A surprisingly good murder mystery read。 The characters （for the most part） are likeable and believable and the dialogue is realistic and natural。 It's no secret who is murdered from the very first page - what is unexpected is that about half the book is told from the dead person's perspective， which is interesting。 I will admit that I figured out who the murderer was fairly early on 。。。 but it didn't lessen my enjoyment of this puzzler。 And， of course， you're never sure you've figured it out un A surprisingly good murder mystery read。 The characters （for the most part） are likeable and believable and the dialogue is realistic and natural。 It's no secret who is murdered from the very first page - what is unexpected is that about half the book is told from the dead person's perspective， which is interesting。 I will admit that I figured out who the murderer was fairly early on 。。。 but it didn't lessen my enjoyment of this puzzler。 And， of course， you're never sure you've figured it out until the author absolutely finishes the story and lets you know you figured it out。 It's becoming almost a cliché to have the story told from various characters' perspective; however， it's one I like， so I allow that cliché to become a standard literary form。 LOL I grew up in a small tourist town in Buck County， PA （New Hope） and then after I stopped teaching， spent a couple years in a different small tourist town in the Pocono Mountains （Jim Thorpe， PA）。 Either one of those towns could have doubled for Summit Lake， the small tourist town which is the setting for most of this novel。 I almost felt as if I knew the stores and coffee shops and restaurants described。 This is a tidy fun well-written and， at times， quite tense mystery。 I recommend it; I guarantee it will go well with a snifter of Harvey's Bristol Cream and a box of Godiva chocolates。 Just sayin'。。。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 Li em um dia e meio e assim， o autor tem uma escrita ok。 Faz com que você vire a página e fique curiosa com o desfecho。Mas é só isso。Me incomodou muito o fato de ele ter escrito sobre violência sexual e como a protagonista se sente com isso já que ele é um homem。 Fiquei com um pé atrás。Além disso， o real culpado era meu suspeito desde o início。 Depois de um acontecimento na história， parei de pensar nele mas sempre com uma informação （63 segundos） que encontrei em mente。Sendo assim， não achei ch Li em um dia e meio e assim， o autor tem uma escrita ok。 Faz com que você vire a página e fique curiosa com o desfecho。Mas é só isso。Me incomodou muito o fato de ele ter escrito sobre violência sexual e como a protagonista se sente com isso já que ele é um homem。 Fiquei com um pé atrás。Além disso， o real culpado era meu suspeito desde o início。 Depois de um acontecimento na história， parei de pensar nele mas sempre com uma informação （63 segundos） que encontrei em mente。Sendo assim， não achei chocante o plot。 Consegui pensar em finais mais interessantes que o escolhido pelo autor。 Muitos personagens e informações foram colocadas na história sem motivo algum， só para confundir e tentar criar profundidade que acaba por não existir。Fora que há uma contradição imensa: a personagem encontra uma autópsia e resolve não imprimir uma cópia。 Poucas cenas depois， ela está com a cópia。 Como assim？ Ela deixou claro que não iria imprimir！ Não tem sentido algum。Não consegui me conectar com nenhum dos personagens， nem mesmo com a jornalista。 O trauma dela foi colocado para comover mas apesar de ser trágico， achei vazio。Por fim， a tradução não é das melhores。 Palavras são repetidas em uma mesma sentença， por exemplo。No geral: leia se quiser passar o tempo， acredito que a curiosidade será despertada mas não espere grandes revelações。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 This book is told from 2 POV's - In the past from Becca， the college student that is brutally murdered and In the present from Kelsey， a journalist that is hoping a trip to Summit Lake to report on Becca's death will help give her some much needed closure from a recent traumatic experience。 As Kelsey digs into the story and uncovers more than the local police do， she quickly discovers that things aren't what they appear to be。 There are a lot of secrets in Summit Lake that are further 3。5 stars。 This book is told from 2 POV's - In the past from Becca， the college student that is brutally murdered and In the present from Kelsey， a journalist that is hoping a trip to Summit Lake to report on Becca's death will help give her some much needed closure from a recent traumatic experience。 As Kelsey digs into the story and uncovers more than the local police do， she quickly discovers that things aren't what they appear to be。 There are a lot of secrets in Summit Lake that are further fueled by untruths via the local gossip mill。 Although I enjoyed reading this book， I felt that there were a lot of things that 'came together' at the end in a very coincidence type fashion。 It just seemed implausible that there was a cover up to this murder （which I never fully understood why） and then other events just kind of fell into place。 Overall， it was well-written and kept up a good pace， but the ending just didn't feel right to me。 。。。more

After I enjoyed reading the two Rory and Lane books by Charlie Donlea， I decided to jump head first in his debut。 A lot of goods things here， but also some serious flaws。 Lets get the irking things out of the way: the protagonist are a bunch of students， which immediately gives it a very young feeling。 But then the adults， like reporter Kelsey， are behaving just as immaturely。 Her interactions with others reminds me of a 20 year old and that love story made my eyes roll。 Also many other charact After I enjoyed reading the two Rory and Lane books by Charlie Donlea， I decided to jump head first in his debut。 A lot of goods things here， but also some serious flaws。 Lets get the irking things out of the way: the protagonist are a bunch of students， which immediately gives it a very young feeling。 But then the adults， like reporter Kelsey， are behaving just as immaturely。 Her interactions with others reminds me of a 20 year old and that love story made my eyes roll。 Also many other characters are immature and made the whole book feel a bit YA rather than serious novel。 The mystery remains a mystery for me as the conclusions didn't make much sense : the whole police deployment at the end for example， coincidental deaths， police and witnesses that start to divulge their secrets to the first reporting passing by。 I'm trying to avoid spoilers here， but nope， not much sense indeed。 Another thing that irked me are the mature themes （rape， unplanned pregnancy） that are dealt with in the same way a conservative school would with young students: delicately explain the problem and the appropriate response and solutions and then miraculously， the problem disappears。 Seriously？ Why did I keep on reading？ Well， the start was promising and the mystery intriguing。 The writing style is swift and concise。 Addictive short chapters that read quickly and want you to read the next one to know more。 Because this is a debut， I'm prepared to overlook the flaws and I will probably read this author again。 。。。more
