Well, this was disappointing。 I've been trying to get my hands on this one for ages, but now I wish I could exile it from my mind。 It was just so mediocre, nothing about it was special。 I think my main problem with this has to be the flipping of the tropes。 I admire that this made our female heroine a strong character, but in doing so, it butchered her character。 Other than being strong, she had no personality。 Same thing with Luca。 Other than needing to be saved, he was nothing。 And he couldn't Well, this was disappointing。 I've been trying to get my hands on this one for ages, but now I wish I could exile it from my mind。 It was just so mediocre, nothing about it was special。 I think my main problem with this has to be the flipping of the tropes。 I admire that this made our female heroine a strong character, but in doing so, it butchered her character。 Other than being strong, she had no personality。 Same thing with Luca。 Other than needing to be saved, he was nothing。 And he couldn't do anything for himself! Every time he got in trouble, he waited for Ama to save him, even if he couldn't escaped。 This got old quite fast considering the entire book was him being in trouble。 I also hated the driving romance。 It was nothing。 At all。 I felt nothing for it。 If the entire book is going to be characters fighting for each other, I want to feel the connection。 In this, there was no connection。 I kinda want to be done with this book, so this is stuck being a short review。 Basically, this book is both boring and bland, and I'm not excited for the second book at all 。。。more

This is an inspired retelling version of The Princess Bride, yes inspired means it has some things but not expect it to be like it。 The worldbuilding seemed to be good but felt a bit flat, would've wanted to find more about this world。 The characters are interesting but expected more of them。 I got to read this as I got the second book to review, so off to that one。 Blog |BookBub | Amazon |Audible |Instagram |Twitter |Facebook |TikTok |YouTube |Pinterest |Tumblr |Bookstore This is an inspired retelling version of The Princess Bride, yes inspired means it has some things but not expect it to be like it。 The worldbuilding seemed to be good but felt a bit flat, would've wanted to find more about this world。 The characters are interesting but expected more of them。 I got to read this as I got the second book to review, so off to that one。 Blog |BookBub | Amazon |Audible |Instagram |Twitter |Facebook |TikTok |YouTube |Pinterest |Tumblr |Bookstore 。。。more

The Princess Will Save You was a nice break from the stereotypical princess story。 It began as a simple story but it leads into a much more complex plot with political intrigue and machinations。 On the most basic level, this is a story of a girl saving the stable boy, almost a reverse of the Princess Bride; however the political backstabbing and scheming on the part of so many characters was what made me want to keep reading this book。 Amarande is the princess of Ardenia who is quickly catapulte The Princess Will Save You was a nice break from the stereotypical princess story。 It began as a simple story but it leads into a much more complex plot with political intrigue and machinations。 On the most basic level, this is a story of a girl saving the stable boy, almost a reverse of the Princess Bride; however the political backstabbing and scheming on the part of so many characters was what made me want to keep reading this book。 Amarande is the princess of Ardenia who is quickly catapulted to queen, who must marry, after her father's untimely death。 This leads to the kidnapping of the stableboy, Luca, with whom she has grown up and cares for more than anyone else。 Luca's steadfast belief that Ama will come for him seems so out of place; however as I kept reading you realize that Amarande is a strong facinating character who would do anything for her friend and her country and will not be manipulated by those around her。 Her desire to stay strong regardless of what it may cost her endeared her to me。Overall, this book was well written and I look forward to reading the sequel。Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC to review honestly。 。。。more

The only reason I finished this book was because I can't return it。 I hated it so much。 It wasn't just "inspired by" The Princess Bride, parts of the story were just lifted from the Princess Bride and altered slightly。 And it's so obvious which characters in this book were just taken from Princess Bride and changed slightly。 And the theme was so heavy handed and annoying。 "Love always wins" over and over and over again。 I'm also extremely tired of stories where "strong" women have to fight back The only reason I finished this book was because I can't return it。 I hated it so much。 It wasn't just "inspired by" The Princess Bride, parts of the story were just lifted from the Princess Bride and altered slightly。 And it's so obvious which characters in this book were just taken from Princess Bride and changed slightly。 And the theme was so heavy handed and annoying。 "Love always wins" over and over and over again。 I'm also extremely tired of stories where "strong" women have to fight back against a male dominated world, where "strong" means masculine。 Never mind the bad writing as well。 The narration jumps all over the place and it gets confusing at times。 And the plot was so predictable。 There was only one "twist" that I didn't figure out on my own。 The narrator didn't help either。 She just drones on in this monotone, emotionless reading。 tl;dr: I hated every second of this book and I'm glad it's over。 I wish I could give it 0 stars。 。。。more

This was so fast-paced and cinematic, I came away feeling as though I'd watched a YA Netflix show。 So many plot twists, lots of handsome young people giving each other flirty side-eye and finding 'true love' at 16 (particularly jarring in this one, when up against the attempt at a serious political plot), even an epilogue to set up the sequel that makes a huge, in no way foreshadowed, reveal。 It's enjoyable but kind of silly。 I'm probably getting too old to take kids in their mid-teens saving th This was so fast-paced and cinematic, I came away feeling as though I'd watched a YA Netflix show。 So many plot twists, lots of handsome young people giving each other flirty side-eye and finding 'true love' at 16 (particularly jarring in this one, when up against the attempt at a serious political plot), even an epilogue to set up the sequel that makes a huge, in no way foreshadowed, reveal。 It's enjoyable but kind of silly。 I'm probably getting too old to take kids in their mid-teens saving the world seriously, but I do love the actively feminist turn YA is taking。 Rounding up to three because it was pretty fun。 。。。more

I was excited to have a fun, light read with this book and。。 well。。 It was definitely light。。。I found the plot predictable so everything intending to be dramatic and intense kind of missed their mark。 The plot mysteries and the problems that the characters encountered were so easy solved that they were quasi unrealistic。 As a result, all the stakes were completely lowered and my connection to the story wavered a lot。 I found the characters to be endearing yet stale nonetheless。 I love characters I was excited to have a fun, light read with this book and。。 well。。 It was definitely light。。。I found the plot predictable so everything intending to be dramatic and intense kind of missed their mark。 The plot mysteries and the problems that the characters encountered were so easy solved that they were quasi unrealistic。 As a result, all the stakes were completely lowered and my connection to the story wavered a lot。 I found the characters to be endearing yet stale nonetheless。 I love characters that embody stereotypical fantasy tropes but what was weird here was the dialogue。 I recognised the effort to creates varying degrees of intimacy between the characters and sometimes it worked very well, but most of the time I just repeated to myself "no one speaks like this"。 Despite what I say I did enjoy it! It was a fun, quick read that whisked me away from reality for a while and I'm thankful for this。 But my lack of investment in the book as a whole proves that either I read it at the wrong time or it was just not for me。。。 。。。more

I was first attracted to this because Charlie Bowater illustrated the cover so plus points for that!I’m not familiar with the “Princess Bride” so I can’t vouch to how accurate this is as a retelling but I did like the whole princess/commoner forbidden romance going on and how the badass princess comes to save the kidnapped stableboy which is a nice change from the usual boy rescues girl narrative。 The main lead is such a baddie and I love how she’s so strong and confident in herself and that she I was first attracted to this because Charlie Bowater illustrated the cover so plus points for that!I’m not familiar with the “Princess Bride” so I can’t vouch to how accurate this is as a retelling but I did like the whole princess/commoner forbidden romance going on and how the badass princess comes to save the kidnapped stableboy which is a nice change from the usual boy rescues girl narrative。 The main lead is such a baddie and I love how she’s so strong and confident in herself and that she went as far as to kill a few of the bad guys。 I also liked her love interest, he was sweet and a genuine good guy。 It was fun seeing them form unlikely friendships with the “pirates”as well given how entertaining it was reading the banter they had with them。My only issue with this was that it wasn’t as compelling or engaging。 The writing felt flat to me and predictable。 There wasn’t much character depth so I wasn’t invested in them as much。 But I did enjoy where things were headed towards the end and the cliffhanger definitely had me intrigued enough to read the sequel。Overall, if you love the tropes mentioned above and you’re looking for a quick, fun YA read then I recommend checking this out! 。。。more

There’s no doubt about it that the side characters stole the whole book。And the plot twists were such good timing。 I was never able to guess that that identity turned out to be that person。

*spoilers*This was fine? I don't have much attachment to The Princess Bride, so I won't really compare it to that story。 I will say though I remember the movie being quite funny/camp which made it charming, and I think attempts to do the same here fell flat and it was a little cringe :/I enjoyed the beginning where Amarande was learning she wasn't as prepared for the world as she had hoped, but she was still going to pursue Luca, without severely harming anyone in the process。 There was also an *spoilers*This was fine? And I honestly cannot wait for the next one。 There were quite a few twists and turns。 Sometimes I could not stop reading and other times I didn’t mind putting the book down for a break。 I genuinely had to pause the book for my exams and when I came back to it, I started with a reread of the previous chapters。 The ending was especially amazing, I was literally jumping off my seat and I had to close the book multiple times just to get my breathing in order。 Amarande, I absolutely loved this book! The Princess Will Save You was fine but not a book that blew me away。 I did like the Princess Bride aspects of the story and the relationship between Amarande and Luca。 However the plot and writing were rather mediocre, equating to the three star rating。 The novel's epilogue sets up nicely for the second book, which I will be reading in the near future。 The Princess Will Save You was fine but not a book that blew me away。 I did like the Princess Bride aspects of the story and the relationship between Amarande and Luca。 However the plot and writing were rather mediocre, equating to the three star rating。 The novel's epilogue sets up nicely for the second book, which I will be reading in the near future。 。。。more

I had to skim-read the last 25% because I just needed it to be done。 All in all, this was a huge disappointment。 I was hoping for an unpopular opinion, but it turns out that the crowds are right about this one。 If you want a decent Sarah Henning book, go read Sea Witch。 I'll be busy trying to forget this train wreck exists。 。。。more

A driving epic tale that has the necessary pieces: young love, tragedy, a quest, a great adventure, and travel through numerous lands。 I really thought this was a riveting book。 Until the end: it lost one star for me because I felt it left me hanging。 Hopefully this will mean there will be a second book coming to wrap up the loose ends left at the end (please)。
