Summary

Animal farm was originally written based on the Soviet Union whilst under the communists rule, but it most definitely can be applied to todays society。 I'm not going to start writing a proper review as I feel that it would be long and more of an English essay, but I wil say that this classic was brilliant。 A brilliant plot, with brilliant writing。 Just take an afternoon to sit down and read it, it's well worth your time。 And whilst I do think it takes a certain knowledge of politics, history, an Animal farm was originally written based on the Soviet Union whilst under the communists rule, but it most definitely can be applied to todays society。 I'm not going to start writing a proper review as I feel that it would be long and more of an English essay, but I wil say that this classic was brilliant。 A brilliant plot, with brilliant writing。 Just take an afternoon to sit down and read it, it's well worth your time。 And whilst I do think it takes a certain knowledge of politics, history, and good English analysis skills, everyone should clearly understand the reflections from Animal Farm to society today that this book gives an excellent twist to。 。。。more

I like how George Orwell used animals to tell the story。 The book was a little confusing at first because there were many characters, but it got easier to understand later。 I liked Boxer the best because he is very strong and loyal。

This is one of those books where I sighed along saying “Yup, that about sums it up,” but didn’t go away with a lot of thoughts about what we do about it。It’s certainly a vivid portrayal of power and corruption。 I could match many current issues and current political/media figures to events and characters in the book。 It doesn’t explore solutions, which is fine。 I think it serves its purpose in making me think。 But it would be sad to just leave off where the book leaves off。

Orwell is a genius, not only for his use of a known childhood entity of a farm as a metaphor for a well meaning societal model tainted by selfishness and corruption, but also for seeing a need to communicate these patterns to a world that may have struggled to grasp them via any other medium

I read this at the end of high school but appreciated it more so upon the second reading。 The animals provided an interesting allegory for the political and societal power struggles that have happened throughout history and those that continue to happen between the ‘oppressor’ and the ‘oppressed’。 Those that were of lower intelligence were often the hardest workers and accepted more arduous tasks for less reward than those who were more able to think for themselves。 I definitely found myself bec I read this at the end of high school but appreciated it more so upon the second reading。 The animals provided an interesting allegory for the political and societal power struggles that have happened throughout history and those that continue to happen between the ‘oppressor’ and the ‘oppressed’。 Those that were of lower intelligence were often the hardest workers and accepted more arduous tasks for less reward than those who were more able to think for themselves。 I definitely found myself becoming somewhat frustrated at the actions of the animals who were under the thumb purely because I felt they could’ve done more for themselves。 Succinct and well written, worth the read 。。。more

This book was very interesting and intriguing considering how the characters were mainly animals。 This book taught me more on communism, the ideology that is portrayed by the pig Napoleons actions in the book。 I learned from this book that it is easier to dictate ignorance people than educated ones, and that people will obey and love dictators as long as they sound good。

There isn't much that can be said about this classic today really, as everything that can be said has already been said a million times over。 It's a classic, one taught to children in schools - which is probably where I first read it, but don't quote me on that。 Meant as a biting satire as to the evils of communism, it is in no way subtle, but then it doesn't really need to be。 After all, the talking critters carry the piece! It comes as no huge shock to the modern audience that communism doesn't There isn't much that can be said about this classic today really, as everything that can be said has already been said a million times over。 It's a classic, one taught to children in schools - which is probably where I first read it, but don't quote me on that。 Meant as a biting satire as to the evils of communism, it is in no way subtle, but then it doesn't really need to be。 After all, the talking critters carry the piece! It comes as no huge shock to the modern audience that communism doesn't work - we watched it try and fail in several countries, not least of all Russia which is where this work was clearly aimed at in its time。 It covers propaganda, brain-washing, the white-washing of history and how even the best of intentions can lead to hell and damnation。 Some of the messages are very much aimed at adults, but the writing is accessible and understandable for the younger audience as well。 Is it biased? Hell, yes。 It's a deeply cynical view of a political movement in general and the Russian Communist movement in particular。 It's crude and simplistic at points, but the message is clear。 Whether or not Communism could work under the right circumstances, isn't the question at hand though。 Because it also shines a light on how easily individuals can be manipulated by the right leader saying the right thing at the right time。 It gazes into the abyss of political manipulation and how history can be re-written before our very eyes。 It was - is? - on a banned list of books in several Communist regimes for a reason, but I don't think the only message to be taken from this is that Communism is bad。 Interestingly, the book itself has been used as propaganda during the Cold War, which I think is tellingly ironic in and of itself。 Would I read this with my non-existent children? Yes, and not just because of the talking animals, although they are a definite factor。 I think this would also be a good introduction to challenging any political propaganda, looking closely at the real history and seeing through the lies and horse manure that is spouted from on high。 。。。more
