This book is just not good。 It makes no sense and the writing style is boring。 I get what they were trying to do but the execution was just terrible。 Also where are all the gay people??

I hope I don’t go to hell for this rating。 I never do not finish a book I start and it was a goal of mine to read the Bible cover to cover。 Painful and so hard for me to follow。 I read a bit each day (started 4/1 and finished 7/4 Sunday (fitting) eve with fireworks popping outside (again, fitting)。 Glad that goal is now finished!

well。。。 i don't even know where to begin lol。 obviously this is less about the writing of the book itself and more about my experience and journey with reading it。 it took me a really long time, almost 3 years to finish from cover to cover, but i only actually read it for 104 days out of that, which is a spiritual lesson in itself。the first thing i want to really say is that i am NOT an evangelical republican WASP christian who is out to convert everyone and condemn anyone whose actions i don't well。。。 i don't even know where to begin lol。 obviously this is less about the writing of the book itself and more about my experience and journey with reading it。 it took me a really long time, almost 3 years to finish from cover to cover, but i only actually read it for 104 days out of that, which is a spiritual lesson in itself。the first thing i want to really say is that i am NOT an evangelical republican WASP christian who is out to convert everyone and condemn anyone whose actions i don't agree with to hell :) part of my decision to read this was precisely because that's what the Bible evokes in the minds of many people。 i wanted to see what this religion had to say about God and in doing so improve my own relationship with God。 as far as that goes this was a success。 it's really helped me to see what is actually the tenets of the Christian religion versus what is the religion being bastardized into a justification for someone's own beliefs。 the Bible is not only a book of stories, but there are social and political contracts within it that are specific to a place, time, and people (especially OT), and disparate clauses from these contracts have been blown out of proportion and literally weaponized against people。 all this to say: it has to be taken in context as well as with a grain of salt。spiritually speaking, it's kind of surprising how comforting so much of the Bible was。 psalms, job, song of solomon, and parts of the gospel (ofc) especially。 there was something greater than the sum of its parts about reading a comforting verse while holding the Bible in my hands, which felt very beautiful and special。 the permanence, the unconditional love, and the mercy of God were themes that stood out to me throughout my reading because of the almost simple way they were presented in。 even some of the more tangible messages (on greed & corruption especially) felt like they applied to today's world。surprisingly, Jesus was in a very small fraction of the Bible as a whole (by name, i mean)。 given this and the style that the Bible is written in, i was almost surprised to find that i felt the power of his life, Passion, and message through the page。there are a million more things i could say about the Bible and my experience reading it, but i just wanted to get down a quick impression of my thoughts on here after i finished。 i WOULD recommend a few books from the Bible: those mentioned above, 1 and 2 Samuel, i liked John best out of the gospels, 1 Corinthians, Daniel, Jonah, and I'm probably forgetting some others。 。。。more

The main feature of this Bible is that it does not feature verse numbers or section headings, and it is organized in a single (rather than double) column。 Other than that it is a standard ESV Bible。I really enjoyed this Bible, and think it is important for every Christian to go through a reader Bible at least once。 The lack of sectioning makes it easier to see what the authors are intending to say and talk about (as opposed to being told by a section heading what a publisher believes they are ta The main feature of this Bible is that it does not feature verse numbers or section headings, and it is organized in a single (rather than double) column。 Other than that it is a standard ESV Bible。I really enjoyed this Bible, and think it is important for every Christian to go through a reader Bible at least once。 The lack of sectioning makes it easier to see what the authors are intending to say and talk about (as opposed to being told by a section heading what a publisher believes they are talking about) - it gives you a better framework for heading the Bible more like how the original audience did。I highly recommend this Bible, but really, almost any reader Bible is good for a Christian to utilize in their studies and devotions。 。。。more

I made a goal for myself to read through the Bible in a year, starting on my birthday。 Finished today after 356 days (9 days early!) of consecutive reading。 Thankful for this gift of reading cover to cover and the Living Word that’s just as alive today as when it was written。

Amy Bharucha

bit contrived in places but overall a solid read 👍

I can’t lie, I haven’t read this book cover to cover but I think during my Catholic Education I must’ve read the entirety of it。The reason for this review is that I haven’t figured out how to post a status update and I just wanted to say, I haven’t read any of Chomsky’s books but I’ve heard him speak and I’m so looking forward to the copy of ‘On Anarchism’ I just ordered!!

Matilda

judas was the real hero。

Jason

It is a personal journey

Jesse Kessler

If you just need a Bible to take to church and use in studies and groups, this is probably the default choice。An accurate translation in excellent modern English, but retaining some influence of the classic phrasing from the King James tradition, where appropriate, which may be more familiar to many people。

Emily Mettam

The main character fuckin dies。

shayna

ehh not enough taylor swift…

Mackenna

honestly? pretty wordy。 kinda problematic。 no clear story line。 was it fiction? nonfiction? really hard to tell。 has some rly pretty poems! would recommend song of songs though! very smutty🤩

Kora Jones

Could be gayer and should be。 Bit long winded, loved the betrayal subplot however at times it appears to have plot holes dotted throughout。 Not an easy read , 3/10 wouldn’t highly recommend and definitely shouldn’t have as big as a fandom as it does in my opinion。

charvi

too long。 needs more gay。

ADarkerShadeOfShrek

A perfect example of a book where the antagonist is way more interesting than the hero

Jacob Wood

One of the greatest books on earth when it comes to detailed storytelling and visceral metaphors。 The biggest downside is whenever there is the mention of family hierarchies and lineage。 X was the son of Y。 Y the son of Z etc。

Freya Martin

idk dude, not enough representation, there’s this one guy who lives in the sky and created shit and then he had a son with a virgin? the son was cool but why does everyone think he was white?! it wasn’t very believable and very clearly set in a fantasy world

Mary

I’m very confused about all the people saying that it’s not gay enough。 Did we not read the same book? Jesus has 12 boyfriends and at one point they were all washing each other’s feet naked。 That’s pretty gay ngl。 There are some super problematic parts that make this unenjoyable though。 What’s with all the stoning woman to death?!? All the hate of women in gay books is so problematic smh。 Also genocide? Slavery? Filicide? ALSO YOU KILLED OFF THE MAIN CHARACTER WITHOUT WARNING?? THAT WAS BS!! 1/5。 Eh。 The fangirls for this fandom are a little too obsessed。

Worst work of fiction I ever read。 Did the author even try? I mean is the "main character" the protagonist or the antagonist or both?He goes from hero to heathen in less time it takes to bake bread。 Seriously, one minute he is all healing the sick and disabled and turning water into wine the next he is cursing the villagers he calls "Sinners" (RUDE!) and sending a flood to kill everyone because what? He's PMSing?? (Seriously dude, eat a Snickers。 You're not you when you're hungry。)Also, why you Worst work of fiction I ever read。 Did the author even try?
