we can or must do to redress the wrongs。 I learnt more from this book than all of the factual papers and opinion articles I have read on the topics, simply because it allowed me to construct a coherent framework of beginning-middle-and where we are now。 Hwee Goh's ability to condense and summarise key points in an easy-to-read and understand format, in addition to David Liew's cute illustrations and funny humour, made this a very pleasant read indeed。 。。。more

A beautiful compact hardcover book, the third in the Change Makers series for youth, which is an excellent handbook on climate change for those aged 7 and up。 Previously having only a sketchy knowledge of climate change gleaned from various news reports, I learnt a lot from The Earth Experiment too, with its up-to-date information on the math and science of climate change。 Every full-colour glossy page is chock full of interesting facts and humorous side quips (love the three blind mice who are A beautiful compact hardcover book, the third in the Change Makers series for youth, which is an excellent handbook on climate change for those aged 7 and up。 Previously having only a sketchy knowledge of climate change gleaned from various news reports, I learnt a lot from The Earth Experiment too, with its up-to-date information on the math and science of climate change。 Every full-colour glossy page is chock full of interesting facts and humorous side quips (love the three blind mice who are such a big part of this series!), all presented in easy to read nuggets。Inspired by the call to action at the end too, to plan out how I can reduce my own carbon footprint。 I decided to go one step further and search online about how I can be carbon negative! 。。。more

Early pioneers in climate science were on to this issue a few hundred years ago。 The thing about global warming is the science is fairly straightforward, but the politics and solutions so complex。This book seeks to engage young readers who’ve been born into a world already in climate change。 The stories are curated to layer on a knowledge of the physics and chemistry of global warming’s impact on the earth, while the art by David Liew makes this knowledge so accessible。 This’ll be the greatest g Early pioneers in climate science were on to this issue a few hundred years ago。 The thing about global warming is the science is fairly straightforward, but the politics and solutions so complex。This book seeks to engage young readers who’ve been born into a world already in climate change。 The stories are curated to layer on a knowledge of the physics and chemistry of global warming’s impact on the earth, while the art by David Liew makes this knowledge so accessible。 This’ll be the greatest geo-engineering experiment of our lifetime。 Are you ready for this climate conversation? 。。。more
