This book has some places that hit close to home, with painful and specific descriptions that will make you nauseous, or angry, or dizzy。 One or two seem over the top but in general, a good story and it kept me interested the whole way through。

This book was recommended to me, so I decided to give it a shot。 It took me a while to read because I found it quite slow at times。In regards to the controversy surrounding it, it’s definitely disappointing that James Frey would fabricate details of his story and try to pass it off as truth。 However, I went into this book with the mindset of it being a memoir with some fictional elements and I enjoyed it。 My major complaint is the writing style is extremely hard to understand。 The lack of punctu This book was recommended to me, so I decided to give it a shot。 It took me a while to read because I found it quite slow at times。In regards to the controversy surrounding it, it’s definitely disappointing that James Frey would fabricate details of his story and try to pass it off as truth。 However, I went into this book with the mindset of it being a memoir with some fictional elements and I enjoyed it。 My major complaint is the writing style is extremely hard to understand。 The lack of punctuation of any kind is confusing and it it makes the story harder to follow。 Society dehumanizes addicts and this book humanizes them。 We learn about their struggles and we learn that while doing drugs may be a choice, the people in this book are being controlled by their addictions and not the other way around。 I find that I now have more understanding and compassion for those struggling with addiction。"The life of the Addict is always the same。 There is no excitement, no glamour, no fun。 There are no good times, there is no joy, there is no happiness。 There is no future and no escape。 There is only an obsession。" 。。。more

Bad marketing, good story。

DNF at page 51。 The way this book is set up without any paragraphs or distinction between speakers is a nightmare。 Honestly I think it was lazy of the publishers to leave it like this。

Kate

What a masterfully written piece。 The style is so unique and pulls you in。 I did slow down midway thru and struggle to stay through the experience of rehab。 Regardless, an important story to share。

Amy

I couldn’t finish this book

Lexie

Loved this book, however, when characters speak there are no quotations, which can make it difficult to interpret who is speaking。

Enjoyed it。 The ending made me cry。

Such a great book! I loved how real and raw everything was。 Addiction runs in my family。 My mother and grandmother owned and operated an out patient facility and hearing these stories (even as sad as some/most are) they really hit home。

Fabrizio Ori

A love story in rehab, beautifully told。 Sadly not entirely based on true events but highly recommended。

Leanne

Fast paced, raw and honest。 Love it。

An inspirational read for all those in different walk of lives struggling or not。 It connects the reader through its engaging narrative and visual imagery。 I'd like to qoute, ' Sometimes skulls are thick。 Sometimes hearts are vacant。 Sometimes words don't work。'- James Frey An inspirational read for all those in different walk of lives struggling or not。 It connects the reader through its engaging narrative and visual imagery。 I'd like to qoute, ' Sometimes skulls are thick。 Sometimes hearts are vacant。 Sometimes words don't work。'- James Frey 。。。more

Apparently a lot of it wasn't true。 It was still pretty engaging。 Apparently a lot of it wasn't true。 It was still pretty engaging。 。。。more

Fraud and Lies。But brilliant writing non less should have been perhaps published as an Auto-fiction rather than a memoir。

Its an interesting book。 The story doesnt sound exaggerated at all, seems very real (obviously for being a memoir) i really enjoyed it。 Looking forward to read the next one

Katie

Powerful true story。

Blech。 A) how did this ever fool anyone into thinking it was real? B) What a prat this guy was/is! I like my anti-heroes to be at least a little bit fun。 C) If you insist on putting yourself through this dreck listen to the audiobook; the lack of punctuation may seem arty but makes it incomprehensible。

So raw, so real, so descriptive。。。 I could visualize what he was experiencing。

Read it because it was HOT back then, and yet it didn't leave much of an impression on me。 But when James Frey got caught for not writing the entire book himself, I liked the intense Oprah interview much better than his book, where Oprah fussed at him for lying on her show when she sang his praises on his first interview with her。Then years later, there was a What Are They Doing Now episode, and JF was doing really well, and all was forgotten and forgiven。。。 Read it because it was HOT back then, and yet it didn't leave much of an impression on me。 But when James Frey got caught for not writing the entire book himself, I liked the intense Oprah interview much better than his book, where Oprah fussed at him for lying on her show when she sang his praises on his first interview with her。Then years later, there was a What Are They Doing Now episode, and JF was doing really well, and all was forgotten and forgiven。。。 。。。more

The best part of this book is how he was like it's a completely true story about my life and everyone was like omg!!! and then people found out somehow that it wasn't actually that real and he was like yeah。。。。 it's actually just mostly based on my life and I exaggerated many things and now everyone hates it The best part of this book is how he was like it's a completely true story about my life and everyone was like omg!!! and then people found out somehow that it wasn't actually that real and he was like yeah。。。。 it's actually just mostly based on my life and I exaggerated many things and now everyone hates it 。。。more

An Insightful LookThe author has really been “there” which makes the writing all the more compelling and true to those who have loved ones who suffer from addiction or are battling there own demons。 While I personally didn’t follow the AA method, similar to the author, it should be said that for many going the author’s route of eschewing AA, May make recovery a very difficult, if not impossible, road to travel。

It seemed to take forever to get through A Million Little Pieces and I was beginning to think I’d never reach the end! It was a fascinating insight into the life of an addict and the road to his recovery and James Frey was brutally honest about his experiences。 I particularly liked that he threw humour into the mix too。 This is a good, honest book for those interested in addictions and their disastrous effects。 Just be warned; there’s a lot of blue language throughout。 It felt as if the message It seemed to take forever to get through A Million Little Pieces and I was beginning to think I’d never reach the end! i finished this book 2 days ago but i’ve been out of connection on a trip, and since i’m almost done with my next book i figure i should write my review before i forget everything about “a million little pieces”。 I’m giving this 3 stars NOT because of the content。 i’m giving it 3 stars bc of the controversy surrounding this author, which i didn’t find out until halfway through the book, and which made me extremely frustrated but allowed me to continue reading it as a work of FICTION。 This book w i finished this book 2 days ago but i’ve been out of connection on a trip, and since i’m almost done with my next book i figure i should write my review before i forget everything about “a million little pieces”。 I’m giving this 3 stars NOT because of the content。 i’m giving it 3 stars bc of the controversy surrounding this author, which i didn’t find out until halfway through the book, and which made me extremely frustrated but allowed me to continue reading it as a work of FICTION。 This book was gripping。 to me, it wasn’t even the story as a whole, but the ways that Taoist beliefs and mindsets were included!!! everything makes sense to me with these ideas, and using these beliefs as a type of healing for someone who had been majorly struggling is beautiful to me。 if you’re going to read this book, read about the author first to understand the context! it was a wonderful book to read, but remember, think of it as a work of fiction ;) 。 。。。more

Wow! Very sobering (pardon the pun) look at addiction and what it takes to get clean。 Frey has been criticized for fictionalizing his memoir, but aren't all memoirs fictionalized to some extent? Who remembers word for word with scientific accuracy conversations, sights, smells from our past? That's especially true when someone is under the influence of drugs and alcohol。 People say that Frey took things that he heard about in recovery and told as if they happened to him。 My feeling is that ficti Wow! Even though the book is not a memoir at all but a series of half-truths strung together by audacity, I would not say this is a very good memoir。 It's not bad, but the man is just a lying piece of shit。 Even though the book is not a memoir at all but a series of half-truths strung together by audacity, I would not say this is a very good memoir。 It's not bad, but the man is just a lying piece of shit。 。。。more
