Really solid artwork。 There was some really cool information in here。 It's been a while since I've played these games, so I might go through them again at some point。 I think it's such a shame that this series is dead, as I think it was they were easily some of the best horror games out there。 This book made me appreciate just how much thought went into some of the designs。 Really great if you're a fan of the series。 Really solid artwork。 There was some really cool information in here。 It's been a while since I've played these games, so I might go through them again at some point。 I think it's such a shame that this series is dead, as I think it was they were easily some of the best horror games out there。 This book made me appreciate just how much thought went into some of the designs。 Really great if you're a fan of the series。 。。。more

The Dead Space universe is massive! It spans three videogames, two films, and several novels。 It's set in a future where humanity has all but expended the resources on earth and has started to mine other planets and moons for theirs。 They build massive ships that dig into a planet's crust and house colonies of workers as they scour space。 The ill-fated Ishimura is one such vessel that stumbles upon a mysterious marker with alien glyphs。。。 its drives the inhabitants mad and mutates their bodies。 The Dead Space universe is massive! The blurbs from the artists were informative without taking up too much space and being overly long。 The pages were a photo paper to give all of the pictures a glossy rendering which I absolutely loved! 。。。more

I personally didn't like how much the interior scenes felt repetitive or how much emphasis was placed on either vehicles or mechanisms in the game。 What I really enjoyed were the sections featuring Necromorphs (I wish there was a greater variety on display here), the Necromoon (a nice surprise honestly), the Markers, Unitology, and the futuristic advertisements sections。 It would have been the full five stars had they expanded upon Necromorphs (again, showing us more variety), Markers (Black and I personally didn't like how much the interior scenes felt repetitive or how much emphasis was placed on either vehicles or mechanisms in the game。 What I really enjoyed were the sections featuring Necromorphs (I wish there was a greater variety on display here), the Necromoon (a nice surprise honestly), the Markers, Unitology, and the futuristic advertisements sections。 It would have been the full five stars had they expanded upon Necromorphs (again, showing us more variety), Markers (Black and Red and the differences that lie therein), and a bit more from the Unitology symbolism。 That being said, I would highly recommend this artbook to anyone who is a fan of the Dead Space games。TLDR; I love this book and it's only fault is that it ends too soon。 。。。more

Honestly, I bought this as a gift for myself since a lot of my writing is being recognized - a reward for all my hard work。 Dead Space influenced my writing in a big way and to see how it was all done and what went into the process of the designs was all worth the wait。 I've wanted this book since it came out and now that I have it all I can say is that it is absolutely beautiful。 It's worth its price and I wasn't disappointed。 I saw a review somewhere where someone said it's difficult to open。 Honestly, I bought this as a gift for myself since a lot of my writing is being recognized - a reward for all my hard work。 Dead Space influenced my writing in a big way and to see how it was all done and what went into the process of the designs was all worth the wait。 I've wanted this book since it came out and now that I have it all I can say is that it is absolutely beautiful。 It's worth its price and I wasn't disappointed。 I saw a review somewhere where someone said it's difficult to open。 My copy was basically like that, but after a third paging it was much easier and the book was used to me looking at it。 It just means your copy is new and no one's gone through it。Complete your Dead Space collection like I just did with this amazing book! 。。。more

I personally was a bit disappointed that there was such emphasis on vehicle and mechanic design at the expense of more necromorph development, but that's a personal taste。 The development commentary is usually insightful and enjoyable。Costume iterations are great for someone like me who is interested in going into video game design, but not gonna lie they did get repetitive across three games' worth of humans。I found it cute that they devoted a little section to the adverts of the Ishimura (but I personally was a bit disappointed that there was such emphasis on vehicle and mechanic design at the expense of more necromorph development, but that's a personal taste。 The development commentary is usually insightful and enjoyable。Costume iterations are great for someone like me who is interested in going into video game design, but not gonna lie they did get repetitive across three games' worth of humans。I found it cute that they devoted a little section to the adverts of the Ishimura (but personally, I would have preferred more necromorphs XD )。An excellent art book。 。。。more

The Art of Dead Space is a high-quality print book featuring art and commentary from all three games。 The book opens with a stunning illustration of working class hero Isaac Clarke, suited and armed with a backdrop of glowing orange。 Initial concept art for Isaac depicts a traditional heroic protagonist, but designers ultimately arrived at a rugged everyman。 The evolution of his armor, as it improves over the course of the game(s), depicts the stylized use of ribbing, popular throughout the Dead The Art of Dead Space is a high-quality print book featuring art and commentary from all three games。 The book opens with a stunning illustration of working class hero Isaac Clarke, suited and armed with a backdrop of glowing orange。 Initial concept art for Isaac depicts a traditional heroic protagonist, but designers ultimately arrived at a rugged everyman。 The evolution of his armor, as it improves over the course of the game(s), depicts the stylized use of ribbing, popular throughout the Dead Space universe and favored by the development team because of the way light and shadow would interplay off Isaac's suit in the dark and atmospheric lighting that is central to the game。 Though Isaac spends much of his time isolated, he does encounter several characters across the trilogy。 A few pages portray secondary characters from Dead Space 3 such as Norton and Ellie。 Where most video games hand their protagonists unique guns, Isaac - who is an engineer - is more comfortable with tools, and several pages cater to exploring the weapons he relies on to dismember aliens and sever diseased protrusions from Necromorphs。 In rustic browns and burnished yellows, the USG Ishimura is illustrated in all its intrepid space travelling glory, and additional air and land vehicles are represented in full color。From the outside, the USG Ishimura looks like the upturned corpse of a dead animal, its bones exposed to the elements。 It is an international reference, and one that seeps through much of the Dead Space universe。 A significant number of pages explore the Marker and Unitology, showing the many initial iterations of the Marker and depicting the church and how the DNA helix shape of the marker was worked into the architecture。 The largest section of the book gives attention to the wide array of creatures that can be found in all three games。 From Necromorphs, intended to evoke injury with their depiction of human suffering, to the vicious alien creatures introduced in Dead Space 2 (which derived inspiration from Art Forms of Nature by Ernst Haeckel)。 Page after page depicts twisted anatomies, grotesque mutations that garner a nauseating visual reaction to the prevalence of compound fractures, broken teeth, extended limbs and protruding organs。 This is horror at its finest。 "We got a goat at the butchers," Ian Milham recalls。 "There's actually footage of that goat in the front-end of the first Dead Space, where we were pulling it apart and sticking our hands in it。 We were trying to get that contrast between pallid skin and insides, old blood versus new blood and all that kind of stuff。 Fish blood was also really good - it's really dark and it coagulates, and it's got a real thick viscous quality that is kind of horrific。" Finally, the book has an expansive section on locations, from cityscapes and lunar colonies to the hospital, shopping districts, and living quarters。 Despite being a dark and brooding game, The Art of Dead Space features concept art with brilliant shades of red, ochre, turquoise, neon green and more, making for a tantalizing and vibrant book about a psychologically thrilling trilogy of horror-filled games。 。。。more

I am a HUGE Dead Space fan and it is one of my favorite video game franchises! One of the main reasons I love the franchise so much is because of the AMAZING atmosphere that each game has。 The art design and overall look of the games is just fantastic! Dead Space was one of my favorite series of the PS3 / XBox 360 era, and Dead Space 2 stands to me as one of the best games of that generation。 The mixture of sci-fi, horror, and action worked perfectly for me。 It also didn't hurt that they were some of the best looking games of the time。 This book covers all 3 games, with concept art and production art from classic environments like the Ishimura, the Sprawl, and Tau Volantis。 There's also plenty of great art of Isaac Clarke, the protagonist, the Dead Space was one of my favorite series of the PS3 / XBox 360 era, and Dead Space 2 stands to me as one of the best games of that generation。 The mixture of sci-fi, horror, and action worked perfectly for me。 It also didn't hurt that they were some of the best looking games of the time。 This book covers all 3 games, with concept art and production art from classic environments like the Ishimura, the Sprawl, and Tau Volantis。 There's also plenty of great art of Isaac Clarke, the protagonist, the Necromorphs, and the weapons。 Visceral Games moved on to work on Battlefield: Hardline, but I hold out hope they'll return to the Dead Space universe at some point。 。。。more

Really enjoyed paging through the art and reading about the artists' conceptual goals and references。 Would have liked to see more detail, covers all three games and kinda wish they had released a full book for each one instead。 And remember spotting a couple typos。 But still great。 Really enjoyed paging through the art and reading about the artists' conceptual goals and references。 Would have liked to see more detail, covers all three games and kinda wish they had released a full book for each one instead。 And remember spotting a couple typos。 But still great。 。。。more

( More pictures on my blog)The Art of Dead Space is a wonderful concept art book for the chilling game series。 It has 192 pages and a hardcover with a nice matte surface going on。The book collects art from all the three games so far。 Squeezing three games into 192 pages means that some artworks could not be included。 So at times, I was thinking,"Shouldn't there be a bit more of this and that?" Having said that, this artbook is as good as it can get。 It's great actually。All pages are fille ( More pictures on my blog)The Art of Dead Space is a wonderful concept art book for the chilling game series。 It has 192 pages and a hardcover with a nice matte surface going on。The book collects art from all the three games so far。 Squeezing three games into 192 pages means that some artworks could not be included。 So at times, I was thinking,"Shouldn't there be a bit more of this and that?" I’ve mentioned this before, but I have to reiterate: I love seeing concept art behind my favorite games and movies。 There’s something almost magical about how designers can translate concepts into reality for the screen。 So when I heard about THE ART OF DEAD SPACE and how it would cover all three games, I knew I had to see it。 The fine folks at Titan planned the release of this book to coincide with the release of the third game in the series, and it is a perfect compliment to the epic horror fr I’ve mentioned this before, but I have to reiterate: I love seeing concept art behind my favorite games and movies。 There’s something almost magical about how designers can translate concepts into reality for the screen。 So when I heard about THE ART OF DEAD SPACE and how it would cover all three games, I knew I had to see it。 The fine folks at Titan planned the release of this book to coincide with the release of the third game in the series, and it is a perfect compliment to the epic horror franchise。If you’re a gamer, this book is a Must Own item。 As a huge fan of the series, I am glad to own this beautiful coffee-table book。 But aside from the lavish graphics, readers will get some in-depth and behind-the-scenes information only available here。My favorite aspect of THE ART OF DEAD SPACE is that it covers the whole series and everything within the universe。 This includes characters, creatures, landscapes and locations, vehicles, scenery, and even outer space。 The scope of this book is stunning and the information provided is very comprehensive。From carnage-filled hallways to desolate planetscapes, this book will transport you into the Dead Space universe and immerse you in its depth。 Whether you’re a fan of good art or a diehard gamer, you will love the illustrations and information in this compendium。 Check out THE ART OF DEAD SPACE now。 。。。more
