Summary

Meet Mars! The red planet。 Planet Marvelous。 Favorite sibling of Earth (or so he claims)。 Sometimes they're close (just 34。5 million miles apart)。 Sometimes they need space (250 million miles apart)! Earth and Mars have a lot in common--clouds, mountains, polar icecaps。 And while Earth has Earthlings, Mars makes a persuasive case for why people should make the journey to spend time with him。 His day is 7 minutes longer! He is home to the largest volcano in the whole solar system。 He's, well, marvelous。

McAnulty's Solar System books are SO CUTE!! Mars dubs himself the "Party Planet," and I have no idea why he is the "party planet," but it was so much fun to keep saying "party planet" that I don't even care。 He is, of course, Earth's closest neighbor, and he is so excited to have humans come and visit him someday。 There is a fun little "quiz" at the end, with possible answers: Mars, Earth, Both。 McAnulty's Solar System books are SO CUTE!! A lightweight introduction for young learners。In the fifth title in the "Our Universe" picture book series, the planet Mars tells young readers and listeners all about himself: by comparing himself with the other planets by size, order from the sun, and by composition (rocky planets)。 He offers multiple comparisons to Earth in distance apart; length of day; number of moons; largest volcano and deepest canyon; etc。, and explorations by man。 Backmatter includes several questions based on statement A lightweight introduction for young learners。In the fifth title in the "Our Universe" picture book series, the planet Mars tells young readers and listeners all about himself: by comparing himself with the other planets by size, order from the sun, and by composition (rocky planets)。 He offers multiple comparisons to Earth in distance apart; length of day; number of moons; largest volcano and deepest canyon; etc。, and explorations by man。 Backmatter includes several questions based on statements in the book, a few statistics about Mars, a short timeline of Mars' history, and sources used by the author。Told tongue-in-cheek, this light and lively treatment is just right for its intended audience。 As she has done with other titles in this series, McAnulty includes plenty of humor when inviting kids to visit Mars in the future。 The text is chatty, with a limited vocabulary - which makes this a good candidate to use as informational nonfiction for beginning readers。 Illustrations by Stevie Lewis were created using color pencils and digital tools。 They are full of whimsy and charm。Unfortunately this is already a little dated, as there is no mention of the Perseverance Rover's historic trip to Mars or Ingenuity's helicopter flight in April 2021。 Nonetheless, this is a worthy addition to units on space exploration and the planets。Recommended for PreSchool-grade 2。 。。。more

Love this cheeky series of “autobiographies” by the planets themselves, with the help of Stacy McAnulty。 Lots of fun info from this party planet。 Love the rovers, wonder if they will update the book to include Perseverance? Mars refers to herself as a female in the text, but in the back matter Mars is referred to as a male。 As Mars says: be classy, not gassy! Hope we hear from the remains planets soon!

I just love these books。 I wish they were around when I was in school。 I always hated science class, never understanding what was being taught。 I feel like I would have done better in school if I had books like Stacy McAnulty's。 They're so interesting! Mars! Earthlings Welcome is the fifth children's picture book in the Our Universe series written by Stacy McAnulty and illustrated by Stevie Lewis, which stars Mars as a excited and jubilant planet with a happy attitude and planet sized arms。McAnulty's text is rather simplistic and straightforward。 It is an anthropomorphic story about Mars and its relations within the Earth。 Facts are shared excitedly, with a party planet exuberance voice。 Information about Mars attractions form moons Deimos and Mars! I received an electronic ARC from MacMillan Children's Publishing Group。I love this series byt McAnulty! Planetary science information shared in an easy to follow format for elementary level readers。 The illustrations are humorous and provide information about Mars。 The story is told from Mar's POV so readers learn about the planet from the planet itself。Clever text and delightful illustrations。 I received an electronic ARC from MacMillan Children's Publishing Group。I love this series byt McAnulty!
