Summary

I didn’t get very far, about page 40 DNF。 The main character is too annoying, she’s angry all the time and makes dumb choices so far。 Even some things her sister did didn’t make any sense for her character。 The world building is already lacking。 I couldn’t keep going。

The book itself is great, the idea behind it very interesting。 But my choice of three stars is more to do with the writing than the story。 It was more simplistic, and often times I felt the plot and scenes and romance was moving too fast。 The story also has very similar vibes to the Throne of Glass series, so It felt kind of ‘been there done that’Also, this review is just for ruah。 Hi 👋🏼 if u are not ruah, please continue scrolling。 Thank you and goodnight (it’s 2:45am btw)

Going into this book my expectations where average。 I had heard about this book and series for many people, and years later I decided to randomly pick it up。。。SO GLAD I DID。 The world was so imaginative and it was not a lot of work for me to think how this world looked and all of that。 It was truly an immersive story。 Originally I was planning on giving this 4/5⭐️ but THE ENDING SOLD ME! I was not expecting any of it and I had to stop multiple times from chapters 26-28 just being like “Can they get a break?” It was amazing。 I haven’t had a reading experience like this in a while, and it was really nice to be so invested in a story again。 My criticisms are few, but one thing I did not like was the writing。 I felt it was kind of basic, kind of boring and there was some over used words like how Mare referred to the Silvers as “gods” so many times in the story。 The bothered me but honestly the story was so good that I could overlook the writing。 And it’s not like the writing was awful, it just needs to be improve, so with that being said I am willing to cut Red Queen some slack because it was a debut novel。 Now, let’s talk romance。。。。it was a let down。 For the kiss between Mare and Cal I was expecting something good。 Something juicy。 But no。 Basically all we got was just “we kissed” and I hated that。 They are a possible couple in the story and it was just so plain and boring。 I’m really hopping in latter books if they ever do get together we get something better。 At the end of the day I really liked this book。 I enjoyed the politics and seeing the moral of this world。 In a way it reminded me of a combination of Renegades and The Selection。 Anyway, that’s it for now。Happy reading,Bella 。。。more

3。5 rounding down because though I truly enjoyed this, compared to other books I've rated as 4 stars, I just couldn't put this in the ranks of those。 Clean, dystopian, fantastical, "Hunger Games'ish" but with some pretty non-normal humans, teen-focused。 Fast-paced and kept my attention。 Highly recommend it for teens who like this sort of stuff and who won't necessarily miss the fact that it's not "beautifully written literary fiction。" 3。5 rounding down because though I truly enjoyed this, compared to other books I've rated as 4 stars, I just couldn't put this in the ranks of those。 Clean, dystopian, fantastical, "Hunger Games'ish" but with some pretty non-normal humans, teen-focused。 Fast-paced and kept my attention。 Highly recommend it for teens who like this sort of stuff and who won't necessarily miss the fact that it's not "beautifully written literary fiction。" 。。。more

Slight controversial opinion / review coming。 I’m not quite sure what to say about this。 But I must say, I was quite disappointed。 I know so many people that love this。 It is very YA, which I thought I would like。 But I was bored! I’ve never felt so attached, yet so detached, from a story in my life。 Red Queen made me love every single character, but also made me want to scream at everyone the entire time I read it。 Because of this, it took me almost an entire month to finish the book, and about a week to come up with some sound thoughts on how it made me feel。It is only the first book, and to be completely honest, I’m always harshest on the first book in a series because they are usually pretty boring to me, but the stor I’ve never felt so attached, yet so detached, from a story in my life。 Red Queen made me love every single character, but also made me want to scream at everyone the entire time I read it。 Because of this, it took me almost an entire month to finish the book, and about a week to come up with some sound thoughts on how it made me feel。It is only the first book, and to be completely honest, I’m always harshest on the first book in a series because they are usually pretty boring to me, but the story seemed slow and rushed all at once。 It’s hard to explain, really。 We, the readers, meet the main characters quickly, learn the hardships and issues, go through some losses and changes almost immediately, and then read about the daily life of the most annoying and hateful characters that are surrounding the main protagonist。The premise of the story is that people with red blood are lesser than those with silver blood, and those with silver blood have powers。 SPOILER ALERT (not really this is pretty obvious or you wouldn’t have a story) – Mare, the main protagonist, is red blooded with powers。The rest of the story is 100% character development and story plot information that is just thrown in your face。 It was all predictable, slow moving as most of the pertinent information was given in the first 10 chapters or so, and then was filled with a bunch of events and people who mostly don’t show back up, or will at a later time (maybe?)。It wasn’t my favorite book, obviously。 Mare’s story is sort of interesting, so I’m hoping the second book is a little more action packed。 I’m am sort of avoiding it though…。。 。。。more
