Summary

Ruby is unlike most little girls in old China。 Instead of aspiring to get married, Ruby is determined to attend university when she grows up, just like the boys in her family。 Based upon the inspirational story of the author's grandmother and accompanied by richly detailed illustrations, Ruby's Wish is an engaging portrait of a young girl who strives for more and a family who rewards her hard work and courage。

I loved this story! An inspirational little book for children though there’s a surprise ending that everyone will appreciate。The story is of a young girl who wants more than to grow up to be married off but would rather go to university。Reading this gives inspiration to ask for more in life as well as giving cultural insight into China。Spoiler:It turns out to be a true story!I had tears in my eyes when I realized that this wasn’t just another tale for kids but a biography made to be read for a yo I loved this story! An inspirational little book for children though there’s a surprise ending that everyone will appreciate。The story is of a young girl who wants more than to grow up to be married off but would rather go to university。Reading this gives inspiration to ask for more in life as well as giving cultural insight into China。Spoiler:It turns out to be a true story!I had tears in my eyes when I realized that this wasn’t just another tale for kids but a biography made to be read for a younger audience。 。。。more

3 1/2 stars。 This is the true story of the author’s grandmother, whose love of learning led her to be one of the first Chinese women to attend a university。

Genre: Historical FictionGrade level: 2-4This was a great book !! It was based off the author’s grandmother。 The creative way the author told the story was really cool。 I loved that the main character wanted to go to school。 This is a great example for students who might complain about going to school。 I also really loved the illustrations。

Laurie

F&P Level N。 Ruby wishes to go to university, not to be married like her other female cousins。
