Summary

When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman’s severed leg。

Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed。 There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible – and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality。

With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men。 But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them…

Career of Evil is the third in the series featuring private detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott。 A mystery and also a story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives。

I started this novel several times and couldn’t continue because of the gruesome and creepy nature of the story。 Things around me had to settle down before I could press forward with it and I’m so glad I circled back。 I just loved this book。 It broke my book block。 And the audio performance of this entire series is also reliably good。 The female main character of this series is the reason I read them。 We find out a lot more about Robin in this volume。 Everything I learned about her makes me love I started this novel several times and couldn’t continue because of the gruesome and creepy nature of the story。 Things around me had to settle down before I could press forward with it and I’m so glad I circled back。 I just loved this book。 It broke my book block。 And the audio performance of this entire series is also reliably good。 The female main character of this series is the reason I read them。 We find out a lot more about Robin in this volume。 Everything I learned about her makes me love her even more。 I may be picking up the fourth one pretty quickly。 But I bet it won’t be as good as this one was。 Creepy and disturbing, for sure, and even gross at times, but totally worth it, particularly if you’re a fan of Robin’s。 She is one hell of a woman and I can’t wait to see her growth in the fourth book。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

Engaging, fun book。 Not a 4 or 5 star story because I found Robin's lack of caution irritating。 I enjoy the stories, but it isn't 5 star literature。 That doesn't mean I won't look forward to reading the next in the series。 The Strike character is unique and likable。 Engaging, fun book。 Not a 4 or 5 star story because I found Robin's lack of caution irritating。 I enjoy the stories, but it isn't 5 star literature。 That doesn't mean I won't look forward to reading the next in the series。 The Strike character is unique and likable。 。。。more

Modern thriller writing at its best。 This was a great book with a superb blend of plot and character development combined with excellent changes in pace to deliver that page-turner quality that all good books have。

Just another great book by Robert Galbraith。 It continues to fascinate。 The ending was just a little quick for me。 Therefore not five but four stars。

。。more

Holy smokes。 Galbraith knows how to write a story。 In this Strike story, Robin is sent a body part and that kicks off (pun intended - read it and you'll see) a twisted and confusing investigation with a lot of moving pieces and characters。 On the heels of Strike's success with the Landry and Quine cases, the agency is picking up in business。 It's not so hand-to-mouth and that's a relief for Strike and for Robin, whose fiancé Matthew is disgruntled - to say the least - over her lack of financial Holy smokes。 Galbraith knows how to write a story。 In this Strike story, Robin is sent a body part and that kicks off (pun intended - read it and you'll see) a twisted and confusing investigation with a lot of moving pieces and characters。 On the heels of Strike's success with the Landry and Quine cases, the agency is picking up in business。 It's not so hand-to-mouth and that's a relief for Strike and for Robin, whose fiancé Matthew is disgruntled - to say the least - over her lack of financial contribution to their home life。 But the publicity over the Strike Agency receiving a body part doesn't do any favors for the potential clients and when a second body part shows up their business dries up。 It's clear someone is trying to send Strike a message and he's got four suspects in mind。 Even though the Met isn't taking his ideas seriously, Strike has a gut feeling and pursues his own line of inquiries。 Meanwhile, Robin and Matthew are getting closer to their wedding and plans are interfering with Robin's desire to work instead of plan a wedding。 Tensions are high between Matthew and Robin and Strike is trying to keep a low profile where they are concerned。 I am in awe of people like Galbraith who can dream up these storylines AND execute them in such a way that you forget it's fiction。 I feel like I'm repeating myself regarding this series。 It's SO GOOD。 Character development is on point and the storyline is engrossing。 I love that I completely forget that Galbraith is the author of Potter, they are both very different and very excellent。 I'm just in awe。 。。。more

Reread。 Five 🌟 again。 Very grisly though。

Very grisly While I like Robin and Comoran there are so much grisly murders as to make this book almost unreadable。 Too many body parts。

Wow! Career of Evil was one crazy ride of a mystery! It begins, more or less, with the arrival at Cormoran Strike’s detective agency of a package addressed to his assistant, Robin。 The package contains a woman’s severed leg。I had forgotten until I reread the blurb that there were actually four suspects to this mystery。 The police focus most of their attention on one who is a normal gangster-type criminal。 Cormoran is pretty sure it is someone else。 So, he focuses on three other people from his pa Wow! Career of Evil was one crazy ride of a mystery! It begins, more or less, with the arrival at Cormoran Strike’s detective agency of a package addressed to his assistant, Robin。 The package contains a woman’s severed leg。I had forgotten until I reread the blurb that there were actually four suspects to this mystery。 The police focus most of their attention on one who is a normal gangster-type criminal。 Cormoran is pretty sure it is someone else。 So, he focuses on three other people from his past。 These are people who have some kind of grudge against Cormoran。 It is pretty evident that, though the severed leg was sent to Robin, it was meant as a message to Cormoran。These three suspects all turn out to be a useless waste of space and resources。 You could have, as the saying goes, punished any one of them and not hit a lick amiss。 Based on evidence that accompanies the severed leg or turns up in addition to it, Cormoran thinks it likely that his stepfather is the culprit。 But any of the suspects is capable of doing horrible things。 And all of them do。We get a much more in-depth look at the earlier lives of both Robin and Cormoran in this book。 And Robin is beginning to take on a much more active role as an investigator。 Sometimes she goes a little too far and gets into trouble。 But, on the other hand, she has some brilliant ideas that advance the case quite a bit。 Robin is definitely one of my favorite detective characters of all time。Some of the other reviewers make much of the romantic interest between Robin and Cormoran in this book。 Robin indeed breaks up with her fiancé about halfway through the book for various reasons。 But the love interest between Cormoran and Robin seems to me to be at least as much like that between father and daughter as like that of lovers。 Possibly the best way to characterize it is something like what I once read about the relationship of a good secretary and her boss, which is that a good secretary will usually be a little bit in love with her boss – but not too much。The sender of the leg finally shows his hand and is revealed to be the same person who killed Cormoran’s mother。 But this person is not who Cormoran thought it was, and is not who I thought it would turn out to be either。The frequent reference to Blue Oyster Cult lyrics is interesting。 I found it especially so since my husband had just been listening to his Blue Oyster Cult collection just before I started listening to this book。 It appears that Cormoran’s mother was a huge Blue Oyster Cult fan, although she never succeeded in sleeping with any members of the group。 The narration on this was excellent。 It is difficult to imagine anybody else reading Robin and Cormoran。 。。。more

This was entertaining, suspenseful, and full of drama which I enjoyed。

This was the best of the three that I've read so far。 Much more suspenseful than Cuckoo's Calling, and, even though the villain is one dark fellow, a bit less cringy-creepy than Silkworm。 The Robin-Cormoran relationship remains the scene-stealing side plot。 This was the best of the three that I've read so far。 Much more suspenseful than Cuckoo's Calling, and, even though the villain is one dark fellow, a bit less cringy-creepy than Silkworm。 The Robin-Cormoran relationship remains the scene-stealing side plot。 。。。more

That was a great story。 And as i expected, i'll be dissapointed if the suspect is far from that 4 People。 But, kaboom! It was him all along。 And i very happy with the other plot twist except for the "who done it" thing。 And this story give me like strong bond between Strike and Robin, with their past, with their personal problem。 That's very cute and make me can't stop to know what happen after at each chapter。 That was a great story。 And as i expected, i'll be dissapointed if the suspect is far from that 4 People。 But, kaboom! 。。。more

I believe in Robin Ellacott supremacy!

2。5/5 stars。 I only read this book for Robin。 Y’all I suck at being able to predict the outcome of any book, especially a murder mystery, and I saw this ending come from a mile away。 Not worth it, don’t waste your time。
