4。7/5I honestly loved this book and it achieved so much as the sequel to Delirium。 My only knockoff were how certain events unfolded or were explained。 Still, can't wait to read the last in the series! 4。7/5I honestly loved this book and it achieved so much as the sequel to Delirium。 My only knockoff were how certain events unfolded or were explained。 Still, can't wait to read the last in the series! 。。。more

Even though the first one was just like Matched, at least this one was unique

DNF When I finished Delerium, I gave it 5 stars (now 4 stars)。 That was under the impression that this sequel wouldn’t leave me hanging and would be just as good。 But at about 30%, I DNF the sequel, and finalized my decision when I checked out spoilers and was disappointed by how the plot would unfold and end。 Such a bummer since this first book was so good!

3。5/5 starsSo Pandemonium is told much differently than Delirium, which initially I was confused…but as I look back, I really shouldn’t have been。 We are still reading Lena’s perspective, but we alternate each chapter between two different times, “Then” and “Now”。 “Then” takes over where Delirium ends after Lena crosses into the Wilds。 We learn more about living in the Wilds, meet the new characters, and begin to understand the dynamics of survival in the Wilds。 We don’t get to learn a lot about 3。5/5 starsSo Pandemonium is told much differently than Delirium, which initially I was confused…but as I look back, I really shouldn’t have been。 We are still reading Lena’s perspective, but we alternate each chapter between two different times, “Then” and “Now”。 “Then” takes over where Delirium ends after Lena crosses into the Wilds。 We learn more about living in the Wilds, meet the new characters, and begin to understand the dynamics of survival in the Wilds。 We don’t get to learn a lot about these new characters, but enough to get the ball rolling。 “Now” is several months later, set in New York, where Lena is working ‘undercover’ on the inside of a anti-deliria organization, the DFA。 Here, we meet Julian。 The son of the leader of this anti-deliria organization, who wants the cure。There’s a whole lot of action, and plenty of twists。 The way the novel is set up allows you to see Lena progress as a character。 Many of the chapters end with mini ‘cliff-hangers’ provoking you to read more to find out what happens next。 I left Delirium fully behind the relationship between Lena and Alex, just to have it ripped away。 Alex is dead and that’s it。 I think thats where the disconnect happened for me。 I never felt I got closure upon losing Alex。 However, that being said, we meet Julian and we see the relationship between him and Lena beginning to blossom through the trials and tribulations that they experience…and well if you read the ending, you know the dilemma I now have with this relationship as well。 Oliver is a talented author, pinning you down when you least expect it。 I did really like this novel and am excited to get into the third installment of the series, what didn’t do it for me, was the disconnect I felt between the first and second novels。 。。。more

I gave this three stars as opposed to the five stars that I gave to Delirium as it was a slight disappointment from the first book, I thought that it dragged on a bit and honestly I rushed through this book just so that I could finish it and be done with the trilogy。 I still loved the protagonist and the journey that she went on but honestly I just wanted the story to end。 Not what I expected to read when I finished the first book and started this one。

Compared to the first book of this series, improvements were made。Firstly, I liked Lena's character a lot more。 She has gone through some major development trying to prove herself, and come out stronger on the other side。 I also liked Julian (better than Alex), because he had an actual personality - the dynamic between him and Lena was fun, I liked seeing the girl rescuing the boy for once。As for the writing, I enjoyed that the story switches between the present and the past。 However, it felt li Compared to the first book of this series, improvements were made。Firstly, I liked Lena's character a lot more。 She has gone through some major development trying to prove herself, and come out stronger on the other side。 I also liked Julian (better than Alex), because he had an actual personality - the dynamic between him and Lena was fun, I liked seeing the girl rescuing the boy for once。As for the writing, I enjoyed that the story switches between the present and the past。 However, it felt like there was a chunk missing where the two plot lines are supposed to connect, which was off-putting。 (view spoiler)[Where was the moment when Lena decides she wants to join the resistance and they start their mission? (hide spoiler)]Now, some stuff I didn't like:First and foremost, the world-building。 I already criticized this in the first book, but it annoyed me even more this time。 Once again, who decided love was a disease, and what was the reason??? We see multiple times that the society they live in isn't very rich and prosperous (they have to ration electricity and gas, they can't travel), so who benefits from this? We meet the official bad guys in this book, which would have been a good opportunity to explain some of these questions, but I'm still as lost as before。Moreover, the storyline of the resistance feels underdeveloped。 In the beginning of the first book, they officially don't even exist, and a couple months later, they are so well-organized that they are a serious threat to the government。 Maybe Lena is an unreliable narrator in that regard, but it just felt inconsistent。The plot was fine。 There were some twists and turns, but they didn't really evoke an reaction in me。 They just happened, and I accepted them。In general, I feel like the premise of this series offers so much potential for heartbreak and emotions, but it just doesn't deliver。 Take Raven for example: she's one of the good guys, who fight for free love, but she rarely shows affection towards other people。 I get that she protects herself and has a hard shell or whatever, but what's the point of fighting for love, when we don't even see these characters loving each other? Where are the deep human connections, the feelings that they are all risking their lives for?Exploring and showing the different types of love would have heightened the emotions a lot, which would have made me much more invested in the plot。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This was a nice bridge between the other two books, but it was okay。 It felt kinda slow, but the first half of the last chapter felt kinda fucked up。 Then there’s the whole love triangle thing, and I’m just kinda over it。 I’ll still read the next book, but the love triangle thing is throwing me off。

Lauren Oliver is an amazing author。 I finished both Delirium and Pandemonium in less than 48 hours each because, unlike other authors, Lauren keeps each page in the books very interesting and exciting。The cliff hanger ending left my emotions so overwhelmed。 (view spoiler)[What's going to happen to Lena and Julian? What's going to happen to Lena and Alex? Is Lena going to realize that Alex is truly her other half? Good follow up to the first in the series。 While it was entertaining it didn't however go the way I might have wanted and I found the time-shift method of narration a little confusing at first。 The pacing is faster in this one and there's a lot of thriller-type twists but still I found the first novel to be more engaging。 Let's see how the third one holds up then。 Good follow up to the first in the series。 While it was entertaining it didn't however go the way I might have wanted and I found the time-shift method of narration a little confusing at first。 The pacing is faster in this one and there's a lot of thriller-type twists but still I found the first novel to be more engaging。 Let's see how the third one holds up then。 。。。more
