Summary

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary。 Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears。 Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge。 Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior。 Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

to quote the back of the book… this book is “wickedly clever”, “ingenious”, “irresistible”, and “razor-sharp”。 i have never read a book that i literally couldn’t put down, this book was one of those。 there were so many plot twists and cliffhangers that i just had to keep reading to see what happened。 pleaseeeee read this book it is so good。

I am so glad I didn’t pick this book up when I was 13。 Mainly because I was still recovering from the girl on the train but this book is another mess。It is superbly constructed with such a good pace and has honestly left me terrified。 I will try to forget this storyline and Amy but I don’t think I ever can。Everything she did… I can’t even put into words。 What kind of person does this?? It was a thriller book so what did I expect but this is one of the best and darkest thriller you would probably I am so glad I didn’t pick this book up when I was 13。 Mainly because I was still recovering from the girl on the train but this book is another mess。It is superbly constructed with such a good pace and has honestly left me terrified。 I will try to forget this storyline and Amy but I don’t think I ever can。Everything she did… I can’t even put into words。 What kind of person does this?? I’ve seen the movie so I wasn’t sure if I would be bored reading this book。。 I wasn’t! A bit slow to start, but a good read overall

THIS BOOK。 This is exactly what I needed。 This is one of those books I looked forward to picking up。 After the plot twist… I could not put it down。 I stayed up until 5:00am to finish this book because I NEEDED to know what happened。 I also happen to love a book that is told by different perspectives - this goes back and forth from the two main characters。 The ending also threw me for a loop。

If you’re into toxic relationship, unstable characters, murder, and thriller then please read this book。 The first part of the book (boy loses girl) was slow and kinda boring, but things take a turn in the second part。 To be honest, I predicted the plot twists and now I am concerned about my sanity (because I guess Amy and I are on the same wavelength?¿)。 Either way, the book was entertaining and the characters flaws were well developed and portrayed。 I didn’t like the ending (hence the 4/5 star If you’re into toxic relationship, unstable characters, murder, and thriller then please read this book。 The first part of the book (boy loses girl) was slow and kinda boring, but things take a turn in the second part。 To be honest, I predicted the plot twists and now I am concerned about my sanity (because I guess Amy and I are on the same wavelength?¿)。 Either way, the book was entertaining and the characters flaws were well developed and portrayed。 I didn’t like the ending (hence the 4/5 stars) but it’s the most realistic… 。。。more

I don't know if it's the book that made my hands shake or the coffee? Probably the book。First, let me celebrate finally getting into this book that has been on my tbr for two years and on my bookshelves for a year。 Yey!Second what a minfuck! Well, it's not about the plot twists as much as it's about the characters, what an Amy! and a Nick! Nick was the one we had much access to his internal thoughts。I loved EVERY character, or let me say I loved the way the author tackled every character。I wasn' I don't know if it's the book that made my hands shake or the coffee? Well, it's not about the plot twists as much as it's about the characters, what an Amy! and a Nick! Nick was the one we had much access to his internal thoughts。I loved EVERY character, or let me say I loved the way the author tackled every character。I wasn't a fun of the book as much as I was a fun of the author herself and I'm so eager to pich up more of her book and watch the movie too because I'd love to see psycho bitch Amy, Amazing Amy, Diary Amy, all of the Amys。I loved how the story played us, how at some point in the book you hated Nick so much, you hated his guts to the point you wished him jail not because he did it but because he's a lying asshole。 And what a beautiful surprise to learn that you were played and who is more of a lying asshole than Nick。 It's was so much fun。 Well, I wasn't that surprised at the first plot twist, I've always knew that Diary Amy is nothing like real Amy, I knew she wasn't a victim amd never will be and every polt twist after that didn't surprise me to the point I gasp。 But the ending tho, that shit really made me gasp it was crazy yet satisfying, call me what you want but I found it very satisfying。 You know that thing we tell the women in an unhappy marriage with a cheating husband "Hang in there, be a perfect wife, stay for your kids, he'll change, he'll be better。" In the book, it was the other way around and I liked that duality, it was still aweful but I liked it。Honestly, I think that's what would happen in every relationship if the couple did have cold blood, a sense of perfection, undying confidence and patience。 Relationships are so fucking complex and silence makes it even worse and God Amy! What a sick sociopath! I'm impressed and disgusted but mostly impressed。 。。。more

“Any made me believe I was exceptional, that I was up to her level of play。 That was both of our undoing。 Because I couldn’t handle the demands of greatness。 I began craving ease and average-ness, and I hated myself for it, and ultimately, I realized, I punished her for it。” Great character development。 Amy is one of my favorite antagonists。 Liked it more than I thought I would。

4。3 from me。 It was brilliant。

T-Chan

Great thriller read with a lot of twists and turns but disappointing and weirdly flat ending。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I expected better。 Really enjoyed the first half of the book but when Desi came into it, it was too far fetched。 The ending was the deal breaker for me, ridiculous ending。

It's a 3。5 for me。 Very fun, dark, twisted。 I love how Flynn writes, Amy is a protagonist for the ages。 It's a 3。5 for me。 Very fun, dark, twisted。 I love how Flynn writes, Amy is a protagonist for the ages。 。。。more

“How do you know you’re not Cool Girl? Because he says things like: ‘I like strong women。’ If he says that to you, he will at some point fuck someone else。 Because ‘I like strong women’ is code for ‘I hate strong women。’”

Sandy Thynne

I wasn’t sure what to say about this book when I first finished reading it。 Halfway through, I was enjoying the mystery and the writing was interesting。 Then the story devolved into a self-absorbed litany of excuses from characters I didn’t care about and was actually starting to dislike。 The ending was rubbish。

R

WHAT TYE AFTUAL FUCK。 That’s all I have to say。 LIKE HOW。 It’s so hard to like the characters ofc but you like relate to them。 And the story is fucking bizarre but the substantial part of it makes sense。 Crazy story litetally crazy and a crazy crazy ending。 Craziest book ever but very very good。

Me siento frustrada。

Just watch the movie

Stephen long

One of those where I watched the movie first so it didn’t have the same impact but I will say the movie was a very good adaptation of the book and I love the movie。 Either way recommend if you haven’t seen the movie (also highly recommend the movie as well)

Stephanie Fuentes

Intense。 Mind-blowing。 Toxic。 Unbelievable。

Now… that was some damage。 I started on the audiobook but I found the pacing unnatural。 It’s a beautiful and haunting story。

This book was truly a rollercoaster of emotional and logical thinking as I couldn't find my footing on who to side with, what to believe, or what would happen next。 Flynn did a spectacular job of telling the story of a woman's disappearance from the husband's perspective, and then the wife's perspective, molding an intriguing mystery。 I bounced from shock to fear to anger to empowerment within a matter of chapters, and am still left in awe by the writer's ability to play with my mind like that。 This book was truly a rollercoaster of emotional and logical thinking as I couldn't find my footing on who to side with, what to believe, or what would happen next。 Flynn did a spectacular job of telling the story of a woman's disappearance from the husband's perspective, and then the wife's perspective, molding an intriguing mystery。 I bounced from shock to fear to anger to empowerment within a matter of chapters, and am still left in awe by the writer's ability to play with my mind like that。 The cleverness and dedication littered in the pages were enough to make the story so much deeper than anticipated。I know that this book is well-known and many people either love it or hate it, but it is a must-read。 The storyline, the vocabulary, and the twists are just all too good to not be enjoyed。 Even as someone who knows the secrets to the book and how it ends, I'm sure I could read it again and uncover so many more little nuggets of information I missed before。 。。。more

Good plot twists throughout the book and Amy had a good character development, however the ending was extremely anticlimactic。
