The stories are a bit ridiculous and whimsical, but they are good for learning Spanish at the A2/B1 level (including sentence structure, grammar and new words) and the questions at the end of each chapter help with understanding the material。 There is also quite a useful vocabulary list at the back, and new words are highlighted in bold throughout the book to aid learning。

Tough book to rate。 I liked the repetition of vocabulary。 However the stories were too unbelievable。 For instance in la mujer invisible, if Laura took the car why were they searching for her at the picnic spot。

I love the whole idea behind this book! This book provides you with intriguing short stories that are three chapters each。 Each chapter is written in Spanish and contains some bolder vocabulary words, a brief summary (also written in Spanish), a glossary, and five multiple choice comprehension questions (you guess it, also written in Spanish)。 The goal is that you stop translating word for word meaning and learn to read holistically, grasping the message of what you are reading。 I throughly enjo I love the whole idea behind this book! The stories weren’t great but the book is a good exposure to Spanish and the quizzes are great for checking for understanding。

The stories are easiest enough for me at my level (low intermediate, B1), and I have been picking up words from them。 None are literary masterpieces, but they are designed to help you learn Spanish。The author is not a native speaker, but hopefully he has editors who are native speakers。 I read (more like attempted to read) the Russian version, Short Stories in Russian, during a brief time when I was trying to learn Russian。 There are version for about 8 different languages, with the stories bein The stories are easiest enough for me at my level (low intermediate, B1), and I have been picking up words from them。 None are literary masterpieces, but they are designed to help you learn Spanish。The author is not a native speaker, but hopefully he has editors who are native speakers。 I read (more like attempted to read) the Russian version, Short Stories in Russian, during a brief time when I was trying to learn Russian。 There are version for about 8 different languages, with the stories being mostly the same plot but in different languages。 。。。more

I really enjoyed the short stories。 I'm a Spanish major in college, so it helps to read something enjoyable in Spanish during winter break。 I also listened to the audio book while reading。 However, I noticed some minor errors in the writing while I was listening and reading, but they don't distract from the plot。 I highly recommend this book for people who at least have taken 2 semesters of Spanish。 I also read the French version of this book。 Thank you Olly Richards! Extremely helpful, and actually entertaining。 These stories are orders of magnitude better than the repetitive boredom of certain other 'Spanish for beginners' stories out there。 Highly recommended。 Extremely helpful, and actually entertaining。 These stories are orders of magnitude better than the repetitive boredom of certain other 'Spanish for beginners' stories out there。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

I don't think these stories are for absolute beginners, but despite not being familiar with all the tenses used, I was still able to understand, most of the time, what was going on。 There could have been a lot more words and phrases in the glossary, but I was able to use online translation tools to fill in the gaps。 The stories are bit crazy and far fetched at times, but I enjoyed them despite this and they kept me reading until the end。 I'm giving it 4 stars, because I think I learned a lot and I don't think these stories are for absolute beginners, but despite not being familiar with all the tenses used, I was still able to understand, most of the time, what was going on。 There could have been a lot more words and phrases in the glossary, but I was able to use online translation tools to fill in the gaps。 The stories are bit crazy and far fetched at times, but I enjoyed them despite this and they kept me reading until the end。 I'm giving it 4 stars, because I think I learned a lot and I felt a great sense of achievement at having understood most of the stories。 。。。more

This book is good。 But this book is not suitable for complete beginners。 The first story is a quite easy read but once you go forward you’ll need the higher lever of Spanish。 I would even risk saying lower intermediate。 I’d recommend this book to everyone who understand Spanish grammar on the A2 level which is already beginner plus。 Make sure you are familiar with past tenses once you reach out for this book。 I didn’t know anything about the past when I started and it was quite a struggle for me This book is good。 But this book is not suitable for complete beginners。 The first story is a quite easy read but once you go forward you’ll need the higher lever of Spanish。 I would even risk saying lower intermediate。 I’d recommend this book to everyone who understand Spanish grammar on the A2 level which is already beginner plus。 Make sure you are familiar with past tenses once you reach out for this book。 I didn’t know anything about the past when I started and it was quite a struggle for me in the beginning。 Once I’ve learned more and more grammar it became a very easy read which I enjoyed a lot。 。。。more

Really rate this book。 I am just completing an A1 Spanish beginners class and the language in this book is simple enough that I can read and get the gist of the story by relying on my knowledge and the context of the story, but also has enough vocabulary that I don’t know to ensure I am learning new words and phrases。 Definitely follow the authors suggestion of reading the chapter the first time without looking up the vocabulary, I think you’ll surprise yourself with how much you can work out fo Really rate this book。 I am just completing an A1 Spanish beginners class and the language in this book is simple enough that I can read and get the gist of the story by relying on my knowledge and the context of the story, but also has enough vocabulary that I don’t know to ensure I am learning new words and phrases。 Definitely follow the authors suggestion of reading the chapter the first time without looking up the vocabulary, I think you’ll surprise yourself with how much you can work out for yourself! This booklet has been a really great help testing my knowledge of Spanish and I could understand almost everything without help。 For some stories, I wish they had been a bit longer or done more world-building, but then, these ARE short stories, so。。。 Anyways, I have already gotten the second book for Intermediate Learners。 I can hardly wait to see how that turns out, and if the ease of reading holds up。

As many have said this is great as a language learning tool, which is what I expected it to be, and therefore I wasn't personally disappointed with the content as I knew it was more geared towards language understanding than gripping tales。 The stories are definitely odd at times, but they are engaging enough for you to actually finish them! I actually enjoyed the sense of accomplishment I got from reading through this, and look forward to the next one。 As many have said this is great as a language learning tool, which is what I expected it to be, and therefore I wasn't personally disappointed with the content as I knew it was more geared towards language understanding than gripping tales。 The stories are definitely odd at times, but they are engaging enough for you to actually finish them! This is a great tool for taking your beginner Spanish to the next level。 I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment when I finished each chapter and got the questions right! The big downside is the stories are silly and not as enjoyable as I'd hoped。 They definitely feel like they're out of a kid's early reader, and this feels like a text book。 I was looking for a more casual reading experience that didn't necessarily feel like I was supposed to be learning as I read。 I'll certainly keep this o This is a great tool for taking your beginner Spanish to the next level。 I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment when I finished each chapter and got the questions right! It is a great book to learn Spanish language, it contains several stories each story divided in 3 chapters to make it easy to understand it。 Also at the end of each chapter there is a summary to see if you understood the overall idea of the chapter (the main idea of this chapter of the story 💡)。 In addition, the chapter contains a list of few vocabulary that could help you understand what those Spanish words mean in English。 Saying that I need to mention an important matter you need to have a go It is a great book to learn Spanish language, it contains several stories each story divided in 3 chapters to make it easy to understand it。 Also at the end of each chapter there is a summary to see if you understood the overall idea of the chapter (the main idea of this chapter of the story 💡)。 In addition, the chapter contains a list of few vocabulary that could help you understand what those Spanish words mean in English。 Saying that I need to mention an important matter you need to have a good base of Spanish vocabularies to start with this book。 In my situation I have started learning Spanish language using app called duolingo for more than a year now, it has helped me a lot in understanding most of the stories in this book。 To be frank I still used translator to translate some words even though the majority of these words I learned before but still not everything you can remember until you practice it in a daily base。 In this book you would be tested after each chapter with a multiple choice questions in order to know how good you understood the story。By the way I liked all the stories in this book, they are simple and nice stories。 It is a great way to start reading in Spanish language。 。。。more

Yes they are easy to understand and practise your Spanish but god I found the stories hard to get through simply because for me they were awful and a little ridiculous in places。 There were also a couple of errors in there which won’t really help your learning。

This is quite useful if you don't pay too much attention to the actual content of the stories - by this I mean you should use it as a learning tool, rather than expecting an engrossing story。 These are for beginners, so it's to be expected that they're not exactly going to be very in depth。 At the beginning of the book there's a strong emphasis on how reading and finishing each story is more important than understanding every word and to not stop to look up words, I found this really helpful and This is quite useful if you don't pay too much attention to the actual content of the stories - by this I mean you should use it as a learning tool, rather than expecting an engrossing story。 These are for beginners, so it's to be expected that they're not exactly going to be very in depth。 At the beginning of the book there's a strong emphasis on how reading and finishing each story is more important than understanding every word and to not stop to look up words, I found this really helpful and encouraging because I definitely am the kind of person who would have made the mistake of looking up what I didn't understand and getting frustrated and I'm really pleased that this method of powering through helps and that I understood a lot more than I expected to。 My only issue, as another reviewer pointed out is that the book does contain some words that are used in South American Spanish speaking countries rather than what is used in Spain。 。。。more
