Summary

Do you know how to play the game you're in?

In finite games, like football or chess, the players are known, the rules are fixed, and the endpoint is clear。 The winners and losers are easily identified。

In infinite games, like business or politics or life itself, the players come and go, the rules are changeable, and there is no defined endpoint。 There are no winners or losers in an infinite game; there is only ahead and behind。

The more I started to understand the difference between finite and infinite games, the more I began to see infinite games all around us。 I started to see that many of the struggles that organizations face exist simply because their leaders were playing with a finite mindset in an infinite game。 These organizations tend to lag behind in innovation, discretionary effort, morale and ultimately performance。

The leaders who embrace an infinite mindset, in stark contrast, build stronger, more innovative, more inspiring organizations。 Their people trust each other and their leaders。 They have the resilience to thrive in an ever-changing world, while their competitors fall by the wayside。 Ultimately, they are the ones who lead the rest of us into the future。

Any worthwhile undertaking starts with Why - the purpose, cause or belief that inspires us to do what we do and inspires others to join us。 Good leaders know how to build Circles of Safety that promote trust and cooperation throughout their organizations。 But that's not enough to help us chart a course through the unpredictable, often chaotic landscape of today's marketplace。

I now believe that the ability to adopt an infinite mindset is a prerequisite for any leader who aspires to leave their organization in better shape than they found it。

Sinek has a way of pointing out how the “norm” should be anything but。 He backs it up with good stories, research and insights。 If only more leaders agreed with his point of view。

Page turner just like all his other books。 Loved it。 Usually books that don't cite scientific studies but make a lot of confident claims drive me crazy。 Somehow, this author's never do。 Everything he says just clicks for me。 He interjects lots of examples to illustrate his points, stories from the real world in business and world events。 The only criticism I have is that it seems like he tried way too hard (and failed, imo) to distinguish his new concept of a "just cause" from the "why" that was Page turner just like all his other books。 Loved it。 Usually books that don't cite scientific studies but make a lot of confident claims drive me crazy。 Somehow, this author's never do。 Everything he says just clicks for me。 He interjects lots of examples to illustrate his points, stories from the real world in business and world events。 The only criticism I have is that it seems like he tried way too hard (and failed, imo) to distinguish his new concept of a "just cause" from the "why" that was the central theme of his "Start with Why" book。 It seemed to come down to the "why" is looking backward and the "just cause" is looking forward。 But everything I understood from his first TED talk and Start with Why was that its past, present, and future。 It felt like he was really stretching to try to make some kind of distinction but I thought it was totally unnecessary。。。 it's okay to just reuse a concept from a previous book。 That's a lot of words to describe my criticism but really it was minor。 Highly recommend this book。 。。。more

Some books makes you feel the inner joy upon realization that there are grand people walking the face of the earth。 Simon Sinek, the inspiring author of this book is such person。

Simon Sinek is an absolute leadership genius。 I LOVE his “Leaders Eat Last,” and “The Infinite Game” is an easy second。 Such great points behind mindset, rivals, cultures, and leading people well。

Started and ended strongThis book started strong, engrossing me in its stories and thought process about what is “infinite”, then about 25% into the book it slowed way down and I drudged through the next quarter of the book。 The last half of the book picked up again and finished strong。 A really solid book!

Simon has come to the party and written a well crafted tool for us to change how we not only run our institutions, but also how to live an infinite life。

A good idea is presented。 I have had high expectations due to popularity of "start with why" book。 In this book, the content is repetitive, tedious and boring at times。 Author has tried to build a book by joining different stories, however at times, it feels that it takes quite long to establish the point which is already standing there。 Also, I found the lack of flow, from one paragraph to next or from one chapter to next。 A good idea is presented。 I have had high expectations due to popularity of "start with why" book。 In this book, the content is repetitive, tedious and boring at times。 Author has tried to build a book by joining different stories, however at times, it feels that it takes quite long to establish the point which is already standing there。 Also, I found the lack of flow, from one paragraph to next or from one chapter to next。 。。。more

To be fair, my disillusionment from reading too many of these kinds of books should not affect an objective review。Sinek gets five stars from me for his ability to tie some complex concepts to catchy and memorable phrases, liking Apple as much as me and the next guy and finally his very well written, introspective Afterword。I like how he introduced himself as an optimist before bestselling author。 I like that he concluded by taking responsibility for his mistakes, and challenging the reader to u To be fair, my disillusionment from reading too many of these kinds of books should not affect an objective review。Sinek gets five stars from me for his ability to tie some complex concepts to catchy and memorable phrases, liking Apple as much as me and the next guy and finally his very well written, introspective Afterword。I like how he introduced himself as an optimist before bestselling author。 I like that he concluded by taking responsibility for his mistakes, and challenging the reader to use an infinite mindset in their personal life:“None of us want on our tombstones the last balance of our bank accounts…we want to be remembered for what we did for others。” 。。。more

Exceptional book - as usual from Simon SinekSinek challenges many of the conventional views and introduces valid alternative points - which may not be so unusual for his regular audience (at least this is the reason why we follow Sinek, true?)。 Still I am convinced that - though many may agree to his thinking (at least partially) - there will not be that many who successfully will live up to it: in full。

این کتاب مدیران کسب و کار را تشویق میکند که بلند مدت فکر کنند و دنبال سودهای کوتاه مدت و کارهای غیر اخلاقی نباشند

This books presents one (fresh) idea - that of how an infinite game mindset beats a finite game mindset in business。 The key here is that companies should not ”play to win” in a finite game, but adopt a mindset of an endless game, where situations and rivals change, but the game never ends。 Some key enablers of success in an infinite game include finding and living by a just cause, and nurturing trust (even over performance) within teams and employees。Must say that I’m not a fan of how all the s This books presents one (fresh) idea - that of how an infinite game mindset beats a finite game mindset in business。 The key here is that companies should not ”play to win” in a finite game, but adopt a mindset of an endless game, where situations and rivals change, but the game never ends。 Some key enablers of success in an infinite game include finding and living by a just cause, and nurturing trust (even over performance) within teams and employees。Must say that I’m not a fan of how all the same cases are depicted in the light of the theory of the day, in this case pinning down the success of a company to the leadership’s infinite mindset。 Even so, I did find this book inspirational。 In fact, I got both new ideas and new energy to take with me to work。 。。。more

I liked this book more than I expected to。 It was recommended to me in a financial newsletter from an organization I trust (Choose FI)。 It is a fairly dense book, but my essential takeaway had me examining mindset and motivation of leaders and individuals--mostly within the business world but I could see it applying in all areas。 Adopting the perspective of the long game and standing your ground with decisions were also an ongoing theme。

3x the length it needed to be。 Long essay, not a book

Torki

A book that will change your mind about how to define a winner。

Pretty good book! Advancing a simple idea。 Thought it was unnecessarily long at first for such a simple idea but eventually found the many examples and anecdotes really interesting and insightful。

The underlying philosophy of this books points to a silent wisdom that can only be pointed to。 And though this idea may seem new-aged, it is a redesign of ancient ideas that can lead to a better tomorrow in business and beyond。

Dariusz Nawojczyk

This is a very idealistic book。 But hey, world always starts being changed by thoughts that seem impossible at first。 Totally worth reading and I wish everyone was working in the environment which is described by Sinek。

Mr。 Kim

A very interesting and insightful book。 Unfortunately, I think it is too difficult of a mindset for many to accept, which is sad…

#12 for your girl。 This took me 80 months to read。 It was just meh for me。 But also, he’s not wrong。🤷🏽‍♀️ He talks about finite and infinite mindsets。 Gives some good examples of finite leadership (anybody remember Groupon??) And of course it has me thinking of how to be more infinite minded。。。 but it was just meh。 #iread #chasingcarabooks #chasingcarabooks2021

What the author is saying makes sense, but I guess I am at that stage in life where I don't enjoy reading about - things from people who haven't done things themselves - use motherhood statements to paint grand visions- cherry pick examples to prove their point and build narrative- evoke an emotional response instead of a rational one。 What the author is saying makes sense, but I guess I am at that stage in life where I don't enjoy reading about - things from people who haven't done things themselves - use motherhood statements to paint grand visions- cherry pick examples to prove their point and build narrative- evoke an emotional response instead of a rational one。 。。。more

This book was given to me as a birthday present by a long-time friend and business partner, whom I admire a lot。 He is no some blue-eyed idealist and his way to success was really rough。 This is why I was really surprised to read the handwritten dedication he put on the title page where he encouraged me to think of the Just Cause in life and business as I would be reading through this book。 So I was intrigued right from the onset。 Although I do not fully agree with some of the arguments and conc This book was given to me as a birthday present by a long-time friend and business partner, whom I admire a lot。 He is no some blue-eyed idealist and his way to success was really rough。 This is why I was really surprised to read the handwritten dedication he put on the title page where he encouraged me to think of the Just Cause in life and business as I would be reading through this book。 So I was intrigued right from the onset。 Although I do not fully agree with some of the arguments and conclusions of Sinek, I liked the main theme that life and business should be seen as infinite game and that Just Cause is important。 This book encouraged me to articulate the Just Cause for the businesses I am in and seek to follow it avoiding distractions。 。。。more

I am a huge Simon Sinek fan。 As a Dean I see this as a must read for anyone who works in a post secondary institution。 Start with why was great but this book is the next step。

It’s GOOD for someone that wants leadership with easy references。 I like the original book by James Carse better but it is cool to see how to the author brings these social games into context rather than just meta sociology

Loved listening to him live and while I found this book full of interesting views I felt it repeated the same point over and over
