a nicely done Ocean resource for adult。 Not a whole lot of detail here, but definitely some good information。

The latest Anatomy book is just as spellbinding as the others。 Pure enchantment is the way I can describe it。 As with her other books, the text is difficult to read for some readers due to the handwritten style and cursive。

Ocean Anatomy is the perfect mix of art and facts; ideal for a younger audience while still being engrossing for older readers。 You might go in thinking that you know the ocean pretty well, but Rothman has some surprises in store。 I especially appreciated her focus on the less colorful inhabitants of the seas, like sea slugs, sea grass, and barnacles。 Nearly every page held a new fact for me, and even if there wasn't a new fact, there was a beautiful drawing to admire。 I'll definitely be seeking Ocean Anatomy is the perfect mix of art and facts; ideal for a younger audience while still being engrossing for older readers。 You might go in thinking that you know the ocean pretty well, but Rothman has some surprises in store。 I especially appreciated her focus on the less colorful inhabitants of the seas, like sea slugs, sea grass, and barnacles。 Nearly every page held a new fact for me, and even if there wasn't a new fact, there was a beautiful drawing to admire。 I'll definitely be seeking out the other volumes in Rothman's Anatomy series。 。。。more

I really enjoy Rothman's approach to the "anatomy" of different parts of our world。 I think she gives you a good frame work to get started learning in an area, a basic understanding of the pieces you may encounter。 My only issue is that the font is occasionally small or stylized (or both!) in a way that can make it a little difficult to read。 Otherwise, a fantastic introduction and a wonderful jumping off point for more learning!! I really loved this book。 If you want to learn anything about the ocean from why the ocean is blue to the anatomy of a shark。 This book is perfect for getting info or just wanting to learn a little bit about our oceans。

Just amazing。 My son and I have learnt more from this book about ocean animals than from any other source so far。 He even gave a lecture to his teacher and classmates about crabs today。 Lol。 Love it!

Omg I learned about Brinicles! My life is complete! What a beautiful exploration of this vast unexplored universe, the sea。 At some points I would have wished for a bit more information to connect the dots and see the bigger picture, but I guess I have high standards now as I'm in the middle of a "children's books for exploring the world" run。 This is a wonderful contribution。 Omg I learned about Brinicles! This is an excellent primer on oceans — everything from how the tides and ocean currents work to what kinds of animals live in the deep。 Every page is beautiful illustrated。 It’s lovely for kids and adults alike! Highly recommended。 I loved it so much that I also grabbed Rothman’s Nature Anatomy, which I look forward to reading。

I've been on a huge marine kick lately。 I wanted easily accessible non-fiction about the ocean so I looked into kids books and this is one of the first that came up。 Everything is presently simply yet interestingly and it definitely held my attention, despite also being great for kids。 I learned a lot of neat things and look forward to reading Rothman's other books。 I took off one star because not all of the information is presently consistently; for instance, if ten types of one animal are list I've been on a huge marine kick lately。 I wanted easily accessible non-fiction about the ocean so I looked into kids books and this is one of the first that came up。 Everything is presently simply yet interestingly and it definitely held my attention, despite also being great for kids。 I learned a lot of neat things and look forward to reading Rothman's other books。 I took off one star because not all of the information is presently consistently; for instance, if ten types of one animal are listed only 8 have weight averages listed。 Some of these inconsistencies left me questions after reading。 。。。more

I came across Julia Rothman being stuck at home for months on end with a tween and a teen。 While relatives have sent me books and punch needle supplies, my husband puzzles, and my daughter paints and canvases, my son has been harder to figure out。 I mean, he could just play video games straight from March through whenever this pandemic ends, but that would not be wise。 We have tried models, books (which actually does work, but only for the required hour per day), sketchbooks, and then sigh and k I came across Julia Rothman being stuck at home for months on end with a tween and a teen。 While relatives have sent me books and punch needle supplies, my husband puzzles, and my daughter paints and canvases, my son has been harder to figure out。 I mean, he could just play video games straight from March through whenever this pandemic ends, but that would not be wise。 We have tried models, books (which actually does work, but only for the required hour per day), sketchbooks, and then sigh and kick him out the door to play by himself in the neighborhood, a sad figure with a net, on a bike, donning a mask。 (Geocaching and hiking have also worked, but not in a constant stream and not actually in our house。) When I saw Ocean Anatomy and Nature Anatomy pop up on one of my frequent romps through Amazon, I thought perhaps they could draw his attention in a way that only National Geographic Kids has done。 Then, when I realized Food Anatomy was a thing, too, I threw caution to the wind and spent my allowance on a copy。 And some nail polish。For sure, these are “extra” books。 For the most part, they fit in the category of coffee table books, or maybe even bathroom books。 They would be fun to leave out at a rental house。 The illustrations are great。 I appreciate both Rothman’s ability and her style。 How can I describe the style? Vintage, domestic cartoon? Ink and watercolor? They’re not surprising; technically I could do them, myself。 (Actually, now that I think about it, my illustration style is similar。) But they do have a nice, warm feel to them。 They’re meant to by cute and a little funny。 And coupled with all the bits and bobs of nature/food facts, these books are nice ones to have around。Would you sit down and read them (asks the woman who reads cookbooks cover to cover)? Most likely not, though I have been reading Food Anatomy in spurts, before bed。 I am using a bookmark。 Would you reference them? You definitely could, though you wouldn’t find a depth of information as much as a few things to fill in an information gap, such as Short Order Egg Lingo or Parts of a Whale。 In other words, these books aren’t comprehensive, they’re interesting and fun。 It occurs to me that these books would be great on home school shelves and also on children’s books shelves。 Not meant to be like Richard Scarry, they sort of are, anyhow。 I could really imagine a grown up snuggled up with a kid and turning the pages, chatting and learning together。You know what else they might be good for? As gifts for people who have everything (or at least everything they need)。 Well, anyway, if they have an interest in nature, marine biology, farms, or food。 Because the series, so far, (packaged before Ocean as The Julie Rothman Collection) is:Nature AnatomyOcean AnatomyFood AnatomyFarm AnatomyMore books by or illustrated by Rothman:Brick, Who Found Herself in Architecture (illustrator, picture book)Hello, NYCan I Eat That? Ocean Anatomy is the fourth in Julia Rothman's Anatomy series。 Sort of a cross between The Diary of an Edwardian Lady and a DK non-fiction book, I've enjoyed all but the one on food。 Although the illustrations are not breathtakingly detailed as in DEL or photographic like those in DK, they attract my attention and inspire my crude artistic endeavors。 I imagine the 12-year-old version of me pouring over this time and again, which is why I send them to my grands。 Ocean Anatomy is the fourth in Julia Rothman's Anatomy series。 Sort of a cross between The Diary of an Edwardian Lady and a DK non-fiction book, I've enjoyed all but the one on food。 Although the illustrations are not breathtakingly detailed as in DEL or photographic like those in DK, they attract my attention and inspire my crude artistic endeavors。 I imagine the 12-year-old version of me pouring over this time and again, which is why I send them to my grands。 。。。more

This was decently interesting - I shared bits with my almost 7 year old as I read and she enjoyed the information and was able to read most of it。 My biggest complaint is the fonts chosen - I'm unsure if it was just in the epub form and would be fine in a physical book, but I had a very hard time reading it。 I asked her about that font and she said it was pretty, but that she couldn't read it because she isn't great at decoding cursive-like fonts yet。 I'd like my child to be able to find informa This was decently interesting - I shared bits with my almost 7 year old as I read and she enjoyed the information and was able to read most of it。 My biggest complaint is the fonts chosen - I'm unsure if it was just in the epub form and would be fine in a physical book, but I had a very hard time reading it。 I asked her about that font and she said it was pretty, but that she couldn't read it because she isn't great at decoding cursive-like fonts yet。 I'd like my child to be able to find information and peruse the book at her leisure, as well as be read to, and that made it difficult。 I love the idea of something like this, and I would probably borrow it from the library, but I'm unsure if it's one we would choose to own。 。。。more
