I’m glad this was called Urban Tantra as a lot of other readers pointed out this is kind of a entry level intro to tantra and it’s teachings。 Easy to digest info with a lot of great insight。

Really great progression in the book to introduce you to the topic and guide you through not only some history of tantra but this current version of it。 I appreciate the author’s note that this is not tantra as it was originally practiced -hence the name “urban” in the book but I like that she pays credit where it’s due。 My only complaint that there is SO much information I do feel I need to go back over it again and again to really get it。 But i’m sure practice will help with that too!

Title and book cover is misleading because this book is all about breathing, Chakra and meditation。

I really thought I'd love this - but aside from eye contact and breathing advice it fell a bit flat for me。 interesting stories, though。 I really thought I'd love this - but aside from eye contact and breathing advice it fell a bit flat for me。 interesting stories, though。 。。。more

This is a good intro into tantric practices without the full spiritual path for those coming from an urban kink background。 I really found it insightful as a cis gender about positive body images and naming body parts that feel aligned。 This helped me understand the spiritual side of tantra without having to feel too unfamiliar with the Indian roots。 At the end, I feel I can now dive deeper with more spiritual and less kinky but either way, this is a great read with another or really alone is so This is a good intro into tantric practices without the full spiritual path for those coming from an urban kink background。 I really found it insightful as a cis gender about positive body images and naming body parts that feel aligned。 This helped me understand the spiritual side of tantra without having to feel too unfamiliar with the Indian roots。 At the end, I feel I can now dive deeper with more spiritual and less kinky but either way, this is a great read with another or really alone is some of the best tantric experiences, which Barbara really emphasizes。 。。。more

One of the most practical, straightforward, and enjoyable books on contemporary tantra (i。e。 westernised tantra) you'll find。 Those looking for something more in-depth or authentic to traditional tantra will probably find it quite disappointing and frustrating。 But, for the beginner tantrika, or people who just want to enhance their sex lives and/or overall wellbeing, this is an excellent starting point that gives a good introduction to these practices and philosophies。 One of the most practical, straightforward, and enjoyable books on contemporary tantra (i。e。 westernised tantra) you'll find。 Those looking for something more in-depth or authentic to traditional tantra will probably find it quite disappointing and frustrating。 But, for the beginner tantrika, or people who just want to enhance their sex lives and/or overall wellbeing, this is an excellent starting point that gives a good introduction to these practices and philosophies。 。。。more

Found it and gave to a couple close to me at a time。 A bit "divinified", for some good as a starter。 Even if not all of info there is to the point to me。 Definately better than porn as for sex education。 Found it and gave to a couple close to me at a time。 A bit "divinified", for some good as a starter。 Even if not all of info there is to the point to me。 Definately better than porn as for sex education。 。。。more

A really, exceptionally good introduction to Tantra that truly makes it feel accessible to anyone interested。 Goes well beyond a how-to book, and is amazingly inclusive。 Definitely going to be reading all other books by this wonderful author。

There are aspects of this book that are interesting and useful, especially about turning foreplay into a ritual。 But there are other aspects that are just too far out for me, for example, group sex。All that said, the author maintains a website that has a list of good resources, which I intend to explore and try to better understand。

Neo-tantra is not tantra。

Absolutely get the newer edition of this book。 But even if you are Not Particularly Woo and/or if you are Skeptical of Western Tantra, this book is full of useful practices and frameworks and there should be something in it both for uninitiated the experienced somatic/sexual explorer。 A good deal of it was familiar to me from the author's wonderful workshops, but having it presented as a book to think on and practice at home was nevertheless valuable。 Absolutely get the newer edition of this book。 But even if you are Not Particularly Woo and/or if you are Skeptical of Western Tantra, this book is full of useful practices and frameworks and there should be something in it both for uninitiated the experienced somatic/sexual explorer。 A good deal of it was familiar to me from the author's wonderful workshops, but having it presented as a book to think on and practice at home was nevertheless valuable。 。。。more

Getting out of my head and into my body has been a constant struggle for me in many aspects of life。 This book has helped transform my sexuality from trauma and flashback filled to having the tools to reclaim my body and sexual pleasure as my own。 I grew up being shamed and feeling guilty for any sexual desires and even years after leaving mormonism I still find myself struggling to be at peace with how I experience pleasure。 This book breaks down why sex can be sacred outside of any religion--g Getting out of my head and into my body has been a constant struggle for me in many aspects of life。 This book has helped transform my sexuality from trauma and flashback filled to having the tools to reclaim my body and sexual pleasure as my own。 I grew up being shamed and feeling guilty for any sexual desires and even years after leaving mormonism I still find myself struggling to be at peace with how I experience pleasure。 This book breaks down why sex can be sacred outside of any religion--god has no place in my bedroom。 The book is full of practices, breathing techniques, and new ideas for how people can enjoy their own and their partners' bodies。 I have absolutely loved experiencing the practices this book has to offer as both as an individual and with my partners。 I encourage everyone who struggles with sexual pleasure to pick it up and give it a go。 Even if you already enjoy most of your sexual encounters, everyone could learn a thing or two from reading this。 I plan to keep this book around for a long time--while I may be healing, I still have a lot of work to do and this book has been a huge help in allowing me to find that healing。 。。。more

Some good ideas, others I couldn’t wrap my head around。 Will definitely work to be more conscious during sex。

Excellent。 Tantra for city girls/boys/everything elses。 How to harness sexuality and use it for spiritual purposes (and also just joy) in our ordinary lives。Very practical。 Great exercises。 Only been practicing with her tips a bit so far, but already see great results。I think she goes a bit overboard with her emphasis on safer sex, but then again - that probably also depends on the setting。

It was ok。 It seems to be a lot of work。 Give you a good sense of sex, vibrators, and needs。 How to get what you want from the beginning。

Queer friendly Many book, especially yogic, spiritual text aren’t friendly to trans/non-binary identities。 I read this book as a suggestion from someone else about its ability to find power in gender and tools for euphoria sexually。 With lots of great tools, it is very much that。

Excellent introductory-level book。 Covers everything from the ground up。 Fun writing style。 Very gender-neutral and inclusive of non-binary folks。Personally, I've been on this path for a long time, I felt like I didn't learn anything new or surprising。 The contents became exponentially more interesting near the end (Parts 4/5 Tantra&BDSM, and Sex Magic)。 Excellent introductory-level book。 Covers everything from the ground up。 Fun writing style。 Very gender-neutral and inclusive of non-binary folks。Personally, I've been on this path for a long time, I felt like I didn't learn anything new or surprising。 The contents became exponentially more interesting near the end (Parts 4/5 Tantra&BDSM, and Sex Magic)。 。。。more

DNF。 I tried, but turns out this was just not for me and the way it was written didn't help。 Far too much mystical blah, the practical stuff made too many assumptions, and I'm sure there must be better versions of this information out there somewhere。 On the plus side, the author did her best to be inclusive, which was pretty refreshing。 DNF。 I tried, but turns out this was just not for me and the way it was written didn't help。 Far too much mystical blah, the practical stuff made too many assumptions, and I'm sure there must be better versions of this information out there somewhere。 On the plus side, the author did her best to be inclusive, which was pretty refreshing。 。。。more

Informative and interesting。 Not as accessible or applicable for disabled people or non-binary people as I think the author thinks it is but the effort is appreciated。

I think this book sets out with good intentions but overall lacks focus, relevance and insight。 It also veers so far towards Urban that I'm not sure if it's even vaguely 'Tantric'。 I didn't manage to find much that was useful。 I think this book sets out with good intentions but overall lacks focus, relevance and insight。 It also veers so far towards Urban that I'm not sure if it's even vaguely 'Tantric'。 I didn't manage to find much that was useful。 。。。more
