Summary

The Devil's Bones is the latest novel in the series from Carolyn Haines that Kirkus Reviews characterizes as "Stephanie Plum meets the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" featuring sassy Southern private investigator Sarah Booth Delaney。

As Sarah Booth sees it, Easter weekend is a time to celebrate life in all its many forms。 So when the newly-pregnant Tinkie invites her and Cece on a girls' trip to Lucedale, Mississippi to celebrate that spring has officially sprung, Sarah Booth can't resist。 Plans include facials, food, and a trip to the incredible Garden of Bones--a miniature Holy Land with recreations of all parts of the Middle East--for their Sunrise Easter Services led by biblical scholar, gardener, and creator of the Gardens Daniel Reynolds。

Unfortunately for Sarah Booth and the gang, someone doesn't seem to appreciate this season of new life。 Easter morning has just dawned when the trio find themselves at the Mount of Olives--with a dead body at their feet。

Reynolds identifies the dead man as local lawyer Perry Slay, who was well known for his sly and underhanded dealings。 Perry had rubbed plenty of people the wrong way, and now it looks like someone has rubbed him out。。。

Because being a PI apparently means never being on vacation, Sarah Booth and her friends must now find a way to resurrect the truth from a list of suspects as long as the River Jordan, reveal the devil in disguise, and--if they're lucky--find a moment to enjoy a few chocolate bunnies before more bodies pile up like pillars of salt。

A very convoluted plot that only a master such as Ms。 Haines could bring to a satisfactory conclusion, neatly tying up all the subplots except one (the less said about Gertrude the better)。 That being said, I had a pretty good idea of the main culprit about halfway through which was disappointing。 Still, it is always an entertaining reading experience with Tinkie, Jitty, Sarah Booth and Cece。 "What the hell is going on with this case?""I don't know, but we're going to find out。" Being shot at tw A very convoluted plot that only a master such as Ms。 Haines could bring to a satisfactory conclusion, neatly tying up all the subplots except one (the less said about Gertrude the better)。 That being said, I had a pretty good idea of the main culprit about halfway through which was disappointing。 Still, it is always an entertaining reading experience with Tinkie, Jitty, Sarah Booth and Cece。 "What the hell is going on with this case?""I don't know, but we're going to find out。" Being shot at twice in one day was way over the top。 。。。more

I will never become tired or bored when I read about Sarah Booth and her many joys and loves that exist in her life。 I look forward to each new adventure that comes her way。 With her loyal and faithful friends always there to lend a helping hand, you can’t help but feel a deep connection to these characters。 Animals are always a must and an integral part of each story。 I enjoyed the discussion about different religions and found myself wanting to add this miniature holy land to my bucket list。

In this story, Sarah Booth, Tinkie and Cece are on a girls trip。 Tinkie is finally expecting and the women all want to celebrate。 However bodies start appearing and the main suspect becomes Sarah Booth and Tinkie's new client。 The book was an easy read with an old villain on the scene to confuse matters。 In this story, Sarah Booth, Tinkie and Cece are on a girls trip。 Tinkie is finally expecting and the women all want to celebrate。 However bodies start appearing and the main suspect becomes Sarah Booth and Tinkie's new client。 The book was an easy read with an old villain on the scene to confuse matters。 。。。more

This was good at being what it intended to be: a light distracting mystery。 While the author tried to explain context though I definitely felt like this should be read as one in a series。 I might start the series from the beginning in some far in the future time where I have enough to read。

This is one of my very favorite mystery series。 The author keeps them interesting and the stories move along with the main characters in each book。 I enjoyed this one a lot。 A little loose thread is left at the end。 I’m hoping for a future book to tie up that one! No spoilers here!

I waited a really long time to finally read this book。 I had to prompt my library to acquire it no less than three times。 That being said, this was definitely NOT one of my favorites in the series, and I'm disappointed。 The plot ran in circles, the characters were so-so, and the best part was Sweetie Pie's arrival。 I'm really sick of the Gertrude-Strom-Lurking-Out-There-Somewhere issue。 I feel like the series has "jumped the shark", thanks to Tinkie's pregnancy。 Even Jitty got on my nerves this I waited a really long time to finally read this book。 I had to prompt my library to acquire it no less than three times。 That being said, this was definitely NOT one of my favorites in the series, and I'm disappointed。 The plot ran in circles, the characters were so-so, and the best part was Sweetie Pie's arrival。 I'm really sick of the Gertrude-Strom-Lurking-Out-There-Somewhere issue。 I feel like the series has "jumped the shark", thanks to Tinkie's pregnancy。 Even Jitty got on my nerves this time, instead of being fun and clever。 Also, I'm not a Coleman fan and am over the Sarah Booth and Coleman pairing, already。 。。。more

This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series。 I enjoy the dynamic between Sarah Booth, her best friend and partner Tinkie, her love Coleman, and the other regular cast of characters that help her solve mysteries。 This was another funny installment of the series that revolves around Sarah Booth, Tinkie, and Cece going away for the Easter weekend。 They stay at a B&B and visit a place called The Devil's Bones, a religious "park" geared towards different parts of the bible。 The usual chaos ensues, This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series。 I enjoy the dynamic between Sarah Booth, her best friend and partner Tinkie, her love Coleman, and the other regular cast of characters that help her solve mysteries。 This was another funny installment of the series that revolves around Sarah Booth, Tinkie, and Cece going away for the Easter weekend。 They stay at a B&B and visit a place called The Devil's Bones, a religious "park" geared towards different parts of the bible。 The usual chaos ensues, with tons of dead bodies popping up。 Loved it! 。。。more

Sarah and her pregnant friend Tinkie are invited on a girl's trip to a miniature holy land with a great garden。 They find a dead body, a lawyer with many shady dealings。 This gives them a long list of suspects。 There is a part of the story that I didn't like。 Sarah is being stalked and nothing is ever figured out about it。 I like it when a book doesn't end on a cliff hanger。 Sarah and her pregnant friend Tinkie are invited on a girl's trip to a miniature holy land with a great garden。 They find a dead body, a lawyer with many shady dealings。 This gives them a long list of suspects。 There is a part of the story that I didn't like。 Sarah is being stalked and nothing is ever figured out about it。 I like it when a book doesn't end on a cliff hanger。 。。。more

The Devil’s Bones was the newest book in the long running Sarah Booth Delaney series by Carolyn Haines。 This is one of my favorite series and I am happy to say that I enjoyed this book just as much as I enjoyed the previous books。 My only complaint is that the book wasn’t set in Zinnia so we didn’t get to see all of the characters that I love (although they were all at least mentioned)。 The setting for this book was interesting though and it’s definitely worth a read。 As always, the mystery was The Devil’s Bones was the newest book in the long running Sarah Booth Delaney series by Carolyn Haines。 This is one of my favorite series and I am happy to say that I enjoyed this book just as much as I enjoyed the previous books。 My only complaint is that the book wasn’t set in Zinnia so we didn’t get to see all of the characters that I love (although they were all at least mentioned)。 The setting for this book was interesting though and it’s definitely worth a read。 As always, the mystery was strong and kept my attention throughout the story。 I am very interested in seeing what happens next with the ongoing mystery in the series。 Hopefully it will be resolved soon。 。。。more

Haines has written a fun cozy, and Jitty, the ever-changeable haint, adds a good deal of playfulness at each appearance。 More than that, Jitty drops tantalizing and twisting clues for Sarah Booth and the reader。 Long live Jitty, in all her incarnations!

3。5 StarsI love the Sarah Booth Delaney series and have ever since I read the first book Them Bones over 20 years ago because I know when I pick up one of Haines' cozy mysteries, I'll be in for a page-turning, suspenseful read。 In this 21st installment of the series, the mystery doesn't take place in Zinnia but in Lucedale, Mississippi when Sarah, Tinkie, and CeCe decide that a girl’s weekend at a luxury B & B is in order after all the things they went through in the last book and to celebrate t 3。5 StarsI love the Sarah Booth Delaney series and have ever since I read the first book Them Bones over 20 years ago because I know when I pick up one of Haines' cozy mysteries, I'll be in for a page-turning, suspenseful read。 In this 21st installment of the series, the mystery doesn't take place in Zinnia but in Lucedale, Mississippi when Sarah, Tinkie, and CeCe decide that a girl’s weekend at a luxury B & B is in order after all the things they went through in the last book and to celebrate that Tinkie is finally, blessedly pregnant! It's Easter weekend, and the gal pals are also there to visit The Garden of Bones, a miniature replica of the Holy Land。 Of course, trouble always seems to follow Sarah Booth and one murder after another begins to happen。 They begin to investigate the crimes but all clues seem to lead to their client。I did enjoy this latest book by Haines, but I have to admit that it isn't my favorite in the series。 It was predictable who the killer was right off the bat, and I really missed having Sarah Booth's dog Pluto part of the story! He's always there to help her, so it was a major disappointment for this dog lover。 And Coleman was just a voice on the phone。 The dynamic was just wrong for me。 Still, it was well-written and quintessential Haines, and the characters of Sarah Booth, Tinkie, Cece, Jitty were, as always, strong, amazing women who I would love to know in real life。 I look forward to reading Haines' next book in the series, A Garland of Bones just in time for Christmas!Thank you NetGalley and St。 Martins Press for the review copy。 。。。more
