Summary

'If anyone can put down Worth Dying For after the first few pages, then they shouldn't really be reading thrillers at all' - Independent

There's deadly trouble in the wilds of Nebraska。。。and Reacher walks right into it。 He falls foul of the Duncans, a local clan that has terrified an entire county into submission。

But it's the unsolved case of a missing eight-year-old girl that Reacher can't let go。

Reacher - bruised and battered - should have just kept on going。 But for Reacher, that was impossible。

What, in this fearful rural county, would be worth dying for?

Although the Jack Reacher novels can be read in any order, Worth Dying For follows on directly from the end of 61 Hours

I love this series!!!!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I wish Reacher had made the bad guys be accountable vs getting rid of them。 He typically would have。 How are the town members going to explain the upheaval without confessions and clear evidence? Was a good read。

It's not realistic that Reacher should be looking for anything besides a bed and morphine after surviving the last book。 Yes, I know this is fiction。 Yes, Reacher has a driving need to right wrongs and certain things, like domestic abuse, get him hot under the collar。 He seemed to go way out of his way and beyond human endurance in this story though It's not realistic that Reacher should be looking for anything besides a bed and morphine after surviving the last book。 Yes, I know this is fiction。 Yes, Reacher has a driving need to right wrongs and certain things, like domestic abuse, get him hot under the collar。 He seemed to go way out of his way and beyond human endurance in this story though 。。。more

My very first book about Jack Reacher。 This one made me read all of them, so I think that would be enough to say about this review。

Reachers of the World We Salute YouEvery page kept my attention。 It is rare that Reacher takes any punishment, so to see him come back from these overwhelming odds was also perhaps more realistic than the traditional Reacher mode of almost superhuman strength and acumen。 The bad guys get a few licks in but Reacher overcomes。Reacher never disappoints。

For me it was full of unexpected violence but the pay-back was needed。More people, in the chain of events, needed to be taken care of。 I'm reading the next book。 "The Affair" maybe some justice will still be done。 For me it was full of unexpected violence but the pay-back was needed。More people, in the chain of events, needed to be taken care of。 I'm reading the next book。 "The Affair" maybe some justice will still be done。 。。。more

You know how it goes, when you're Jack Reacher, a drifter and ex-military policeman who has never quite given up the habit of protecting the innocent and ruthlessly crushing the guilty。 You're sitting at a bar in a motel halfway between the middle of nowhere and Interstate 80, when the phone rings。 It's a woman whose nose won't stop bleeding, and the alcoholic town doctor tells the bartender to say he isn't there。 Naturally, you offer to give the drunk doc a ride to the woman's house, and you do You know how it goes, when you're Jack Reacher, a drifter and ex-military policeman who has never quite given up the habit of protecting the innocent and ruthlessly crushing the guilty。 You're sitting at a bar in a motel halfway between the middle of nowhere and Interstate 80, when the phone rings。 It's a woman whose nose won't stop bleeding, and the alcoholic town doctor tells the bartender to say he isn't there。 Naturally, you offer to give the drunk doc a ride to the woman's house, and you don't take no for an answer。 And then you realize she's been knocked around by her husband, so you drop in on the fellow in the middle of a night out with his friends and give him a taste of his own medicine。 It's what you do。 But what happens next puts your travel plans on hold。It's the old, old Jack Reacher story: Something is up in a Nebraska community so small that it doesn't even have a name。 One family has terrorized everyone else into silence and submission。 The silence partly has to do with what their shipping business actually ships, when it isn't hauling harvested crops for the farm folks who stay in line。 And partly, it has to do with the unsolved disappearance of an 8-year-old girl, 25 years ago。 The Duncans have an ironclad alibi for it, and no body was ever found, but something about it stinks to Reacher。 And as he starts to look around, pairs of goons representing different ethnic gangs start coming to town, each pair vying to control an illicit trade of some kind, and all of them instructed to stop Reacher from looking into it。 Why, there's even a sniper waiting to blow Reacher's head off, if he gets too close to the thing itself。 It's all very mysterious。 But Reacher, as always, cuts through the enigma and the intrigue with brutal directness, through a combination of willingness to risk getting badly hurt and a talent toward making sure the other guy gets hurt worse。 He gradually pulls behind him a core group of scared townsfolk (or townshipsfolk, really) and inspires them to take a hand in their own liberation。 And he finally gets to the bottom of a nauseating secret that has been guarded for decades by an unwilling conspiracy of willful blindness。 Where subtle thinkers and by-the-numbers investigators failed, brute force cracks the puzzle。 And if you're Jack Reacher, you're the embodiment of brute force。This is the 15th Jack Reacher novel。 The 26th book of the series, titled Better Off Dead and co-authored with Andrew Child (a。k。a。 Andrew Grant), is scheduled for release in October 2021。 This review is based on an audiobook read by Dick Hill。 I don't know what I missed between the nearest preceding book that I've read and this, though uncharacteristically, it seems to have left Reacher with lingering injuries。 Nevertheless, these hurts only slightly slow him down as he takes out the bad guys with a straightforwardness that inspires awe。 Other than that, I've detected very few signs in this series of the kind of continuity that makes what order you read the books in matter much。 I'm sure it's been said many times: sometimes you weary of soul-searching, spiritually broken novel characters whose struggles meet with mixed success at best。 When ambiguity and human frailty get you down, a blunt object that gets the job done every time may be just the medicine you need。 And lo, his name is Reacher。 。。。more

An excellent read as always。 And the descriptive pieces of Reacher viz a viz the footballers only goes to show why Tom Cruise cannot cut it!

Dan

Another great Jack Reacher story。 This story is unusual in that the ending of the previous story (61 hours) is very briefly explained!

I would give up a lot to be able to think like Jack Reacher and being able to analyse the situation in a cool dispassionate way he tends to do it。The odd combination of ruthlessness and tenderness all wrapped in a keen sense of justice。Looooove the series!!!!

Very well done。 Something illicit is going on and, in spite of some clues, that "something" remains elusive until the final chapters of the book。 I think I enjoy that sense of mystery the most。 Wrapping one's mind around multiple possibilities throughout the story but still not quite sure。 Keeps me engaged。 Fine resolution。 Lot's of interesting tidbits provided within the story line。 Well done and satisfying。 Very well done。 Something illicit is going on and, in spite of some clues, that "something" remains elusive until the final chapters of the book。 I think I enjoy that sense of mystery the most。 Wrapping one's mind around multiple possibilities throughout the story but still not quite sure。 Keeps me engaged。 Fine resolution。 Lot's of interesting tidbits provided within the story line。 Well done and satisfying。 。。。more

Well it’s Reacher, so it’s awesome。 My favorite series of all time。

Undropable till the end。

seems like less investigation and more, everything is predictable because of human nature。 Too many needed coincidences。 Compared to other Jack Reachers I ve read, this one seems a bit lacking。

One of the best

Couple of plot holes here and there but overall a fun read。 The ending felt a touch rushed if I'm being picky。 I'd have liked "better" deaths for the baddies。 Couple of plot holes here and there but overall a fun read。 The ending felt a touch rushed if I'm being picky。 I'd have liked "better" deaths for the baddies。 。。。more

Jack Reacher being Jack Reacher in another small town in the middle of nowhere that desperately needs his help。。。although they don’t really know they need his help。If you are this far down the line of the Lee Child series, you know what to expect and you won’t be disappointed!

3。5?? 3。75?? i’m on a current reacher roll (can you tell) and, i have to say, im beginning to find a pattern。 all of the highly rated reacher books often aren’t my favourites (like 61 Hours), but lesser talked about ones like this are really enjoyable to me!

Second read。 Still one of the books in the series that made the most impression on me。 One that still made my heart pounds and my skin crawled when the revelation came。 Whilst the crime was not described graphically, a sentence or two, a word or two were enough to spin my mind to the darkest and most horrible space no mind should ever enter。 Nowhere did ‘luck and happenstance’ is more welcomed than on this scenario。

Was dealing with some reader/writer's block and this really jarred everything loose so thank you Lee Child。 It's just Reacher roaming around rural Nebraska beating up former Cornhusker football players and making impossible deductions - pretty much everything you could want? Gets real dark at the end, though!!
