A friend gave me this collection of poetry and prose。I don't remember reading any poetry for as long as ten years, so the intention was to see if it will spark an interest。The introduction got me very excited as it is very beautifully set: "I have always thought of memories as fragments, like coloured glass shards in a kaleidoscope。 It is the source of great beauty in our lives, yet the cause of such heartache。 It remains the bridge between our past and present - it gives weight and dimension A friend gave me this collection of poetry and prose。I don't remember reading any poetry for as long as ten years, so the intention was to see if it will spark an interest。The introduction got me very excited as it is very beautifully set: "I have always thought of memories as fragments, like coloured glass shards in a kaleidoscope。 It is the source of great beauty in our lives, yet the cause of such heartache。 It remains the bridge between our past and present - it gives weight and dimension to our very existence。" I really loved some of the poems, but just a few, to be honest。 Reading this felt like pearling (pearl hunting)。 I was a bit overwhelmed by the rest as they stroke me as too sentimental and probably a bit too teen-oriented, and maybe my time has passed for this already。 That's one of my favourites: Her Words "Love a girl who writes, and live her many lives; You have yet to find her, beneath her words of guise。 Kiss her blue inked fingers, forgive the pens they marked。 The stain of your lips upon her, the one she can't discard。 Forget her tattered memories, or the pages others took; You are her ever-after, the hero of her book。" I'm happy I came across this book as now I know that I want to explore and read more in the poetry area。 。。。more

Actual rating: 4。5I thoroughly enjoyed this! I had zero expectations for it and just wanted to try out Lang Leav's work (as well as for a readathon prompt), and I wasn't disappointed! While I couldn't relate to some of the poems, others were so hard-hitting。 Leav's whimsical writing scratched my itching for poetry and this is definitely not the last I'll read of hers。 Don't be turned away by the Lang Leav jokes! Corny rant of teenage love。 I particularly enjoy poetry but this book is just terrible。 Would not recommend to friends and people I like。

I don't think I'm ready to give this book a rating because I have not experienced majority of what Leav writes about。 Poetry is where you find echoes of your past and experiences in the words of another。 Perhaps you read them once and don't think much of it。 Then years later you pick it up again and find all the meaning you missed the first time and suddenly they're not just words on a page。 They're a warm hug, a nod of understanding and acknowledgement, a hand held out in empathy。 I believe wha I don't think I'm ready to give this book a rating because I have not experienced majority of what Leav writes about。 Poetry is where you find echoes of your past and experiences in the words of another。 Perhaps you read them once and don't think much of it。 Then years later you pick it up again and find all the meaning you missed the first time and suddenly they're not just words on a page。 They're a warm hug, a nod of understanding and acknowledgement, a hand held out in empathy。 I believe what you feel about this book really depends on your own experiences and as mine are currently lacking I cannot rate this book。 Excited to see how I feel about this a decade from now。 。。。more

I didn't realize it at the time, but this was a combo of some new poems along with the first book I'd read of hers (Love and Misadventure)。 Though there were some pieces I liked very much; I rated it the same as the first book。 I didn't realize it at the time, but this was a combo of some new poems along with the first book I'd read of hers (Love and Misadventure)。 Though there were some pieces I liked very much; I rated it the same as the first book。 。。。more

I don’t read a lot of poetry so I don’t know how to rate it; so I’m giving this a 4-5 I think。 Overall, it mainly was about love, heartbreak, and all that comes with it。 The nice thing about literature is that you can interpret it just as you like, in a different manner than another person would。 And you can even draw from personal experience and friendships/relationships! I didn’t really “relate” to most of the stuff, but the ones I did really felt like it was written it for me。 As for the rest I don’t read a lot of poetry so I don’t know how to rate it; so I’m giving this a 4-5 I think。 Overall, it mainly was about love, heartbreak, and all that comes with it。 The nice thing about literature is that you can interpret it just as you like, in a different manner than another person would。 And you can even draw from personal experience and friendships/relationships! I didn’t really “relate” to most of the stuff, but the ones I did really felt like it was written it for me。 As for the rest, I would imagined they were a story, a very very short one, and I would imagined the people she talks about and their emotions (which she expressed really well); just like a novel。 I felt the pain that was in the words between the pages; the way she wrote and the way they were delivered really stood out for me。 I really enjoyed this and in fact devoured it in two days。 I kept thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it and looking for any chance to continue reading。 I even go the e-book version of it so I can read it in the car and before going to bed。 I sent some of the poems to a few of my friends (who don’t usually read books) and they immediately told me they are going to borrow it as soon as I finish。 That must mean something。 Anyways, to sum this up, I would recommend it to anyone like me who is new to poetry。 I also really liked it and will definitely check out more of Lang Leav’s poetry collections! 。。。more

Lang Leav is a beautiful writer。This poetry book is full of heartfelt and beautifully written pieces and feels like the insides of your brains- rather jumbled-up and scattered, unconnected to each other yet are。 This is not a book you would read all at once as each piece will speak to you from different places and times。

I've read this before and forgot to add to my Goodreads。 I only realized this on page 70😂😂I guess it was too good to remember or something I have no idea。 I've read this before and forgot to add to my Goodreads。 I only realized this on page 70😂😂I guess it was too good to remember or something I have no idea。 。。。more

It’s the over romanticisation of toxic romantic affairs I can’t stand。 I can’t believe there was a time I enjoyed Lang Leav’s supposed poetry。 I am just so ashamed of myself。 Cringeworthy。 In my defence, I was heartbroken at the time。 This poetry, I don’t recommend , heartbreak? Strongly recommend。 It builds character。 Nothing beats the clarity that comes after a heartbreak。 In other unrelated news, Lang Leav would make it as a Hausa novelist ; she has just the right amount of sap required。

I will use Lang Leav’s own words to summarize “Memories”: “I will always look upon this time—not without a sense of melancholy”。 Melancholy’s blue tones fill the pages of this book。 My personal favorite is the following poem:The NightIt’s been a while since words have found me,the time between—you’ll come and go;I’d grown to love the sun around me,I’ve been a stranger to my woe。It’s been so long since there was silence, all around me, your voice had rung;like a bird who sings to greet the morning I will use Lang Leav’s own words to summarize “Memories”: “I will always look upon this time—not without a sense of melancholy”。 Melancholy’s blue tones fill the pages of this book。 My personal favorite is the following poem:The NightIt’s been a while since words have found me,the time between—you’ll come and go;I’d grown to love the sun around me,I’ve been a stranger to my woe。It’s been so long since there was silence, all around me, your voice had rung;like a bird who sings to greet the morning,to tell you that the day has come。It’s been some time since I’ve felt lonely, like a book that is no longer read;the darkness lingers on without you,it fills my empty heart with dread。It seems an age ago, since you have left me,time has filled me, with words unsaid;as the sadness seeps into me slowly, and I am left to face the night ahead。I believe that the intensity of her emotions and thoughts in this poem can be deeply felt。 That’s probably what draws me to it。 。。。more

I picked this up on a whim at my local library, some of these poems resonated with me although majority have slipped over my head。 Perhaps if I'm at the age were I've more experience, I'll give this another read。 I picked this up on a whim at my local library, some of these poems resonated with me although majority have slipped over my head。 Perhaps if I'm at the age were I've more experience, I'll give this another read。 。。。more

This poetry book is not bad but it was just wasn't something i enjoy。 There are a few poems that but it was just little。 Maybe love poems are just not my thing。 This poetry book is not bad but it was just wasn't something i enjoy。 There are a few poems that but it was just little。 Maybe love poems are just not my thing。 。。。more

Quick review:I really didn’t connect with this。 I understand that really obscure, lyrical and complex poetry results in an emerging demand for poetry which is quite straight forward。 This was exactly that。 I personally enjoy poetry with beautiful language, and with a more diverse set of themes。
