Summary

Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside。 She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times 。 。 。 and spying on her neighbors。

Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son。 The perfect family。 But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare。

What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems。

A decent psychological thriller。 A woman with agoraphobia likes to watch her neighbours until one day she witnesses a murder。 There were a few twists in the book, one of them didn't come as a surprise。 Some compare it to Gone Girl, but IMO I didn't think it lived up to that hype。 Whilst I thought this was a good book, it just didn't wow me。 Still a solid 3 1/2 stars though。 A decent psychological thriller。 A woman with agoraphobia likes to watch her neighbours until one day she witnesses a murder。 There were a few twists in the book, one of them didn't come as a surprise。 Some compare it to Gone Girl, but IMO I didn't think it lived up to that hype。 Whilst I thought this was a good book, it just didn't wow me。 Still a solid 3 1/2 stars though。 。。。more

Not my styleIt wasn’t my style of book。 I couldn’t relate to the character。 It was a bit slow for me, but I think because I didn’t like Dr。 Fox。

。。。more

Dr。 Anna Fox struggles with Agoraphobia and her separation from her family has complicated her recovery。 Like Jimmy Stewart’s character in Rear Window, and the other noir pictures Anna favors, she spends her time starring out the window of her New York apartment observing her neighbors。 When she witnesses a murder which she cannot prove and everyone attributes to her delusions, Anna must rely on herself to solve the mystery and keep herself safe。 If you liked Defending Jacob give this thriller a Dr。 Anna Fox struggles with Agoraphobia and her separation from her family has complicated her recovery。 Like Jimmy Stewart’s character in Rear Window, and the other noir pictures Anna favors, she spends her time starring out the window of her New York apartment observing her neighbors。 When she witnesses a murder which she cannot prove and everyone attributes to her delusions, Anna must rely on herself to solve the mystery and keep herself safe。 If you liked Defending Jacob give this thriller a try。 。。。more

Read in two days, it was such a quick and intense thing。 Was super scared the entire last 100 pages but probably because I get scared pretty easily。

After finding out about the bullshit A。J。 Finn concocted in the past, I will not read this book, nor do I care to。I wanted to read it because I did enjoy the film for what it was。 But now, no thanks。

I always look to see how many chapters are in a book before I start the book。。。this one has 100 chapters in under 450 pages! The chapters are very short, so it made for a quick read。 I kind of had a feeling early on what was really going on, but it was a good read getting to that conclusion。 You can definitely feel for Anna and her struggle with being agoraphobic。 Her alcoholism runs deep and makes her double think everything she does, says, and is told。 I definitely read the book before watchin I always look to see how many chapters are in a book before I start the book。。。this one has 100 chapters in under 450 pages! This book took a while to get interested and I almost thought it was going to be a predictable ending but it was a huge plot twist and I’m glad I stuck with it and finished it。 So good!

Loved this thriller! Great twists with only the tiniest of hints scattered throughout。 It’s a pretty easy read, with mostly short chapters so it’s perfect for reading on the subway or keeping in your bag for times you find yourself waiting and don’t want to be on your phone。 However, it gets addictive fast so you’ll probably end up staying in to finish just a few more pages rather than risk leaving and miss a moment of reading。

Absolutely thrilling。 A story told from the most unreliable narrator that keeps you guessing until the end。 Not sure how accurate this depiction of agoraphobia is, but it’s easy to empathize with Anna。 The alcoholism seemed a little overdone with the merlot being mentioned every other sentence though。 The plot moved so fast near the end, and some of the details are definitely unsettling。 For a book that takes place almost entirely in one house, there are a lot of plot twists。

I enjoyed this read。 It moved along quickly and just as I was wondering if maybe we were spending too much time at one point in one subject the book suddenly kicked into action。 I guessed some things but missed many others。 Definitely an entertaining read!

This book is one that needs to be read compulsively and in one sitting。 I actually struggled to put it down。 This is definitely the best thriller I have read in a while。 It is extremely suspenseful and entertaining。 One of the aspects of the book that I believed to be especially interesting and original was Anna’s interest in old, black-and-white thriller movies。 When quotes from the movies were mentioned within Anna’s thinking and dialogue, it was, in a good way, creepy because I found myself q This book is one that needs to be read compulsively and in one sitting。 I actually struggled to put it down。 This is definitely the best thriller I have read in a while。 It is extremely suspenseful and entertaining。 One of the aspects of the book that I believed to be especially interesting and original was Anna’s interest in old, black-and-white thriller movies。 When quotes from the movies were mentioned within Anna’s thinking and dialogue, it was, in a good way, creepy because I found myself questioning her thoughts and relating them to the dialogue from her movies。 I was incredibly impatient while reading to see how it would end, and I was shocked and so satisfied once I finished the last page。 I absolutely loved this book and I recommend it so so so much!!! 。。。more

I would give this book a 5 star review for the story line, but I docked a point for the authors writing style of randomly inserting dreams (I think) and quoting old movies constantly as part of the plot。 Just not my style, but the story was amazing!

Wasn't very thrilling, it was almost dull。 All of the 'twists' were predictable。 I do appreciate Anna dealing with the unique struggle of agoraphobia。 But otherwise the narrator being unreliable due to being an alcoholic is a little over played。 Wasn't very thrilling, it was almost dull。 All of the 'twists' were predictable。 I do appreciate Anna dealing with the unique struggle of agoraphobia。 But otherwise the narrator being unreliable due to being an alcoholic is a little over played。 。。。more

Not a huge fan of thrillers but this one was pretty good。 A couple of cool twists and a couple twists I thought were a bit lame/predictable。 I found the ending to be least enjoyable part of the book。 The mystery was also secondary to other parts of the book I found more interesting- the inner dialogue of Anna, her mental health struggles and her descent from a functioning professional to someone struggling with intense agoraphobia, addiction, anxiety, panic, PTSD and depression。 My favourite sec Not a huge fan of thrillers but this one was pretty good。 A couple of cool twists and a couple twists I thought were a bit lame/predictable。 I found the ending to be least enjoyable part of the book。 The mystery was also secondary to other parts of the book I found more interesting- the inner dialogue of Anna, her mental health struggles and her descent from a functioning professional to someone struggling with intense agoraphobia, addiction, anxiety, panic, PTSD and depression。 My favourite section was when the other characters were causing Anna to question her own reality and to attribute her truth to her mental illness。 Shows that it doesn’t really matter what actually happened as much as what majority choose to believe happened。 Truth and reality are simultaneously subjective and objective。。。。which is a duality I think about often。 。。。more
