Summary

A brilliant book on Christianity, maybe the best ever。

One of the best books that I have ever read。 The explanations of theological and logical truths are easy for the average reader to understand and put the "big questions" of life into a new light that allows one to think through them just a bit more easily。 Great read! I now understand why so many recommend Christians to read Mere Christianity。 A little late on the hype train but fully on board! This is not a quick read but so totally worth the effort and time! 。。。more

One of the best books to read as a Christian or someone with questions about Christianity As a Christian, it answered practically all of the questions I have ever wondered about my faith。 It eloquently explains what Christianity is at its most basic level and why we believe what we believe。

At least my second time through this classic by C。S。 Lewis。 Despite some dated ways of thinking, and the odd evolutionary thought, this is a great book to read from time to time throughout life。

Solid readI was challenged at church to read a "nonfiction book about Christianity" and since I usually read fiction, I've always known this book to be the "go-to" book about Christianity。 I enjoyed the comparisons Lewis made when it came to Him explaining the walk we should have as Christians。 This book has encouraged me to dig into the Bible deeper and obey the Word more since my life belongs to God and that it doesn't belong to me。 It has also encouraged me to read more nonfiction books like Solid readI was challenged at church to read a "nonfiction book about Christianity" and since I usually read fiction, I've always known this book to be the "go-to" book about Christianity。 I enjoyed the comparisons Lewis made when it came to Him explaining the walk we should have as Christians。 This book has encouraged me to dig into the Bible deeper and obey the Word more since my life belongs to God and that it doesn't belong to me。 It has also encouraged me to read more nonfiction books like this in the future。 。。。more

More and more wonderful。 I read a little C。S。Lewis every year。 It had been a while since I had read this, but in the end, it still surprises me。 This author is truly plugged into 'The Force" and his works never get stale。 More and more wonderful。 I read a little C。S。Lewis every year。 It had been a while since I had read this, but in the end, it still surprises me。 This author is truly plugged into 'The Force" and his works never get stale。 。。。more

I choose to read this book during my critical thinking class, and feel I learned more about critical thinking with this book than I did with the text book。 That is to say read from one of the great critical thinker and some of that will rub off on you。 This book made me think, taught me, and even rubbed me the wrong way it parts。 It however has all the makes of a classic。 Something that once you read it stays with you。 If you have not read this book and your curious at all give it a try。 I think I choose to read this book during my critical thinking class, and feel I learned more about critical thinking with this book than I did with the text book。 That is to say read from one of the great critical thinker and some of that will rub off on you。 This book made me think, taught me, and even rubbed me the wrong way it parts。 It however has all the makes of a classic。 Something that once you read it stays with you。 If you have not read this book and your curious at all give it a try。 I think you like if not for word choices alone。 。。。more

What a wonderful surprise this book was for me。 I wondered if I would struggle with the prose but wow, this book was so well written and so easy to understand and follow, I loved my time with it。 It was not things I didn’t already know but the way he breaks down each aspect of understanding Christianity and the faith as a whole was absolutely amazing。 I loved my time and actually took so much away that will stay with me forever。 He is clearly an intelligent and intellectual in his understanding What a wonderful surprise this book was for me。 I wondered if I would struggle with the prose but wow, this book was so well written and so easy to understand and follow, I loved my time with it。 It was not things I didn’t already know but the way he breaks down each aspect of understanding Christianity and the faith as a whole was absolutely amazing。 I loved my time and actually took so much away that will stay with me forever。 He is clearly an intelligent and intellectual in his understanding but navigates a clear understanding of Christian beliefs in such a wise and brilliant manner。 This book was beautiful, it was like food for my soul and I will definitely refer to it in years to come。 。。。more

The book is really out of date about things like moral family values。 But considering how old it is, a lot of things have held up and its encouraging that more people are willing to discuss topics like this。 Lewis has a unique perspective because it's rare to find such an analytical critique of Christianity from a Christian。 An opinion that is open to scrutiny for atheist's and Christians alike。 Regardless of how I agree or disagree with his actual faith, it's refreshing to read something openmi The book is really out of date about things like moral family values。 But considering how old it is, a lot of things have held up and its encouraging that more people are willing to discuss topics like this。 Lewis has a unique perspective because it's rare to find such an analytical critique of Christianity from a Christian。 An opinion that is open to scrutiny for atheist's and Christians alike。 Regardless of how I agree or disagree with his actual faith, it's refreshing to read something openminded enough to consider religion alongside reductionist philosophy。 。。。more

Mr Lewis attempt to summarize the Christian faith (in a non-denominal sense) is fairly marvellous。 His understanding of human nature does help better characterize some aspects- such as virtues, temptations and sins- which we tend to forget。 As the author himself says in a certain sense we don't need teaching as much as we do need remembrance。 The book also benefits from C。S。 understanding of Christianity as a narrative, or The narrative。 However, it isn't exempt from certain faults。 The choice o Mr Lewis attempt to summarize the Christian faith (in a non-denominal sense) is fairly marvellous。 His understanding of human nature does help better characterize some aspects- such as virtues, temptations and sins- which we tend to forget。 As the author himself says in a certain sense we don't need teaching as much as we do need remembrance。 The book also benefits from C。S。 understanding of Christianity as a narrative, or The narrative。 However, it isn't exempt from certain faults。 The choice of using a more ambiguous language - in order to be more inclusive- also means the lack of clarification where it was due, mainly on the few last chapters which revolve around more theological matters。Nonetheless, in my humble opinion, the author does achieve what he first attempted。 It may not be the best summary to read in order to understand Christianity per se but rather ourselves and the reflex of Christ in all of us。 。。。more

The best part of this classic is the beginning (despite the famous "Lord or Lunatic" section)。 You wont find a better apologetic for the appeal of the conscience and the moral law dictating a universal truth for all men that makes him accountable to the maker of that law。 Lewis hits it poignantly and with laser precision。 The best part of this classic is the beginning (despite the famous "Lord or Lunatic" section)。 You wont find a better apologetic for the appeal of the conscience and the moral law dictating a universal truth for all men that makes him accountable to the maker of that law。 Lewis hits it poignantly and with laser precision。 。。。more

This is clearly a book written by an English professor。 The words are English, vocabulary simple for people to understand。 Yet the ideas and crafting of illustrations are still good even decades after it was written。 Hard to believe that finishing this book helps you better understand what others have spent entire lifetimes pondering and gazing about。 Greatly enjoyed it despite its difficulty to comprehend。 Hope to read it again in my lifetime。

Such a wonderful, ageless, classic on what Christianity is!I read this as both a non-believer and a believer。 It was his writings that niggled in my mind until I chose to put faith in Christ。 Now every time I re-read this book I get a new insight, a better way to “apologize “ for my faith to unbelieving family and friends。 This book is a diamond mine of gems, every re-read is digging deeper into the mine for insight and understanding。 It, of course, does not supersede the Bible but is the best b Such a wonderful, ageless, classic on what Christianity is!I read this as both a non-believer and a believer。 It was his writings that niggled in my mind until I chose to put faith in Christ。 Now every time I re-read this book I get a new insight, a better way to “apologize “ for my faith to unbelieving family and friends。 This book is a diamond mine of gems, every re-read is digging deeper into the mine for insight and understanding。 It, of course, does not supersede the Bible but is the best book that enhances the study of the Word。 。。。more

Pride is the greatest sin as it puts you into conflict with everyone else。 Whatever your denomination or creed, Lewis presents interesting ideas in an entertaining, insightful way。 At the very least, it makes you think about your own human nature。

This book was very informative and C。S。 Lewis has such a simple way of explaining so many issues that plague people becoming Christians。 This book was clearly aimed at people who have just become Christians。 Since I have been a Christian most of my life I felt many of the issues were already issues I had considered for myself。 It was good to hear Lewis explain these things so simply。
