It was fine, and I did enjoy Camicazi but it just didn’t grip me。

Audiobook Review These books are so well written and David Tennent has a wonderful ability to bring these stories to life!I really liked Kamikaze!

Such a good series! Super fun and adventurous with some laughs。 Didn't enjoy this particular book of the series as much as the first two。 Thought the Roman's were a little out of place in a Viking story。 Again listened to the audiobook, so good! I am really enjoying my time with these books, even if they are simplistic and a little repetitive, they remain great fun。

Another good entry into the series, and introduces Kamikaze, who I hope shows up in future books。 Dragonese doesn't add a whole lot to the overall story, and I felt that it was suprsingly short。 However there is some character growth in a lot of the side characters。 Hopefully this is just setting up for bigger things to come。 Another good entry into the series, and introduces Kamikaze, who I hope shows up in future books。 Dragonese doesn't add a whole lot to the overall story, and I felt that it was suprsingly short。 However there is some character growth in a lot of the side characters。 Hopefully this is just setting up for bigger things to come。 。。。more

I read this book out-loud to a child。 I really find these books interesting; based on how they are able to all tie together as well as keeping the plot moving forward in an exciting way。 This is my favorite book in the series so far。

This books are just great middle grade books, such a fun series!

This is another good instalment of How To Drain Your Dragon。 The book is made great by David Tennant’s audiobook narration。I am glad that we finally get a female character (Kamikaze) and I hope there are more to come。 It was also nice to meet other people (Romans and Bog Burglers)。 My favourite character by far is The Hopeful Puffin。 Best boat in the Viking navy。

Listened to half, then our borrow expired so I got the book to finish it out。 I did my best David Tennant impression and my son said I sounded just like him, lol。 There are pictures in the books! And different fonts for different languages! Having listened to the audiobooks for the first two in the series, I never realized that。 But I still prefer the audiobooks (read by David Tennant。) Still great family listens。

I find the sexism and fatphobia rather dated and off putting but I persevere for my son who loves the dragons。 Even he asked why it’s bad to be described as 。。。like a girl。。。 and he’s 7。 Get it together Cressida。

Kamikaze is my new favourite 😻

Meant for the younger set, but as an adult I found the entire "dragon" series highly enjoyable。 Funny, dramatic, great characters, and fun storylines。 Meant for the younger set, but as an adult I found the entire "dragon" series highly enjoyable。 Funny, dramatic, great characters, and fun storylines。 。。。more

I remember most of the How to Train Your Dragon series from the first time that I read it。 Unfortunately, I didn't actually remember this one。 Not a terrible thing as I ended up enjoying myself upon re-reading it。 This book introduces Camikaze, who ended up being one of my favorites as the series progressed。 Overall, it's a fun childish romp with Romans thrown in。It probably wasn't as memorable for me because they do spend a lot of the book locked up in a tower。 But overall, upon my reread, I de I remember most of the How to Train Your Dragon series from the first time that I read it。 Unfortunately, I didn't actually remember this one。 Not a terrible thing as I ended up enjoying myself upon re-reading it。 This book introduces Camikaze, who ended up being one of my favorites as the series progressed。 Overall, it's a fun childish romp with Romans thrown in。It probably wasn't as memorable for me because they do spend a lot of the book locked up in a tower。 But overall, upon my reread, I deem it still an acceptable children's book。 Not my favorite in the series but certainly not dull。 。。。more

The third book in the series is still fun, and the audiobook most excellently narrated by David Tennant。

2。5 stars-This book is the third in the How To Train Your Dragon book series。 I enjoyed this book, and liked the addition of the Bog-Burglars and Camicazi。 Of course, Hiccup and Fishlegs get trapped up in another adventure。 This time the two boys get kidnapped by the Romans, and Toothless is taken away from them。 They are thrown into a prison, which is where they meet new character, and rival Viking, Camicazi。 The three of them eventually join forces and create a plan to help them escape and sav 2。5 stars-This book is the third in the How To Train Your Dragon book series。 I enjoyed this book, and liked the addition of the Bog-Burglars and Camicazi。 Of course, Hiccup and Fishlegs get trapped up in another adventure。 This time the two boys get kidnapped by the Romans, and Toothless is taken away from them。 They are thrown into a prison, which is where they meet new character, and rival Viking, Camicazi。 The three of them eventually join forces and create a plan to help them escape and save Toothless。 -I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the other two, but I think this is because I am now beginning to get used to the structure of how these books are laid out:* the main characters get stuck in some sort of problem* they are trapped and have to make a plan * they eventually escape and have a showdown with the boss* they return home to celebrations * there’s a happy ending, but still a small cliffhanger that leads onto the next book This isn't a bad thing, but as an adult I'm more used to books that have a different structure each time。 For children, these books are perfect as they offer that comfortable expectation。 Kids become familiar with the way the story is laid out and so they are able to guess what will happen next。 It’s comfortable for them to read。 But as an adult, it feels repetitive。 My Wordpress review: https://loiereads。wordpress。com/2021/。。。 。。。more

3 stars。Honestly, the best thing about reading these books is listening to David Tennant read them。 He has so many voices for all the characters and makes it really enjoyable to get through。 I still like Toothless more in the movies than in the books but I do like the aspect that Hiccup can speak to dragons。 It's fun to read about what Hiccup gets into and I enjoy him more and more。 3 stars。Honestly, the best thing about reading these books is listening to David Tennant read them。 He has so many voices for all the characters and makes it really enjoyable to get through。 I still like Toothless more in the movies than in the books but I do like the aspect that Hiccup can speak to dragons。 It's fun to read about what Hiccup gets into and I enjoy him more and more。 。。。more

The formula is set at this point。 Hiccup is a loser, he can't get the hang of *insert new Viking skill*, oh no! here comes the inciting incident that his idiot clan will make worse, Hiccup saves the day because he's the only intelligent Viking in a 100 mile radius, the Vikings either totally ignore Hiccup's contributions or are too stupid to understand the nuance of the situation thereby explaining the return to the status quo next book。 l assume all HTTYD books will follow the same pattern。 Eit The formula is set at this point。 Hiccup is a loser, he can't get the hang of *insert new Viking skill*, oh no! here comes the inciting incident that his idiot clan will make worse, Hiccup saves the day because he's the only intelligent Viking in a 100 mile radius, the Vikings either totally ignore Hiccup's contributions or are too stupid to understand the nuance of the situation thereby explaining the return to the status quo next book。 l assume all HTTYD books will follow the same pattern。 Either way I honestly don't care all that much。 These books are fun, quick reads that I am almost guaranteed to enjoy - at least for now, I reserve the right to change my mind later。 Cressida Cowell is a good writer。 I always like seeing more expansion on the universe she's created。 It's a strong world, and I appreciate the lore we get each book。 Especially now that we're weaving in some actual historical stuff i。e。 in this book the villains are the Romans。 It's essentially an alternate universe historical fantasy series and I'm here for it。 The characters are alright。 I like Hiccup well enough, but I am getting rather annoyed on his behalf that he has to kowtow to overly aggressive, meathead nonsense from literally every single character outside of Fish Legs, sometimes, so much。 Viking society is so aggravating。 I mentioned in my review for the first book (I didn’t do one for the second but rest assured it followed the formula) that it was weird how removed women were from Viking society even if the primary demographic is boys。 The sheer depth of their absence made it particularly noticeable。 This book features a female character in a prominent role which rectified that issue。 Camicazi is the heir to the Bog Burglar tribe and is apparently where Astrid from the HTTYD movies character sprung from。 She’s a little spitfire for sure。 Annoying, but fun once the story developed a bit further。I was amused throughout。 I still like the series so far。 Basically, you get what you pay for。 。。。more

Recommended by my 8yo daughter。 I really liked it。 This series is a lot of fun, but I'm slightly surprised how suspenseful they are! Early in the book was a part where I really dreaded reading on, luckily everything and everyone turned out fine in the end。 Recommended by my 8yo daughter。 I really liked it。 This series is a lot of fun, but I'm slightly surprised how suspenseful they are!
