Summary

Jason Barron spent 516 hours in class, completed mountains of homework and shelled out tens of thousands of dollars to complete his MBA at the BYU Marriott School of Business。 Along the way, rather than taking boring notes that he would never read (nor use) again, Jason created sketch notes for each class—visually capturing the essential points of his education—and providing an engaging and invaluable resource。

Once finished with his MBA, Jason launched a widely successful Kickstarter campaign distilling these same notes into a self-published book to help aspiring business leaders of all backgrounds and income levels understand the critical concepts one learns in business school。

Whether you are thinking about applying to business school, are currently in college studying business, or have always wondered what is taught in an MBA program, this highly entertaining and visual book is for you。

As someone who loves doodling and making mind map of things I learned, I like this book。 It feels like reading notes summarized by a classmate (well, back in university days, that classmate was me。。。。 🤣)However, we can say that everything here is an oversimplified and business is never simple, at all, we need context and examples。 Don't make any decision based on this book, including whether to pursue MBA or not 😂I think it's really nice for a really quick fun introduction because it covers a lo As someone who loves doodling and making mind map of things I learned, I like this book。 It feels like reading notes summarized by a classmate (well, back in university days, that classmate was me。。。。 🤣)However, we can say that everything here is an oversimplified and business is never simple, at all, we need context and examples。 Don't make any decision based on this book, including whether to pursue MBA or not 😂I think it's really nice for a really quick fun introduction because it covers a lot of aspects, from leadership to balanced scorecard。 It's also nice for those who run a business yet never knew the theory。 It would be refreshing and might give some insights and topic to learn more deeply。 。。。more

Very cool book with graphical representations of many key business concepts。 While not an easy book to "read" necessarily, it is a great reference。 A book I intend to keep for a while! Lots of information in engaging sketch format。

Love the concept。 The general manager chapter was so interesting, talked a lot about change and how people deal with it。 Brief mention of incentive systems too, cool。 This is a wonderful overview of what you learn in a Business Administration undergrad as well。 A nice summary, and good review。 Don't expect to delve deep into any topics。 If that's what you're looking for, this is not the book for you。 Love the concept。 The general manager chapter was so interesting, talked a lot about change and how people deal with it。 Brief mention of incentive systems too, cool。 This is a wonderful overview of what you learn in a Business Administration undergrad as well。 A nice summary, and good review。 Don't expect to delve deep into any topics。 If that's what you're looking for, this is not the book for you。 。。。more

I am off to start my MBA at INSEAD in 4 months, but with little prior formal business education, I decided to read up before classes start。 The concepts in this book are interesting but it is indeed a summary, not a shortcut。 I will be taking this book with me to France and re-reading each chapter congruently to studying it (perhaps even taking notes to add to Jason’s doodles)。

This is not really academic reading and I don't think I've learned anything special。 But I love all the graphics and the visual thinking of abstract ideas。 This is not really academic reading and I don't think I've learned anything special。 But I love all the graphics and the visual thinking of abstract ideas。 。。。more

One of the best。

This book is more of “getting to know the basics of business opreations” rather than fully comprehending the 2-years MBA course。 It’s really simplified & that’s why I like it。

I did not really expect the whole MBA knowledge to be packed in this book。 But I expected to learn, at least, something。For me, learning does not mean memorizing formulas or acronyms, but understanding how to use some instruments (may these be formulas or frameworks or whatever), when to use them, and why。This book does not provide any of this for most of the content presented。 It is like reading a colored Table of Content of a manual。 I finished it, and felt like "Ok, now what?"。 Maybe it can b I did not really expect the whole MBA knowledge to be packed in this book。 But I expected to learn, at least, something。For me, learning does not mean memorizing formulas or acronyms, but understanding how to use some instruments (may these be formulas or frameworks or whatever), when to use them, and why。This book does not provide any of this for most of the content presented。 It is like reading a colored Table of Content of a manual。 I finished it, and felt like "Ok, now what?"。 Maybe it can be useful for MBA's holders, but not for people seeking a high-level MBA knowledge, and not for people seeking to understand if an MBA is a good fit for them (I belong to the latter two)。 。。。more

Good recap of important concepts for MBA students

This was an easy to understand book。 Some of the picture notes helped understand the more difficult topics especially。 I can't wait to apply all of this to my new business I'm planning。 This was an easy to understand book。 Some of the picture notes helped understand the more difficult topics especially。 I can't wait to apply all of this to my new business I'm planning。 。。。more

Read this while getting my own MBA and I definitely agree that it is a great summary to the vast majority of the concepts you learn in a business program。 I used it as a supplemental resource once I was over halfway through my program to look back on concepts that I had previously learned and now how to apply。 This would also be a great reference for somebody who isn’t sure that they want to go get an MBA to see if the topics would interest you and apply to your line of work。

I will continue to come back to this book!First off, as a creative, sketchnotes intimidate the heck outta me, but now I really want to try to take notes this way! So it definitely inspired me in that way!Second, business-peeps & marketers easily fall into a trap of saying lots without actually saying anything at all。 I feel like this book occasionally falls into that trap, but having taken marketing classes (advertising major, here) I know that's also kinda just how the classes are。 I feel like I will continue to come back to this book!First off, as a creative, sketchnotes intimidate the heck outta me, but now I really want to try to take notes this way! But, like I said, I'll be going back to this! There are a lot of great things (like all the equations) where my brain kinda glosses over, that I'll need to look over again and research more。All in all, I'll be recommending it to a lot of people and keeping it on my shelf! 。。。more

The images are cool, and its a veeerryyy basic introduction to MBA basics, there are a couple nices insights, others that lack a bit of more explanation。

Ken Chew

Good basic introductory book for busy people who want to get some ideas。 Useful to share and coach team members about common methods and framework。

Content wise its i guess halfway Business Bachelor to Master kind of depth, 4 star is given only because the work and care they put into designing the visuals, its not a boring book to skim。

Reducing complexity downI’ve got an masters in accounting and this book was a great refresher of some business concepts that are dim to my memory。 I highly recommend this to anyone, regardless if you’ve been to college or not。

I don't have a lot to say about this book。 I learned a few。 Since it's a short book coz it has so many visuals in it and it's sum up of things you need to know about business。 It's brief and that's why you need to read more books about each topic just to broaden the ideas and knowledge and get to understand more about the topic。 I don't have a lot to say about this book。 I learned a few。 Since it's a short book coz it has so many visuals in it and it's sum up of things you need to know about business。 It's brief and that's why you need to read more books about each topic just to broaden the ideas and knowledge and get to understand more about the topic。 。。。more

The book presents a good overview of an MBA - it is by no means a replacement for an MBA but I think it is a good way to ease someone into an MBA mode of thinking

The visual is amazing, it helps me to understand the MBA knowledge easily。

Easy to Grasp Complex TopicsI have always subscribed to the idea that we think in pictures。 We read words that our imagination transforms into pictures that we can understand。 Jason has merged both in this very helpful book。 I especially liked the chapter on decision making。 And he makes you aware of certain thinking biases that are sure to creep in on you throughout your entrepreneurial journey。

Insightful!Probably will have to re read and carry around as a handbook!!

Got this as an Amazon Prime free readand after reading it i would have purchased it Easy to read and fun to understand。Covers more about business practices than I have been shown。Well done

This is a good book if you’re wondering what you’re going to learn in MBA, but not actually learning about it。 Good visuals, and compact explanation, but as someone who’s not a business graduate, there are lots of questions reading this, especially in the finance chapter。 This book gives you light for you to know WHAT to search, but then it requires you to search it deeper on your own。

A good overview but these are notes so some of the illustrations fail to fully explain the concepts and left me wanting more info。 I don’t recommend the ebook version—the notes with the illustrations may be difficult to read on some e-readers。 I imagine the cute drawings are better viewed in a physical book。 A quick read。
