Summary

A beautiful and classic picture book from Eric Carle, the creator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar。

In this multi-sensory book, children can feel the pictures as well as see them, while they hear or read the easy rhythmic text。 Early one morning a little spider begins to spin her web on a fencepost。 Alongside the visual excitement of Eric Carle's vibrant collages of familiar animals is the tactile experience of feeling the spider's web as it grows from a simple line into a complex and beautiful creation - a perfect story for reading aloud and sharing。

Eric Carle is an internationally bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator of books for very young children。 Eric lives in Massachusetts with his wife, Barbara。 The Carles opened The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Massachusetts in 2002。

Great read for childrenThe Very Busy Spider is a great book to read to toddlers and young children。 It teaches animal sounds and a repeated predictable pattern for children to say as you read to them。

Aarvik

Aarvik enjoyed the book and said in the middle “Ms。 Jen said this。” Looks like he had already read the book in his daycare 😊!

The beloved children's author, Eric Carle, created this amusing book that is fun to read to your little one。 It allows the reader to use all the different voices you can create for the animals, plus the hardcover has embossed pages for the spider's web as she creates it letting the little one have more than one sensory activity。 Lovely book! I love the simplicity and the interactive feature of the raised web threads that you can touch as you read the book。 Lots of fun animal sounds to make and a simple story that takes place in a day。 Perfect for my 3 yr old's attention span。 I love the simplicity and the interactive feature of the raised web threads that you can touch as you read the book。 Lots of fun animal sounds to make and a simple story that takes place in a day。 Perfect for my 3 yr old's attention span。 。。。more

I love Eric Carle's art style and use of medium。 This book as a few educational themes within。 There is animal identification and sounds, nature's processes and good manners like being polite。 All of the animals try and persuade the spider to stop spinning and to go play。 She doesn't listen to them, she continues to work hard at her webs。 I love Eric Carle's art style and use of medium。 This book as a few educational themes within。 There is animal identification and sounds, nature's processes and good manners like being polite。 All of the animals try and persuade the spider to stop spinning and to go play。 She doesn't listen to them, she continues to work hard at her webs。 。。。more

Reflections and lessons learned:I wasn’t so keen on the cover image or the story in this one despite usually being a fan of most spiders… no, poor fly!!

Good amount of words, repeating and tactile pages

This has really nice illustrations that are definitely the authors style! It is a good way to teach your kids about the different animals。

I read this book when I was young。 I'm 40 now, and actually work with invertebrates 。 I remember tracing my fingers across the silver web。 For some reason I recently remembered doing this and had to hunt down the book。 so 35 years later I still remember the feel of the silver web。 I loved this book。 I read this book when I was young。 I'm 40 now, and actually work with invertebrates 。 I remember tracing my fingers across the silver web。 For some reason I recently remembered doing this and had to hunt down the book。 so 35 years later I still remember the feel of the silver web。 I loved this book。 。。。more

We continue to love all the new Eric Carle books from the library。 This one is about an industrious spider who ignores farm animals who are inviting her to play because she’s so focused on spinning a web。。。 that is, until a rooster asks her to help catch a pesty fly!* library book* introduced at 1。5 years old

This is one of my younger siblings favorite books! They love the fact that the spider is so focused on what she is doing to enjoy the company of any of the other animals。 Personally, it is not one of my favorites, but I really do like the illustrations of the book!

Eric Carle is always a hit with the babies - it's not The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but it was great。 Eric Carle is always a hit with the babies - it's not The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but it was great。 。。。more

Not as powerful as The Hungry Little Caterpillar but still a great little book to demonstrate the talents of a spider to the early curious mind。

Years back I used this book to teach English at kindergarten and pre-school。 Throughout the years this story of the very busy spider that simply cannot seem to get distracted from its task of spinning a beautiful web has never failed to fascinate my young audience。 The story with its lovely illustrations helped them expand their vocabulary and enabled them to recall simple sentence structures in a fun way。 Touching the spider's web at the end of the story always gave them that extra thrill。 Years back I used this book to teach English at kindergarten and pre-school。 Throughout the years this story of the very busy spider that simply cannot seem to get distracted from its task of spinning a beautiful web has never failed to fascinate my young audience。 The story with its lovely illustrations helped them expand their vocabulary and enabled them to recall simple sentence structures in a fun way。 Touching the spider's web at the end of the story always gave them that extra thrill。 。。。more
