Summary

Deep in the heart of the planet Irpa stands the Salty Pig’s House of Tonics & Tinctures, home of the wise Pig Wizard and his adopted granddaughter, Bea。 As keepers of the Endless Flame, they live a quiet and peaceful life, crafting medicines and potions for the people of their once-prosperous world。

All that changes one day when, while walking through the woods, Bea meets Cad, a member of the Galdurians, an ancient race thought to be long-extinct。 Cad believes that if anyone can help him find his missing people, it’s the Pig Wizard。

But when the two arrive home, the Pig Wizard is nowhere to be found—all that’s left is the Jar of Endless Flame and a mysterious note。 Fearing for the Pig Wizard’s safety, Bea and Cad set out across Irpa to find him, while danger fights its way out of the shadows and into the light。

Will these two unexpected friends find the beloved Pig Wizard and prevent eternal darkness from blanketing their world? Or has Irpa truly seen its last sunrise?

LOVE the art in this one although I'm still not sure where the story is going。 Feels akin to Amulet, Three Thieves, maybe even Zita in some ways。 LOVE the art in this one although I'm still not sure where the story is going。 Feels akin to Amulet, Three Thieves, maybe even Zita in some ways。 。。。more

I truly loved both the art and the story in Probert's "Lightfall"。 Gorgeous colors, fantastically detailed settings, and great character development all come together to form an amazing and mysterious story of the disappearance of Bea's grandfather the Pig Wizard。 When Bea returned from collecting ingredients for her Grandpa's potion shop, she found her grandfather gone。 She and her new friend Cad, an ancient Galdurian who rescued her while collecting potion ingredients, take off on a dangerous I truly loved both the art and the story in Probert's "Lightfall"。 Gorgeous colors, fantastically detailed settings, and great character development all come together to form an amazing and mysterious story of the disappearance of Bea's grandfather the Pig Wizard。 When Bea returned from collecting ingredients for her Grandpa's potion shop, she found her grandfather gone。 She and her new friend Cad, an ancient Galdurian who rescued her while collecting potion ingredients, take off on a dangerous adventure to rescue the Pig Wizard。 It's a fight at every turn, and finding the Pig Wizard is key to prevent the oncoming dark forces who are after his Jar of Endless Flame which could stop the sunrises on their planet Irpa。 。。。more

This is one of the few graphic novels I've read that I desperately want a screen adaption for。 This is the vibe of Ghibli mixed with The Dark Crystal, and I love it。 The art is great, especially the nature scenes or the scene set on a black background, the world building made me so excited, and I love the depiction of Bea's anxiety! I cannot overstate how much I love this book。 I'll def read it again fairly soon now that I understand more about Irpa。 This is everything that's good and right in the world。 One of the best books I've read in a while。 I just want to buy a travel supply kit with everything I need and go adventuring!! The art is phenomenal! Very imaginative and whimsical。 I would happily ‘read’ a book of him just following a character wandering silently through the world he’s created。 The story is cute and endearing as well。 A classic open-ended adventure with some adorable characters。 Can’t wait for his next one。

Lightfall is a graphic novel which totally surprised me。 I loved the drawing style which felt colorful and whimsical。 It reminded me of my favorite elements of LOTR, Ori, and Star Wars all at once。 So definitely have to recommend this for middle grade readers who are drawn to epic quests and space-vibes! This is a beautifully rendered graphic novel that I could stare at all day。The planet Irpa may have seen its last sunrise。 The shadows of evil threaten to emerge。 Bea wakes up in a quaintest house ever, a home she shares with adoptive grandfather the wise Pig Wizard。 On her walk out in the woods to collect some herbs, she meets Cad the Galdurian, possibly the last of his race。 Cad is on his way to see her grandfather, but the pair get home only to find that he has gone。 All that’s left is a note This is a beautifully rendered graphic novel that I could stare at all day。The planet Irpa may have seen its last sunrise。 The shadows of evil threaten to emerge。 Bea wakes up in a quaintest house ever, a home she shares with adoptive grandfather the wise Pig Wizard。 On her walk out in the woods to collect some herbs, she meets Cad the Galdurian, possibly the last of his race。 Cad is on his way to see her grandfather, but the pair get home only to find that he has gone。 All that’s left is a note for Bea and the Jar of Endless Flame。The two set out on a perilous journey to find Grandpa。 And the lands they travel through are just so beautiful。 The two unlikely friends come up against deceit, hostility, but also friendship。 Bea loses her light jar, regains it and loses it again。 We come to realize it might be something very important and possibly, the last light。This book is to be continued, so a little patience is needed。 I’d recommend this to any reader who’d love to get lost in Tim Probert’s art。 5 stars for the art ⭐️ 。。。more

I have never been into graphic novels and this was a really nice introduction to them。 Beautiful artwork, and a lovely story, the characters are really lovable and you totally root for them。 It’s great to see Bea evolve and her relationship with Cad is really sweet。 Can’t wait to read the next part !

What a cute middle grade graphic novel! The art is absolutely stunning, the worldbuilding well done and I loved the new friends on an adventure storyline (and you can never go wrong with a cat companion)。 The opening bits gave me some strong Black Cauldron vibes (the movie, since I've never read the books) but Lightfall is definitely it's own story and world。 I'm definitely looking forward to the second volume since it ends quite unexpectedly with a lot of threads/pieces unresolved。 What a cute middle grade graphic novel! I wrote a whole review and it didn’t save 😭I really liked this! It’s a strong start to a series。 I loved the art style, the plot and pacing, and the characters。 I liked that Bea has anxiety that manifests itself physically (at least to her) and I like Cad as that bumbling lovable idiot type。 I really look forward to more!

Very pretty world, awesome illustrations, and a good adventure。 It's a gradual reveal, so there's more to come, but this installment does a great job introducing us to the characters and the quest。 I particularly like the depiction of anxiety as a visible shadow, and how Bea fights it off。 Is it just me, or does this borrow from the Dark Crystal? between the Skexies-like Tikarri and the 3 eyed-witch, it just seemed evocative to me。 Very pretty world, awesome illustrations, and a good adventure。 It's a gradual reveal, so there's more to come, but this installment does a great job introducing us to the characters and the quest。 I particularly like the depiction of anxiety as a visible shadow, and how Bea fights it off。 Is it just me, or does this borrow from the Dark Crystal? between the Skexies-like Tikarri and the 3 eyed-witch, it just seemed evocative to me。 。。。more

Deep in the woods, the Pig Wizard tends to a potions shop with his adopted granddaughter, Beatrice, and guards over the ancient knowledge of Irpa。 Bea enjoys helping her grandfather, but she worries about his memory and his somewhat sporadic grasp on his own schedule。 While out gathering potion ingredients one day, Bea meets a Galdurian, Cad, the last member of a race thought to be extinct, who is seeking the help of the Pig Wizard to find his lost family。 She takes him home, but to their dismay Deep in the woods, the Pig Wizard tends to a potions shop with his adopted granddaughter, Beatrice, and guards over the ancient knowledge of Irpa。 Bea enjoys helping her grandfather, but she worries about his memory and his somewhat sporadic grasp on his own schedule。 While out gathering potion ingredients one day, Bea meets a Galdurian, Cad, the last member of a race thought to be extinct, who is seeking the help of the Pig Wizard to find his lost family。 She takes him home, but to their dismay Bea’s grandfather has vanished and left only a cryptic note behind。 With Cad’s encouragement, Bea joins him on a quest to find her grandfather- but mythical, dark creatures are stirring, and all is not as it once was in the land of Irpa。 I’m absolutely in love with this beautiful, cryptic first graphic novel following Bea and Cad on their adventures。 The world of Irpa is gorgeously crafted, with interesting flora and fauna and a deep history going back hundreds of years。 Bea knows of some history only as legend, but Cad has a different perspective and certainly hasn’t told everything he knows yet。 The awakening of ancient enemies sets up the structure for the whole plot, but even their appearance is shrouded in mystery and a purpose we don’t fully understand。 Similarly, there is a lot of mystery to be unraveled surrounding Bea, her powers, her unknown parentage, and even the tasks she has been set to complete by her grandfather the Pig Wizard。 Not to mention, trying to find him again while being chased by enemies, beset by thieves, and trying to save themselves and others from danger。 Cad is adorable and cheerful, Bea is cautious but steadfast, Nimm the cat is a delightful sidekick, and I’m absolutely dying to follow along for the next set of their adventures 。。。more
