Summary

When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide。 However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case。 A war veteran, wounded both physically and psychologically, Strike's life is in disarray。 The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model's complex world, the darker things get - and the closer he gets to terrible danger。

A gripping, elegant mystery steeped in the atmosphere of London - from the hushed streets of Mayfair, to the backstreet pubs of the East End, to the bustle of Soho - The Cuckoo's Calling is a remarkable debut。 Introducing Cormoran Strike, it is a classic crime novel unlike any other book you will read this year。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 The mystery was meh。 The writing was good。 I will finish the series just to see if they get together and to see if Rowling will write the sex scene in。

Loved it。 Cormoran and Robin are great characters and a great duo; the mystery was engaging and the ending a surprise; and the book was very well written。 Looking forward to reading the next one。

For a book written by a woman, the main character has an odd and off-putting fixation with women's bodies。 It felt like the author was trying too hard to be not-JK Rowling and write an adult male's perspective。 Also, the main female protagonist, Robin, didn't seem to have any real purpose。 Honestly, the TV series was better。 The mystery was well-thought out, though。 For a book written by a woman, the main character has an odd and off-putting fixation with women's bodies。 It felt like the author was trying too hard to be not-JK Rowling and write an adult male's perspective。 Also, the main female protagonist, Robin, didn't seem to have any real purpose。 Honestly, the TV series was better。 The mystery was well-thought out, though。 。。。more

I really, really wanted to like this book, since it was JKR and a mystery, but 5 hours into a road trip while listening to it, I had to finally call it quits。 I just couldn’t stay interested in it。 I may try it again at a later date, but for now, that’s a no for me, dawg。

The Cuckoo's Calling By Robert Galbraith。Let's get this out of the way right at the start I have never and wouldn't read the Harry Potter books this genre holds no interest for me, so when I found out that J。K Rowling had wrote five books under a pseudo name My interest was piqued。 Crime books are My go to novels I love Michael Connelly and the Bosch series I love reading the fine details of how our detective works out the clues interviews his subjects and then brings it all together right at th The Cuckoo's Calling By Robert Galbraith。Let's get this out of the way right at the start I have never and wouldn't read the Harry Potter books this genre holds no interest for me, so when I found out that J。K Rowling had wrote five books under a pseudo name My interest was piqued。 Crime books are My go to novels I love Michael Connelly and the Bosch series I love reading the fine details of how our detective works out the clues interviews his subjects and then brings it all together right at the end whilst I try to work out the killer in My poor attempts at being the said Detective and what has been written here in the Cuckoo's Calling is Steller this is crime at its very best。This book has it all with it's Drama, superb plotting, and fantastic Characters and a splattering of good humor thrown in for good measure。Cormoran Strike is written beautifully and his sidekick of Robin are a delight to spend time with never once was I bored around them the chemistry that evolves over the pages is a pleasure to read。The book is describe as a mystery thriller but I would disagree this is a true detective story and a super whodunit it's slow and methodical and that's deliberate by the Author as he/she lets us soak up the atmosphere of the settings and fall in love with it's characters, if you want action and gun play and thrills then this is not the book for you I suggest you look elsewhere。I followed the clues throughout the book and I never got close to guessing the end result and I commend the author for this, the book is superbly written with London being one of it's many characters and as I reside in said location the author has it nailed down I felt like I was walking with Strike as he limped his way across London Town。I have since been and purchased the other 4 books in the series and look fwd。 to reading those this is Crime written at its absolute best an outstanding book。I feel that the book has had some bashing with people thinking they are going to get a new Potter but that's your misgivings and why it was wrote under the Pseudo name so that one could distance themselves from that genre, as this is not Magical or whimsical it's gritty nasty crime。 Well worth your time and hard-earned cash an absolutely outstanding read。 。。。more

This was amazing! The plot and the mystery were so well written and each character was so complex and intriguing。 It did take a little while to pick up speed but by the end of the novel it was brilliantly fast paced! The scenes with Robin in them were the best and the interactions between her and Strike honestly made the novel。 This was written by J。 K Rowling under a pseudonym and is honestly some of her best work。 I can’t wait to read the next in the series。

Pretty slow to start and I couldn’t get behind the unnecessary adjectives and descriptions。 But when I learned that it was written by JK Rowling - I somehow missed this when I chose this book to read - it kind of made more sense。 There were a few ways in which she described POC that was so not ok imo。 However, I was committed to finishing the book as I really wanted to discover who did it。 And then was incredibly disappointed with the big reveal of whodunnit。 I did enjoy Strike and Robin as char Pretty slow to start and I couldn’t get behind the unnecessary adjectives and descriptions。 But when I learned that it was written by JK Rowling - I somehow missed this when I chose this book to read - it kind of made more sense。 There were a few ways in which she described POC that was so not ok imo。 However, I was committed to finishing the book as I really wanted to discover who did it。 And then was incredibly disappointed with the big reveal of whodunnit。 I did enjoy Strike and Robin as characters and even though this is a pitiful review, I’d probably read another story about these two solving a new mystery。 。。。more
