Summary

Do you know who's knocking at your door?

After a violent home invasion in the remote wilds of Glen Coe leaves a family of four dead, DCI Jack Logan and his team are brought in to lead the manhunt。

But, when one of the victims is revealed to be one half of legendary 1980s Glasgow-based comedy double act, ‘Neeps & Tatties’, Logan is forced to leave the Highlands and head back to his old stomping ground。

He may have spent his career dealing with the worst humanity has to offer, but to find out who killed Archie Tatties and his family, Logan will have to confront his most terrifying challenge yet - the seedy world of Scottish light entertainment。

An Isolated Incident is the eleventh book in JD Kirk’s internationally bestselling DCI Logan crime fiction series。 Perfect for fans of Chris Brookmyre, Stuart Macbride, and Alex Smith。

A well-crafted and worthy edition to this mystery series。

AmazingI love JD Kirk novels, they have everything, suspense, drama, amazing believable characters, and the humour, only a fellow Scot can fully appreciate, although my sasenach husband loves them too。 Long may you continue to write。 Thank you。x

Another excellent Jack Logan thrillerLove the Jack Logan series。 Each character has a distinct personality and quirky behavior that endears them to the reader。 Glad Bob Hoon has made his outlandish way back into the fray。

The 12th Perfect Read by J D KirkIf you are a fan of gritty Scottish crime stories, you would be wise to read everything written by J D Kirk。 The plots are well written with sub plots woven through each and every book of the series。 The camaraderie, banter and drama is often laugh out loud funny, as well as hard line in places。 You can lose yourself with DCI Logan and team。 This book is stand-alone super, but believe me when I say it's worth starting with book one。 AND unlike so many detective n The 12th Perfect Read by J D KirkIf you are a fan of gritty Scottish crime stories, you would be wise to read everything written by J D Kirk。 The plots are well written with sub plots woven through each and every book of the series。 The camaraderie, banter and drama is often laugh out loud funny, as well as hard line in places。 You can lose yourself with DCI Logan and team。 This book is stand-alone super, but believe me when I say it's worth starting with book one。 AND unlike so many detective novels these days, it has been proof read and edited properly。 Just brilliant。 。。。more

Loved rhe character developments in this book as well as the overall plot。 If I am being super picky then I think it needed a bit of an edit, it did wander and repeat a few times and while I didn't mind too much because I love the series I did end up skim reading chunks。 Loved rhe character developments in this book as well as the overall plot。 If I am being super picky then I think it needed a bit of an edit, it did wander and repeat a few times and while I didn't mind too much because I love the series I did end up skim reading chunks。 。。。more

Shades of Taggart, delving into the grim underbelly of old time gangs, the joy of ex Supt Hoon, job pull vs living a life and a twisty plot all add up to a satisfying penultimate ( joy - there is another tale on the horizon) tale。

Another great read from JD Kirk。 The team are in top form。 They all seem like familiar friends now。 I really do have to demind myself they're not real。 The Neeps and Tatties catchphrase began to grate but that was the only downside。 Another great read from JD Kirk。 The team are in top form。 They all seem like familiar friends now。 I really do have to demind myself they're not real。 The Neeps and Tatties catchphrase began to grate but that was the only downside。 。。。more

Utter tripe。 Dreadful characters in ridiculous settings that are unbelievable。 Hoon is beyond ridiculous with his foul mouth and the audio narration is frankly dreadful as the accents and tone make all players sound like cretins。 No sympathy or interest in the characters and much of the word count is filled up with dross。 How this writer gets so many good reviews is way beyond me! Logan is a buffoon so suspend your disbelief if you even get passed chapter 6。 I couldn’t and asked for a refund。 I Utter tripe。 Dreadful characters in ridiculous settings that are unbelievable。 Hoon is beyond ridiculous with his foul mouth and the audio narration is frankly dreadful as the accents and tone make all players sound like cretins。 No sympathy or interest in the characters and much of the word count is filled up with dross。 How this writer gets so many good reviews is way beyond me! Another great read from the JD Kirk stable。 The humour adds just the right lightness to the story without compromising the seriousness of the subject matter。 The plot of this book is good and it has the usual twists & turns that keep you guessing until the end。 How do a failed comedy duo, 4 murders, a missing baby, £250k in cash, a suicide, a Glasgow gangster & ex-DSup Hoon come together? You'll have to read it and see。 The ending to this one comes quickly and leaves at least one question unansw Another great read from the JD Kirk stable。 The humour adds just the right lightness to the story without compromising the seriousness of the subject matter。 The plot of this book is good and it has the usual twists & turns that keep you guessing until the end。 How do a failed comedy duo, 4 murders, a missing baby, £250k in cash, a suicide, a Glasgow gangster & ex-DSup Hoon come together? That, and the grammatical errors (does no-one proofread these days?), do not take away from a great book。 I have thoroughly enjoyed all 11 in the series do far and eagerly await no。 12。 。。。more

Twists and drama Good character development and follow on from previous books without repetition。 Lots of twists and drama in this story。 Too much unnecessary description of stereotypical gangsters, who have little to do with the plot。 I found myself skipping pages。

Another murderous adventure, with all the cast of favourites。 I do love Tyler & “ you alright boss”。 Didn’t guess the murderer this time well I never do。。。。Looking forward to the next Logan & team’s adventure

I have enjoyed the DCI Jack Logan series and always look forward to the next part of the story of Logan and his team。 However book #11 An Isolated Incident was the best yet。 This book exceeded my expectations。 It is well written, the main characters in the team are all interesting and likeable。 The added bonus that you rarely get in a gritty murder crime book is that in places it is laugh out loud funny! Really brilliant, already pre ordered book #12。 I have also ordered the Hoon book。 Due out i I have enjoyed the DCI Jack Logan series and always look forward to the next part of the story of Logan and his team。 However book #11 An Isolated Incident was the best yet。 This book exceeded my expectations。 It is well written, the main characters in the team are all interesting and likeable。 The added bonus that you rarely get in a gritty murder crime book is that in places it is laugh out loud funny! A ripping yarnIt's a good story, BUT, not Kirks best。 Still a lot of twists but would a copper whose made detective be as naive as DC Tyler comes across in this story! I don't know about Scotland but recruitment of police in Wales, and I think England, is quite demanding now but hey ho don't let me put you off I enjoyed the book。 A ripping yarnIt's a good story, BUT, not Kirks best。 Still a lot of twists but would a copper whose made detective be as naive as DC Tyler comes across in this story! The Logan series has become absolutely my favourite detective series - I love the characters and although there are now 11 books in the series, the stories are still keeping me hooked。You would expect that books about murders would not be funny but the banter and the way that the characters interact lead to some laugh out loud moments (Hoon being the funniest of them all)!I’m now waiting patiently for the next installment in August 🙂

I used this metaphor in another review, but I’m going to use it again – An Isolated Incident had me chortling and snorting like a farting pig – make what you will of that delightful imagery。 The beauty of Kirk’s work is partly in his dialogue – which is hilarious, appropriate and moves the plot along at a rate of knots whilst revealing so much about the characters – and partly in his characterisation- his team are so individual, each with their own wee idiosyncrasies and as the series progresses I used this metaphor in another review, but I’m going to use it again – An Isolated Incident had me chortling and snorting like a farting pig – make what you will of that delightful imagery。 The beauty of Kirk’s work is partly in his dialogue – which is hilarious, appropriate and moves the plot along at a rate of knots whilst revealing so much about the characters – and partly in his characterisation- his team are so individual, each with their own wee idiosyncrasies and as the series progresses, it really allows the reader to invest themselves in the story。The balance between gritty Tartan noir, humour and insight inot the characters is what makes this series work so well for me。 Through the course of the novel each character is given their own contribution and their own chance to shine and I love that。 Despite the darkness, there is hop and humanity and strong friendships which make An Isolated Incident a five * read。 JD Kirk’s DCI Jack Logan books are not for those opposed to swearing in crime fiction。 However, I think anyone who avoids them for that reason is doing themselves a huge disservice。 。。。more

As good as ever。 I love this series。 Solid mystery, interesting secondary characters and some nice character development。 The plot with Bob and the curmudgeonly support staff member was a delight。 And we finally got some forward motion regarding Logan's private life。 About time! Likewise, good to get the testicular storyline sorted。 I can't wait for book 12。 I hope we get more of Olivia's story, which is genuinely creepy。 As good as ever。 I love this series。 Solid mystery, interesting secondary characters and some nice character development。 The plot with Bob and the curmudgeonly support staff member was a delight。 And we finally got some forward motion regarding Logan's private life。 About time! Another very good book and yes, I'm totally addicted to this series。 Doesn't always feel like it's written by the same person, but I don't care。 It's fast, it's often funny, although the books at the start of the series were far funnier, and it's always a good read。 I wait with baited breath until the next one comes out。 Another very good book and yes, I'm totally addicted to this series。 Doesn't always feel like it's written by the same person, but I don't care。 It's fast, it's often funny, although the books at the start of the series were far funnier, and it's always a good read。 I wait with baited breath until the next one comes out。 。。。more

Logan, Almost on Top Form!An aborted honeymoon sees Sinead and Tyler ‘Boyband’ on the case of a murdered has-been comic and his family。 Along for the ride are the usual MIT suspects, Ben, Hamza, Dave, and an appearance by ex-DCI Hoon。 A twisty plot with plenty of action, humour and heart。 Addictive。
