Summary

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her。 But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life。

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine。 When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world。

The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this #1 New York Times bestselling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget。

An instant #1 New York Times Bestseller in its very first week! Presented by James Patterson's children's imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion。。。

4。5Honestly I don’t know why I put this book off for so long but it was good。 Definitely had an extremely slow buildup IMO but after it flew by。 Definitely will be writing a better review later:)

This is the right mix of history and implausibility to work。 My biggest beef was the repeated mentions of Audrey Rose's corset being akin to a torture device。 This is the right mix of history and implausibility to work。 My biggest beef was the repeated mentions of Audrey Rose's corset being akin to a torture device。 。。。more

Not gonna lie, the mc comes off as a pick me girl, and the love interest made me want to kick him multiple times。 The only reason I continued reading was for the flirting because it reminded me a little bit of Will Herondale (and also to find out who dun it)。 The flow of the story was lacking, and I found it hard at times to pay attention to what was happening。 Despite rereading the same passages multiple times, I still found myself confused about why they were at certain locations。 So as you ca Not gonna lie, the mc comes off as a pick me girl, and the love interest made me want to kick him multiple times。 The only reason I continued reading was for the flirting because it reminded me a little bit of Will Herondale (and also to find out who dun it)。 The flow of the story was lacking, and I found it hard at times to pay attention to what was happening。 Despite rereading the same passages multiple times, I still found myself confused about why they were at certain locations。 So as you can see, I’m clearly disappointed with this book。 。。。more

I love this book so much! It made my heart race, I love the main characters and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Lots of forced feminism / directly telling you MC is a feminist and “not like other girls”。 Could have used more showing, rather than telling the reader that。 Despite that, I enjoyed it and found it to be a quick rather engaging read。

How come nowadays people became so sensitive about certain topics, I swear。 As it's said in one video I watched earlier, things Gen Z is gonna cancel by 2030-40: Gyms, because they host people who exercise and who make the non-exercising ones feel insecure; braces - because they make your teeth straight which is homophobic, toothpaste - because it makes your teeth white; cards, because kings beat queens which is sexist; chess, because white pieces get the first move and the list goes on and on。 How come nowadays people became so sensitive about certain topics, I swear。 As it's said in one video I watched earlier, things Gen Z is gonna cancel by 2030-40: Gyms, because they host people who exercise and who make the non-exercising ones feel insecure; braces - because they make your teeth straight which is homophobic, toothpaste - because it makes your teeth white; cards, because kings beat queens which is sexist; chess, because white pieces get the first move and the list goes on and on。 I agree with some things, but these are truly pathetic。 The book is not that bad as some reviewers say。 It's a work of fiction after all。 And yes, the feminism here is kinda poorly written but what about it, let it be, if you don't like it, just leave it。 I liked the book, it was interesting, though might have been even more so if the plot was a bit more spicy , and I am not even talking about the "romance" between the too。 I usually dislike books with lack of romance (even though there were some parts but like, I don't classify this as romance), but this one was interesting, the mystery was, though it could have been a little better if it was as i said, a little spicier with the mysteries and a little bit more of concern for the murdered women in the feelings of the protagonist。 But really, it as a great book。I even thought it was gonna be a romance between the girl and Jack the Ripper (as I hadn't read the synopsis beforehand) and I was really curious to see how it's all gonna happen, and actually was a bit concerned for the mentality of the protagonist girl, but it's all good now。 Though Audrey Rose is not one of my favorite female protagonists I have read of。 。。。more

I loved this take on the Jack the Ripper case。 Audrey Rose apprentices in forensic medicine with her uncle, much to her father's dismay, as it's improper and against societies "norm"。 Audrey and another of her uncles students, Thomas, are determined to figure out who "Jack the Ripper" is and to find justice for the women he killed。 I loved the writing style, it felt right for the era of the novel and I also really like the added measure of some real, period photos, it gave it an extra authentic I loved this take on the Jack the Ripper case。 Audrey Rose apprentices in forensic medicine with her uncle, much to her father's dismay, as it's improper and against societies "norm"。 Audrey and another of her uncles students, Thomas, are determined to figure out who "Jack the Ripper" is and to find justice for the women he killed。 I loved the writing style, it felt right for the era of the novel and I also really like the added measure of some real, period photos, it gave it an extra authentic vibe。 I'm looking forward to reading the rest in the series 🥰 。。。more

With only 140 pages in I already knew who Jack the Ripper was。 I enjoyed the story as a whole, but I gave it 2 stars, because it was bloody predictable。 I hope the sequel is a better whodunit。

This was an excellent read! Kerri's ability to blend historical facts/events with fictional storytelling was very well done。 You can tell that she researched the case of Jack the Ripper and with a few necessary liberties for the story, kept things accurate。 I love Audrey Rose's character and her desire to pursue her dreams, even those considered more "men's work", while still enjoying things considered more appropriate for women。 I also enjoyed her and Thomas's relationship and how it developed This was an excellent read! I didn't feel the mystery at all, and I found the romance part kinda 'meh'。 I predicted who's who, but I pictured in my head all the disgusting details (that's good)。 I felt the goriness, but not the thrill I expected it would give me。 Am i going to continue this book series? I'd give it a try。 I hope the next one will be good。 I didn't feel the mystery at all, and I found the romance part kinda 'meh'。 I predicted who's who, but I pictured in my head all the disgusting details (that's good)。 I felt the goriness, but not the thrill I expected it would give me。 Am i going to continue this book series? I've been hearing about this book for a while—through blogs, Twitter, and, more recently, BookTok—but I never really felt the need to pick it up until I found a copy of it in the break room at work and decided I might as well give it a shot (I needed a break from the non-fiction)。 And, as I usually seem to be with books lately, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it。I think this enjoyment can be largely attributed to Kerri Maniscalco's writing style。 Their descriptions were brief an I've been hearing about this book for a while—through blogs, Twitter, and, more recently, BookTok—but I never really felt the need to pick it up until I found a copy of it in the break room at work and decided I might as well give it a shot (I needed a break from the non-fiction)。 And, as I usually seem to be with books lately, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it。I think this enjoyment can be largely attributed to Kerri Maniscalco's writing style。 Their descriptions were brief and to-the-point, but painted beautiful (and gruesome) pictures, and the characters' dialogue, though appropriate to the time period, still sounded realistic and flowed well。 And I know you're not supposed to judge books by their covers and all that, but, personally, I do find formatting choices—chapter length, font, spacing, etc。—do affect my reading, and, subsequently, how much I love a book。 (We're talking, like, 。5 star differences here, though, I promise—it's not a HUGE thing。) But the formatting of 'Stalking Jack The Ripper' definitely worked to its advantage, in my book。 The chapter titles and photos alongside them helped immerse the reader into the novel, the font and spacing were very easy to read, and—in the particular version I was reading, at least—the extra chapters at the end from Thomas's point of view actually made me dislike him less, which I suppose helps overall。Writing style and formatting aside, I found the pacing of 'Stalking Jack The Ripper' to be decent, but a couple aspects of the plot could've been more well-done, in my opinion。 I've always been a fan of the theory that Jack The Ripper stopped killing because someone else killed him first—and it makes sense to me that this killer would've been one, or maybe a group of, the girls he was targeting。 I mention this because, to be completely honest, I think something like that is what I was expecting from 'Stalking Jack The Ripper。' Instead, I got much more of a Sherlock Holmes-type mystery, and a great deal more romance than I was expecting (though, I have to admit, it still wasn't a lot)。 Which isn't bad—just not as to my taste。I do just have to say—because of course I have to brag—I predicted who Jack The Ripper was in the first half of the book。 I was surprised by how Maniscalco revealed their identity, though, and by how 。 。 。 abrupt the whole ending seemed? I think I would've liked that aspect of 'Stalking Jack The Ripper' to have been extended upon, with Maniscalco really giving the characters a chance to react to Jack The Ripper's identity as well as including more of an exploration into their motivations。Altogether, I really enjoyed 'Stalking Jack The Ripper。' Maniscalco acknowledges the creative liberties they've taken with The Ripper's cases, and I definitely want to clarify this isn't any critique on Maniscalco's fictionalized version of Jack The Ripper—I understand this is just fun fiction! I just feel like certain plot points could've been expanded upon, but overall, Maniscalco's writing style is fantastic, and 'Stalking Jack The Ripper' is a very solid 3。5 stars, in my opinion。 。。。more

I honestly thought I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as to give it a 4 star but I did。 I enjoy the characters and even tho I don’t read mystery it was a nice first read。 Of course by the end I figured out who the killer was but through the book I liked guessing and looking for clues。 I think it was nicely written
