Summary

A delightfully fun romantic comedy set in the world of fanfiction, in which a devoted fan goes on an unexpected date with her celebrity crush, who's secretly posting fanfiction of his own。 With romance, amazing chemistry, fandom, and body positivity, Spoiler Alert is perfect for fans of Talia Hibbert and Abby Jimenez。

Marcus Caster-Rupp has a secret。 While the world knows him as Aeneas, the star of the biggest show on TV, he's known to fanfiction readers as Book!AeneasWouldNever, an anonymous and popular poster。 Through his stories, Marcus is able to get out his own frustrations with his character, especially the ones that feature the internet's favourite couple to ship, Aeneas and Lavinia。 But if anyone ever found out about his online persona, he'd be fired。 Immediately。

April Whittier has secrets of her own。 A hardcore Lavinia fan, she's hidden her fanfiction and cosplay hobby from her 'real life' for years - but not anymore。 When she decides to post her latest Lavinia creation on Twitter, her photo goes viral。 Trolls and supporters alike are commenting on her plus-size take, but when Marcus sees her pic and asks her out on a date to spite her critics, she realises life is really stranger than fanfiction。

Even though their first date is a disaster, Marcus quickly realises that he wants much more from April than a one-time publicity stunt。 And when he discovers she's actually Unapologetic Lavinia Stan, his closest fandom friend, he has one more huge secret to hide from her。

With love and Marcus's career on the line, can the two of them stop hiding once and for all, or will a match made in fandom end up prematurely cancelled?

I really enjoyed this story。 It was heart warming and sweet。 Also, as a plus size girl myself, I felt emotional on a few scenes。 And appreciated the way certain things were worded and expressed。 Only others who, have been chubby their whole life, can understand the feeling of having to overcome what everyone else and society thinks and says is beauty, to be able to accept yourself as you are。 And I love the contrast of Marcus' own self doubt。 Even though he is physically beautiful, at society's I really enjoyed this story。 It was heart warming and sweet。 Also, as a plus size girl myself, I felt emotional on a few scenes。 And appreciated the way certain things were worded and expressed。 Only others who, have been chubby their whole life, can understand the feeling of having to overcome what everyone else and society thinks and says is beauty, to be able to accept yourself as you are。 And I love the contrast of Marcus' own self doubt。 Even though he is physically beautiful, at society's standards, he also has insecurities in other aspects of himself。 I love the way this was written, in both POVs and with little snippets of fan-fics and screenplays。 I am definitely looking forward to Alex's book。 。。。more

*3。5 stars, rounded upI enjoyed some aspects of this book a lot, and others I didn't so much。 I think the fandom representation was wonderful - and the casual way writing and talking about fanfic was written was so refreshing, as in some ways it can still be sort of a shameful, taboo thing (in some circles)。 The characters were good and had depth, but I suppose I wonder if this story wasn't trying to do too much at once。 Like I said, I enjoyed the story and it was definitely a good read, but I c *3。5 stars, rounded upI enjoyed some aspects of this book a lot, and others I didn't so much。 I think the fandom representation was wonderful - and the casual way writing and talking about fanfic was written was so refreshing, as in some ways it can still be sort of a shameful, taboo thing (in some circles)。 The characters were good and had depth, but I suppose I wonder if this story wasn't trying to do too much at once。 Like I said, I enjoyed the story and it was definitely a good read, but I can't help but think it felt a little busy。 If you're going into this expecting it to be simple, it definitely isn't。 。。。more

It only took me like a month but I finished it!! I have a lot of mixed feelings surrounding this book。 It tackled such hard topics with a care and thoughtfulness I truly have never seen。 It really made me think abt my own behavior (?) Made me realize hey maybe I shouldn't do that there r other ways to go abt doing things ya know。 For example,, active listening!! I need to be better at that! Like there was one part where Marcus was opening up to April and she was talking abt how she could be thinking abt different ways to defend herself/ respond but she recognized in that moment that she needed to give him his full attention while he was being so vulnerable。 I do that a lot lowkey think it's a defense- mechanism but hey we're human were growing and I needed that reminder to be like hey brain stop it fucken listen alright。 anywayyyyys this book is a love letter to the fan fiction community which sadly I still haven't gotten into so I felt disconnected from certain parts of the books。 Like I would skip over some of the little fanfiction stuff the author included and I felt so bad 😭。 I just wasn't interested。 lowkey felt like they were being a lil dramatic sometimes。 and the ending fell a bit flat。 I thought the epilogue was really cute tho!! and I'm not that much of an epilogue girl。 anyways those r all my thoughts ☝️。 WAIT ALSO I LOVE ALEX SO GODDAMN MUCH!!!! 。。。more

This was a super cute book that made me laugh out loud at certain parts。 I wish there was a wider cast in the story or that the secondary characters were more part of the action, but overall it was a fun read and I really enjoyed it!

I truly wish that I liked this more than I did。 The premise of the main character falling for the star of her favorite show who is also secretly her online best friend was really promising。 Cracking open the book and seeing that Olivia seems to poke at the MESS that was the final GOT season was another factor I really wanted to draw me in。 That being said I was never able to actually FEEL anything for these characters。 It wasn't that they lacked things that should make them interesting, it's jus I truly wish that I liked this more than I did。 The premise of the main character falling for the star of her favorite show who is also secretly her online best friend was really promising。 Cracking open the book and seeing that Olivia seems to poke at the MESS that was the final GOT season was another factor I really wanted to draw me in。 That being said I was never able to actually FEEL anything for these characters。 It wasn't that they lacked things that should make them interesting, it's just something about the way they were written, the way they interacted, etc that I just felt disconnected from。 Speaking of disconnection, I feel like the excerpts from the fanfics were kind of disconnected and didn't do much to drive the story。。。 Not to mention the lack of differentiation between different authors。 It was very hard to believe that these characters were close to 40 there was something a little juvenile about their characterizations。 I'm sad。 I wanted to love this but it was just。。。。 fine 。。。more

I’ve been reading a lot of romcoms lately and holy moly does representation matter。 I’ve enjoyed so so many of the romcoms I’ve read recently but I didn’t realize how much I need to read one that had a fat main character! Fuck Fatphobia! This was a fun, nerdy rom com page turner filled with FanFic love and side eye at Hollywood tropes (looking at you Manic Pixie Dream Girl)。 It pointed a wagging finger at Game of Thrones and how the show went catastrophically downhill once it outpaced the books (which I enjoyed!)。An easy, steamy, fun read for a long weekend。

Solid 3。5 stars。 Liked it。 It may be a weird review for a genre I mostly enjoy as escapist fantasy, but sometimes the characters just didn't feel real, they acted and spoke a little too much the way you wished people were rather than the way people are。 Kinda like watching a sitcom。 It was fun and quirky, but it always felt a little too neat and tidy。 Solid 3。5 stars。 Liked it。 It may be a weird review for a genre I mostly enjoy as escapist fantasy, but sometimes the characters just didn't feel real, they acted and spoke a little too much the way you wished people were rather than the way people are。 Kinda like watching a sitcom。 It was fun and quirky, but it always felt a little too neat and tidy。 。。。more

Finally, a book that answers the question: What if Nikolaj Coster-Waldau secretly wrote Game of Thrones fix-it fics and fell in love with his favorite fanfic writer? The premise for this book is so silly。 I’m a huge nerd who reads fanfic and goes to cons, but even I found parts of this a little too cringey。 The ONLY reason it works is because Marcus, the hot actor who writes fanfic for his own show, is a shy nerd with a traumatic past。 I was able to suspend my disbelief enough (but not all the wa Finally, a book that answers the question: What if Nikolaj Coster-Waldau secretly wrote Game of Thrones fix-it fics and fell in love with his favorite fanfic writer? The premise for this book is so silly。 I’m a huge nerd who reads fanfic and goes to cons, but even I found parts of this a little too cringey。 The ONLY reason it works is because Marcus, the hot actor who writes fanfic for his own show, is a shy nerd with a traumatic past。 I was able to suspend my disbelief enough (but not all the way) when I learned more about his layers。I did really like April even though she frustrated me at times。 As a fat woman I definitely identified with a lot of her insecurities, but even still I thought she was a little too quick in jumping to conclusions。 Also。。。why are you only writing fics for one terrible show? Expand your talents elsewhere, girl!!All the interstitial chats and fanfics were a lot of fun, even if they did give me secondhand embarrassment。 I enjoyed this book but don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone who doesn’t know what AO3 explicit tags are, lmao。 。。。more

I may never have read any fanfic in my life, but I’m a definite fan of this book。 Marcus is amazing。 Sometimes insecure but so intentional and kind - yes consent always。 And April is a great mixture of soft and tough too。 The way they stand together and apart is phenomenal。 Even when I had to google some contextual clues (pegging, lol), it was a fast and fully enjoyable read。

Real Rating: 4。5/5 ⭐️ Holy crap!!! How to describe a book that made me feel so seen。 I don’t know where to begin, all I do know is that reading this book forced me to think of how I have allowed others to treat me because of my weight。 I admired April and how she set her boundaries and didn’t budge, especially towards the end。 The scene of her talking to her mom about how she had been feeling gave me chills。 I know I will re-read this book just for that part。 I enjoyed Marcus and the complexity Real Rating: 4。5/5 ⭐️ Holy crap!!! This was an absolute delight to read! A clear tribute to FanFiction and the fans who created it。 Think Fangirl…but not written by a racist asshole。 Books like these make me feel proud to be a nerd ☺️

Amazing。 Wonderful。 Possibly one of the best books I’ve ever read。 Period。 I feel so seen—April’s insecurities to her finding community and support online。 I loved it all。 #OliviaDadeStan

This was a book I needed in my life so bad。 The second I heard 'fat positive romance' I snatched it up, being a plus size babe myself。 I adored it so much that I've read it twice and listened to the audio once。 I did actually relate to the story a little bit but only the plus size girl being with a tall skinny dude。 My fiance is a foot taller than me and quite smaller than me。 There's no hoodie stealing。 I used to write, not fanfic but more like keyboard rpg sites。 Not really sure what they're c This was a book I needed in my life so bad。 The second I heard 'fat positive romance' I snatched it up, being a plus size babe myself。 I adored it so much that I've read it twice and listened to the audio once。 I did actually relate to the story a little bit but only the plus size girl being with a tall skinny dude。 My fiance is a foot taller than me and quite smaller than me。 There's no hoodie stealing。 I used to write, not fanfic but more like keyboard rpg sites。 Not really sure what they're called。 I would love to cosplay but not yet brave enough。 I really saw myself in April so much it was crazy。 This was a wonderful story of overcoming stereotypes and family problems。 I will keep reading this book forever。 。。。more

But the secret is that they've known each other for two years in the fandom - Marcus writes fanfic to deal with stupid showrunner decisions。They both evolve over the story, both revealing more of their true selves to each other and to the world。 They both deal with pretty awful parents - April's parents get on her about her weight, Marcus' becauee they felt like her was never trying hard enough as a kid (he had dyslexia。。。)。 At the same time, Marcus has to deal with knowing his secret - that he's her fandom friend - could destroy his career and his relationship with April in one fell swoop。I laughed, I cried, I smiled a lot。 I'm not sure how much of this book would translate for anyone not familiar with fandom, but the inside jokes - they were *chef's kiss*Oh, and it's sufficiently smutty - just enough to make a point and not too much for this to be a porn without plot book。 Perfect。 。。。more

I honestly didn’t expect to love this book like I did。 And, really, as smutty as it was at times (I love the smut), this book went hard on healthy emotions, setting boundaries, and communication in relationships。 I’ve never read a better depiction of setting boundaries with parents and how hard that can be。 I loved the depiction of a man who was vulnerable and recognized his need for affirmation, acceptance, love and recognizing fears。 I don’t need chiseled; I just need real vulnerability 🔥 I lo I honestly didn’t expect to love this book like I did。 And, really, as smutty as it was at times (I love the smut), this book went hard on healthy emotions, setting boundaries, and communication in relationships。 I’ve never read a better depiction of setting boundaries with parents and how hard that can be。 I loved the depiction of a man who was vulnerable and recognized his need for affirmation, acceptance, love and recognizing fears。 I don’t need chiseled; I just need real vulnerability 🔥 I loved April as smart, intelligent and GORGEOUS。 Overall, well-done。 This will be re-read in the future for all the good feels。 。。。more
